Originally planned for an official opening on July 3, 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which has already been partially open since autumn 2024, has had its official inauguration pushed back to the end of the year. This decision, made due to growing tensions in the Middle East, was motivated by the desire to give the event the international dimension it deserves.

Spanning 500,000 m²—larger than the Louvre (which has 360,000 m² of total space, including 73,000 m² of exhibition areas)—the museum will house up to 100,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of Tutankhamun and a monumental statue of Ramses II. It can already welcome 4,000 visitors per day with limited access, with a future capacity estimated at 13,000 per day once fully open.

Hello everyone, After all this time with the official opening being postponed, we're used to it by now 😉. With Egypt, it's always like this—hopefully, when the museum finally opens without restrictions, the AC will work properly 😉. Do you know if there will be a special ticket for the Tutankhamun wing, like that rumor we’ve heard before but was never confirmed? Have a great day, Thoutmosis

The date has been pushed back due to a conflict and security measures, so this isn’t a "whim" or other delays—it’s genuinely about safety for everyone. Who’s this "we’re used to it" referring to? Have you traveled recently? Visitors can still access the museum in the sections already open for the official opening—just wait for updates.

Hello everyone, The "on" is to say that in Egypt, things always work like this—nothing ever opens on a clearly defined date, there are always delays. As for security, there’s no problem; it’s the same as in any other country. Remember, zero risk doesn’t exist, even in our own countries, right??? Have a great weekend! 😉 Thoutmosis

Regarding the delay in the museum's opening, aren't you aware of what's happening with ISRAEL? Palestine? Are you living on Mars? It's clear you haven't been to Egypt in years or you don't read the news, so yes, the date is being pushed back for security reasons.

Hello everyone, March would be a great idea—there are way fewer crowds then 😉. As for safety, I’ve never had any issues. Even during those so-called "red periods" warned about by foreign affairs, I’ve never encountered anything, despite often traveling during peak terrorism alerts. We usually visit places where the "average" tourist doesn’t go, and still, nothing’s ever happened—maybe just luck?? Whether there’s conflict in Gaza or not, it’s sad, but that won’t stop people from traveling. Have a great day! Thoutmosis

Are you one of those pests? Just asking, don’t take offense—just sending it right back at ya. Tell me, when was your last trip to Egypt? Seems like you’re not up to date on what’s happening over there. Mocking the safety of all Egyptian tourists, I can only say your comments are disrespectful toward those people and the advice and decisions this government has made for everyone’s safety. Food for thought. And just a heads-up to everyone: safety first, which is why the official opening of the museum—even though it’s already partially open—has been postponed.

With all due respect, you’re getting a bit worked up. The opening has been postponed multiple times, and the other delays weren’t for safety reasons.

It’s an ambitious and expensive project—they were way too optimistic about their ability to meet deadlines.

So yeah, we’re starting to get used to these postponements since there have been so many.

The pharaohs waited thousands of years; they’re not the ones who’ll complain...

Hello, the touchy subject is that people are downplaying the reasons for this latest opening date postponement. Everyone's safety is paramount. Then, insulting tourists by calling them parasites? Apparently, some people think they’d be Pharaoh instead of the Pharaoh... Have a good day

If they were so concerned about security, there wouldn’t be many museums left open, including in Paris. I don’t get why Touthmosis used the word "parasites." Maybe because sometimes the number of tourists is just overwhelming?

Comparisons aren't always fair, and Paris isn’t exactly close to Israel either... Not to mention it’s not even in Europe. Too many tourists? Should we introduce a special law for tourists—a quota to keep the freeloaders (tourists) in check? 🤔
