Hi there,
we’re heading to Colombia from mid-January to mid-February 2025 and we’d love to visit the Tierradentro and San Agustín sites in February. We’ve heard these sites are closed on Tuesdays during the low season—but when exactly *is* the low season? We need to plan our bus routes.
Thanks in advance!
Anne
Hi there, I think the low season starts in February, actually... For reliable information, I suggest you contact François van Malderen in San Agustín. You can find him on Facebook. I also recommend, to complete your view of Colombia, the recent beautiful book Colombie, Magia de la Vida.
Safe travels! :)

Hi Philippe, Thanks for your reply. Some places mention early March too. We’ll make sure not to be there on a Tuesday to be safe. Best regards, Anne

Hi,
Actually, the tourist low season in Colombia starts on the first day of the school year.
The school calendar is inverted compared to the French one.
Basically, the long school holidays are in December-January.
I looked into this a few years ago.
If I remember correctly, the start of the school year was in the last week of January.
Best regards,

Hi Danièle,
Thanks for your reply.
We’re going to add a third day to our stay in San Agustín to be sure.
Once we’re there, I’ll try to pin down the exact dates more precisely and keep the forum posted.
We should be there in the second week of February.
Anne
Hi Danièle,
