Hi everyone, as a regular in the "bike travel" section, I’m reaching out for some info since I’m planning to come to Montreal at the end of September 2026 for the Road Cycling World Championships. If I get the time off and manage to gather the details, I’ll arrive on Wednesday the 23rd and leave on Tuesday the 29th. Traveling solo with just my backpack, I need answers to: 1°) Do you know of any youth hostels (or similar) within walking distance (less than 3 km) of the finish circuit on Mount Royal? 2°) What’s the best way to get to this accommodation from the airport—metro, bus, etc.?

I’m just starting my research and counting on you all for any tips. My goal is to watch the road races and explore Montreal afterward—restaurants, bars, and more.

Looking forward to your replies, cheers.

Hi! For accommodation, consider a hotel near Berri-Uqam or on Sainte-Catherine—there are plenty there. For getting to the city center, there’s the 747 bus, which ends at the Berri-Uqam bus terminal.

hi, The route ''loops'' through Mount Royal and finishes with a sprint on Avenue du Parc. Personally, I’d recommend staying in Côte-des-Neiges, for example here: Accommodation | Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal

From the airport, as Mathews mentioned, you’ve got the 747 bus (the ticket lets you use public transit—metro and buses—unlimited for 24 hours after validation) (747 YUL Montréal-Trudeau Airport: routes, schedules, and ticket purchases | Société de transport de Montréal).

have a great trip prep

Thanks Jean-Yves and Mathews for your feedback. I can see things a bit more clearly now. Just need to finalize everything and book my flight ticket. Vacation confirmation at the beginning of January. Cheers.😎

Hi there! You seem to know a lot about the event. By any chance, did you know there’s also a competition near Quebec City? That could make your flight ticket more worthwhile if you attend both races. For accommodation in Montreal, you could save some money by finding a place near a metro station. It’s easy to get to the race venues from the Mont-Royal Metro station (plus a little walking 😊). Anyway, what are your plans for the rest of your time? Up for some sightseeing? Good food? Cheers

Hi Jean, you're right—I'm really interested in the 2026 World Championships and I know your GP in Quebec. After three complicated years with work, I’m making up for it now and taking the chance to enjoy things a bit more. I’ll only be coming for the championships, and after the events, my goal is to explore the city. Cheers.

Awesome, I hope the weather will be favorable for you, just like in recent years. Also, if you're interested in learning more about Quebec's bike paths, I suggest checking out the YouTube videos by "Gab et Maia backpacking." The guy loves riding Quebec's bike paths, especially between Gatineau and Montreal. To get used to the Quebec accent, I recommend following "Charles en vélo." He's an extraordinary adventurer. He should be in France soon, if he isn't already. Good luck with your prep! 👍👋

Hi everyone, my flight ticket is booked and I’ll arrive at YUL on Wednesday, 09/23 around 3:00 PM and leave again on Tuesday the 29th around 5:00 PM. It might seem short, but my main goal is to see the world championships. After the events, I plan to wander through the different neighborhoods and have a great time at restaurants and/or bars. I’ll be staying on Saint Hubert Street. Once again, thanks for all the tips, and as I mentioned earlier, I also travel by bike: this summer, I’m taking a 7-day trip to the Belgian Ardennes 😎

hi, I just realized I was thinking of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, which isn’t quite the same as the Cycling World Championships!! The GP happens every year, whereas the Worlds—if I’m not mistaken—are happening in Montreal for the one and only time!! But I just checked the Worlds website, and I see that all the races will go around Mont Royal (same route as the GP), so you’ll have plenty of spots to watch the races!! If you need any extra info for your trip, don’t hesitate—the forum’s here for that!
