ça fait plusieurs années que nous allons à Virginia Beach et c'est mon chemin préféré par le Cape May-Lewis Ferry... c'est tranquille et beaucoup moins ennuyant que la grosse autoroute plate du turnpike dans le new jersey... sauf c un peu plus long et plus cher de payage (le garden state prkway compte surement un quinzaine de péage à 35 cents + le bateau). Menfin, c'est les vacances et la route c'Est comme du tapis pour ton auto hehehehe;)
Pour répondre à tes questions: Le bateau c'est environ 1h / 1h20 - Si vous avez du beau temps vous verrez des dauphins autour du bateau c'est un beau spectacle, meme si c'est rare, amène des gravols si ta famille a l'estomac fragile a cause de l'oscillation de l'eau (c'est quand meme très rare!!) mais bon, un de mes amis avais été malade une année (moi j'ai toujours dis que c'était son burger king de la veille heheheheh).
Enfin, lorsque vous êtes au Delaware, tout se suite en sortant du traversier, si vous aimer magasiner un peu, il y a un "outlet" (reoboth je pense) dont j'oublie le nom mais ya des bons deals à faire (surtout avec l'échange cette année, je te le conseille). Pour le reste, il faut savoir que cette région de l'état est très rurale, en ce sens que c'est l'agriculture qui fait vivre cette région et les gens qui s'installe pour affaire pcq l'état du Delaware n'a pas de taxes et frais/impôts pour les compagnies sont nulles, donc ya bcpp de sièges sociaux ;). Enfin, lorsque l'on passe par la 13, on traverse presque tous les villages/petites villes, à certains endroit on dirait que nous sommes dans les bayous!! Les gens sont bien sympatiques, je te dirai qu'à certains endroit, les noirs sont majoritaires dans les villes et ont se sent assez outsiders mais lorsqu'il écoute notre accent et qu'ils savent qu'on est canadiens, ils sont plus curieux que nous... (Is there still indians in teepee up there, tu vois le genre!!), On en profite souvent pour s'acheter des Watermelon Géant de cette région et le déguste sur la route (mais nous on descend toujours en août par exemple). En effet, ya beaucoup de cultivateurs qui vendent des légumes/fruits sur le bord de la route cultivés sur place. J'ai rencontré beaucoup de camioneur québécois qui importe des légumes de ce coin. Il y a un réserve publique vers la pointe du delaware, les arbres sont gigantestes (ça accote pas la C.-B.) mais c'est différent du Québec d'aujourd'hui!
Évidemment, la cerise, c'est le Chesapeake Bay-bridge-tunnel, ça 10 kilomètre de long... 2 tunnels avec une finition de salle de bain! ils ont tourné Mission-impossible III (la scène du pont avec le jet qui fait sauter le pont) c'est là que ça été fait (t'inquiète pas, le pont est encore là, c'est la magie du cinéma!).
Je sais pas si vous avez déjà été en Virginie... si tu est fragile sur le sommeil, fait attention et trouve toi des bons bouchons!! car la base militaire de Norfolk il y a au moins un décollage ou atterissage de jet au 5-10 minutes depuis 2001!!
Moi c'est ce que je connais du coin, si tu découvre de nouvelles places au delaware, fait-moi le plaisir de m'indiquer tes découvertes!
En ce qui me concerne, je pars de Repentigny... on descends la 87 et tu prend la sortie 13A (je pense, vérifie!!) pour le "Garden State Parkway" au lieu de prendre la 287 (tu continue sur la 87) ne manque pas ta sortie sinon tu rentre tout près du Bronx hehehe . Il y a certaines partie du Garden state que tu passes à côté de la mer (Près d'Ocean City (new jersey), moi je trouve ca très bien et vraiment, c'est très "Garden" ce parkway!.
c'est la route pour te rendre à Atlantic City également, il y a quelque casino imposant là-bas (ie: Tajhmahal) quoique fait longtemps que je n'y est pas été (1998 en fait). Le problème quant à moi, c'est autour d'Atlantic City, c'est déplorable la pauvreté... Nywayz, Cape May c'est très familial et touristique, il y a beaucoup de campement si le coeur vous en dit!
Pour le traversier c'est le Cape-May-Lewis Ferry. Techniquement, ça te fait économiser beaucoup de temps... mais en réalité, c'est pas mal pareil à moins que ton itinéraire soit chronomêtré au quart de tours.
Ie: pour te rendre à Cape May, tout dépendament de vos arrêts et de votre vitesse de croisière ça oscille entre 9 et 10 heure je crois. le traversier c'est 1h à peu près et surement 1h d'attente également... (je te conseille d'éviter les heures de haute densité (le soir, 15h-18h) et très tôt le matin (jusqu'à 7h-8h) c'est un charme sinon... tu peux attendre un peu surtout si tu passe avec une grosse roulotte! De Lewis (delaware), si tu prend la 13 ou 113 (c'est pas mal la meme chose, la 13 c un peu + vite), il te reste 3h-4h de route à faire... ça dépend, moi je brette, si je vois de quoi qui m'intéresse, j'arrête et je parle avec les gens alors c'est dur de dire comme ça...
Je me souviens jamais du temps que ça me prend par la 95... 16h 18h? on voyage a deux alors c'est pas un problème, avec des enfants, c'est pas mal non plus, disons que les enfants qu'on voit sur le traversier aime bien cela! c'est une belle façon de changer le mal de place quant à moi ça me fait un bon break de conduite!
Cette année je vais aller visiter Washington surement avec ma copine en redescendant alors ca va être long ehehhehe!

