Tout est dit dans le titre : je pars une petite dizaine de jours à Pâques en Egypte. Nous serons quatre adultes. Nous avons déjà une expérience fort brève de la mer Rouge, à savoir quelques jours dans un horrible hôtel à Hurghada, côte trop bétonnée, rien à voir dans la mer si l'on ne loue pas les services d'un bateau à la journée pour s'éloigner (ce que nous avons fait, et c'était exceptionnel, coraux et poissons époustouflants)
Ce que je cherche : un hôtel sympa (et si possible bon marché, le confort et le standing nous importent peu) qui soit au bord de la mer, dans un coin où l'on peut faire du masque depuis la plage et voir de belles choses sans avoir à prendre tous les jours un bateau à touristes. Si possible aussi situé non loin du Sinaï, j'aimerais pouvoir faire des excursions vers la Jordanie.
Si vous avez des lieux à me conseiller, que vous avez aimés, voire des hotel/pensions précis, je suis preneuse de toute suggestion !
J'ajoute que j'aimerais des témoignages assez récents, apparemment la situation évolue très vite dans ces stations balnéaires (mais je ne cherche pas forcément une station...) et Sharm El Sheikh, plébiscitée il y a peu comme "l'incontournable nouvelle petite ville pour faire de la plongée", semble s'être salement bétonnée à vitesse grand V (pour autant peut-être est-ce encore possible de voir des trucs chouettes depuis certaines plages ?)
A Sharm, éviter les hôtels dans Naama Bay car il n'y a pas de corail. Ceux qui sont situés directement au bord de la mer ont un accès avec ponton, et là le spectacle est génial.
Je connais les hôtels suivants : Royal Grand Sharm (luxe et recommandable en tous pts, sauf le prix), Grand Azur et Conrad. Tous avec un magnifique récif.
J'ai regardé, rapidement, et je crains que les hôtels que tu cites débordent un peu mon budget.. En tous cas tu me confirmes que Sharm el sheikh vaut vraiment encore le coup pour le snorkeling depuis la côte ? Et as-tu été à Ras-Mohammed ?
Sinon connais-tu Dahab ? j'ai cru comprendre que c'était beaucoup plus sympa que Charm, en tous cas pas encore aussi touristique, et dans mes moyens... Simplement je ne sais pas si les possibilités depuis la côte sont aussi fantastiques qu'ailleurs..
Toute la côte entre les îles du Tiran et Ras Mohamed est magnifique pour le snorkeling. J'y ai déjà plongé souvent, mais pas d'hôtel à Ras Mohamed car c'est un parc national. Pour le snorkeling, ça ne vaut pas le coup de faire l'excursion jusque là (cher et pas mieux que devant les hôtels de la côte). J'étais cet été au Royal Grand Sharm et les bateaux amenaient les touristes faire du snorkeling devant cet hôtel. On y a vu des raies manta et un requin baleine l'année précédente (mais en été seulement).
Je ne connais pas Dahab, mais j'ai entendu dire par des plongeurs que c'est moins touristique que Sharm.
Je suis allée en décembre dernier au FANARA à Sharm El Sheikh, un club Eldorador de Jet Tours, j'ai un ami qui y séjourne 3 fois par an pour le snorkeling, et il vient juste d'en revenir
et rien n'a changé.

Hotel à prix abordable en ALL INCLUSIVE surtout si on y va en dehors des périodes scolaires
Choix de chambres avec supplément vue sur mer un peu building , la partie résidence est très bien, très conviviale
Piscines supers, très petite plage ou plutot crique (sable gravier) en contre bas par accès soit par escalier ou rampe bien aménagée. La première fois ça parait long mais on s'y fait très vite. A déconseiller aux personnes avec enfants
L'avantage de la plage avec votre masque et tuba vous partez faire du snorkeling à gogo, la barrière de corail est juste devant vous un vrai régal
Si vous souhaitez de la plongée avec bouteille, les bateaux sont juste devant vous mais là il faut payer
Qu'entends-tu par "prix abordables", as-tu un ordre d'idée ?
c'est pas évident à lire sur internet, mais ça me semble très coûteux. Peut-être est-ce moins cher si on prend un pac tout compris, mais en passant par qui ?
Sinon, connaissez-vous autre chose que des hôtels***** qui donnent sur cette barrière de corail?