Pour ma part je part de québec, ca prend environ 12 heures de route de québec a cape may
cette aannée je couche a cape may environ 2 jours et ensuite je prend le bateau pour traverser le delaware pour se rendre a virginia beach par la suite. Moi l'an passé je suis aller a cape may et wildwoodj'ai trouver cela très intéressant. le boardwalk a wildwood et la plage a cape may et il y a aussi le zoo que nous avons visiter. On a aimer notre sejour. mais une fois que tu y est aller tu as le gout de voir d'autre chose.
pour se rendre ensuite il y a environ 1h30 de bateau et 3h30 pour se rendre a virginia beach
j'Espère que vos réservation sont faite si vous parter dans 20 jours car il y a le 4 juillet au etat c'Est le jours de l'indépendance ca risque d'etre plein en titi

Comme je le disais c'est un calcul avec un logiciel. je n'ai marquer aucun arret car je peux lui indiquer qu'a toutes les heures je prend 15-20-25 minute etc. c'Est un calcul global disons a mon avis je vais prendre le bateau ca va permettre de relaxer un peu. je vais te redonner des news au sujet de ocean city. Le clarion N.I.C.E c'est plus qu'un GPS, c'est aussi un entertainement system (écran de 7 pouces) (tu peux écouter tes MP3, WMV et tes vidéo, mettre tes photos en JPG dessus. Il y a un disque dur de 20 gigs dessus, 10gig pour les maps et 10gig pour le reste (photos, film, etc...). Au Québec le meilleur prix qu'on a vu c'est dans les alentours de 1500$ (tu connais certainement déjà les endroits, dumoulin, future shop, best buy, etc...) Alors je me suis tourner vers ebay et j'en ai trouvé un pour 900$... c'est quand même bien mais il y a d'autre GPS qui font seulement la carte et fonctionne tout aussi bien!
Fait une recherche sur google et tu vas trouver plein d'endroit et le site de clarion également décrit les specs en détails

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

We went as a family to Mount Rushmore in 2023, where my son bought a multi-function pocket knife like the one below with his name engraved—'NOAH'.

We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

There are several attractions along the way:

- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?
After our first trip to the West, we’d love to go back to see other must-see spots!

Just a little post that might interest some of you:

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