En ce qui me concerne , le Fanara par Jet Tours, en décembre 2008 dix jours avant le départ je l'ai eu à 675 euros au lieu de 830 euros or période scolaire
675 euros, 5h de vol, séjour en all inclusive rapport qualité prix pour soleil, bien logée et plongée je n'avais pas trouvé mieux
Idem pour pour cette année mon agence m'a conseillé d'attendre le 20 novembre pour avoir les promos du 5 décembre
Pour les autres hôtels de même configuration les prix étaient sensiblement les mêmes
Ils se ressemblent tous, pour ceux que j'ai vu, vraiment en bordure de mer: plage artificielles en contre bas avec accès direct.
Pour décembre je vais tenter Taba avec excursion en jordanie. Si vous le souhaitez tenez moi au courant; vous aurez peut être un bon hôtel à me conseiller

on a été avec les enfants il y a quelques annees a Sharm El cheikh et on en garde un excellent souvenir. Quand on avait de l'eau mi mollets on voyait deja des poissons perroquets passer entre nos pieds. Il y a pas mal de bateaux qui proposent des excursions d une journee vers Ras el... pour faire du snorkeling et la, on peut faire du snorkeling le long de magnifiques tombants pleins de poissons. Il suffit de reserver la veille parmi les multiples offres.
On avait aussi ete a Dahab et c'est vrai que c'etait beaucoup plus sauvage, moins urbanisé et bling bling que Sharm, en revanche, la cote etait un peu plus difficile d'acces (mais pour 4 adultes c'est sans probleme) et il y avait beaucoup de poissons.
Vous devriez bien vous amusez...

Je confirme pour les hotels de naama bay et certains à sharm où l'on accède le plus souvent à la mer par un ponton plus ou moins long, pas le top!!!!!!!
Nous nous partons au beach albatros à Hadaba (sharm) accès direct à la mer, barrière de corail superbe (pour combien de temps????) ça on en sait rien, car depuis 2004 on voit déja les dégradations dues aux touristes et aussi aux vacanciers égyptiens qui pour certains ne respectent pas leur patrimoine!!!!!
L'hotel est situé sur les hauteurs et l'accès à la plage se fait par un ascenseur panoramique, la plage fait 1200 m environ.
Il est en formule all-in, les prix sont corrects, tout dépend des périodes et surtout des villes de départ.
Je confirme également que dès qu'on met un pied dans l'eau on voit des tas de poissons, et en étant motivé pour aller nager à 6H le matin, on a la chance de nager avec une raie léopard, c'est du pur bonheur......

de plus la plage, il suffit de longer sur la gauche un bout et il y a en effet de superbe corail ...
Dahab...c'est magnifique, bcp plus sauvage et sauvegardé...
MAIS car il y a un mais... c'est moins protégé que sharm au niveau "météo"..
J'entends par là qu'il y a + de vent, la mer est souvent plus agitée avec des courants et il me semble que c'est pas toujours ouvert toute l'année...
cependant si c'est pour être en dehors des hordes de touristes, c'est bcp moins fréquenté...

Vous avez TABA au bord de la mer rouge, c'est une bande de terre entre mer et montagne, l'intérêt est sa proximité avec le mont Sinaî, la possibilité d'aller à Pétra en Jordanie et à Jérusalem. pour le reste, c'est une zone hôtelière, hôtels 5étoiles locales, nous avons séjournéen couple à l'Intercontinental, bon rapport qualité / prix en all inclusive.
Les fonds marins sont très beauxet accèssble en palmant un peu car les bateaux de plongeurssont très près de la côte, j'y ai vu des poissons magnifiques, des tortues , certains hôtels ont des pontons qui donne un accès direct derrière la barrière de corail.
Tous les pontons sont accessibles à tout le monde, il faut compter avec une clientèle russe un peu envahissante mais l'hôtel est assez grand pour ne pas se gêner et il n'était pas plein, nous y étions en début de mois.
une journée en all inclusive coute 37 euros / personne, nous avons passé 15 jours entre plongée et excursions dans la région, nous étions contents de nos vacances

Peut-être que la météo est meilleure plus au nord, vers Nuweiba, voire Taba ? C'est vrai que cela m'intéresserait aussi, vu que je compte bien faire une ou plusieurs excursions en Jordanie.
En tous cas, si vous avez des conseils pour des hotels sur la cote, avec accès à la mer (et aux coraux !) et qui soient bon marché, je suis toujours preneuse !
C'est peut être un peu tard mais je confirme pour Dahab, beaucoup moins le piège à touriste que Sharm. Ici vous trouverez des hôtels pas trop cher, et une ambiance vraiment sympa. Les gens sont vraiment agréable et si, bien sûre, ils essaye de vous vendre des choses, ils ne sont pas trop insistant. Quand au snorkling, il suffit de sortir de votre hôtel, de faire quelques pas sur la plage, et vous verrez des poissons de toutes les couleurs!
Je vous conseil notamment le Bedouin Lodge Hôtel, un peu à l'écart des rues commerçantes (mais à seulement 5 minutes à pied). Vous y serez accueilli comme un ami par une charmante famille bédouine. Les chambres sont agréables et pas trop cher. Ils proposent aussi des cours de plongée en petit groupe, loin de la foule de Sharm. Vous pourrez aussi partir en safaris avec des bédouins qui vous ferons découvrir ce magnifique désert du Sinaï qu'ils connaissent si bien...
J'ai passé de magnifique vacances ici et je vous conseille d'en faire autant tant qu'il est encore temps!

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.
Are there any good options in July-August for great experiences in the area?

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...

We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
