Toutes les personnes à qui je m'adresse me disent que c'est une formidable opportunité qu'il ne faut surtout pas rater!! Je m'interesse plus particulièrement au Royaume Uni. certains d'entre vous connaissent-ils les villes de Southampton ou Shefield? Avez vous déjà eu l'occasion d'effectuer votre séjour erasmus dans ces villes?
Je me permets de te répondre car j'ai moi-même effectué une année Erasmus à Manchester au Royaume-Uni. C'est en effet une expérience à ne pas manquer tant sur le plan humain que scolaire. Je ne connais pas les villes de Southampton et Sheffield personnellement donc je ne peux pas te donner de précision à ce sujet. A toi de choisir entre le nord et le sud! La géographie et l'accent sont les seules choses qui changent vraiment. J'étais dans le nord et j'ai tout simplement adoré la ville, ses habitants et la fac.
Je te conseillerai juste de prendre celle qui t'attires le plus car l'envie et la motivation font toute l'expérience Erasmus. A toi de voir aussi ce que propose la fac, les matières qui sont proposées dans l'une et pas dans l'autre. Après, suivant ta personnalité tu peux regarder aussi la vie (nocturne) étudiante (qui a une part très importante au Royaume-Uni).

Je suis en licence d'histoire à Paris IV et je me dis que partir à l'étranger est une assez bonne chose au moins pour perfectionner mon anglais =D En revanche je me pose la question de savoir s'il est mieux de partir pour un semestre ou pour un an. Partir un an me fait assez peur ( non pas que l'Angleterre soit à l'autre bout de la Terre) mais du point de vue des études. J'ai juste peur de me planter complètement à cause de la langue ( les cours en amphi en anglais...).
J'ai le choix entre : Pour un semestre: université de southampton ou université de sheffield (hallam university) pour les deux semestres: university college london ou université de durham ou université d'aberdeen ou université de brighton
On me dit que la vie est chère en Angleterre, as-tu pu profiter des bourses ( du ministère ou de ta région) ou leur nombre est-il limité?
Je suis une grande partisane des séjours d'études longs donc je te conseillerai de partir un an pour plusieurs raisons: un semestre passe vraiment très vite et c'est parfois frustrant quand on a commencé à se faire une vie et des amis là-bas de devoir tout quitter en milieu d'année. Il y a un peu un sentiment d'inachevé. si tu pars au premier semestre, ce n'est pas évident de reprendre le rythme français au deuxième semestre. Les méthodes de travail sont différentes et ce n'est pas si facile de s'y remettre. partir sur un an te donne plus de souplesse au niveau des cours. Quand tu pars au premier semestre, tu dois faire attention à prendre les cours que tu aurais eu au premier semestre afin de ne pas avoir de retard à rattraper quand tu reviendras. Sur une année tu peux t'organiser comme tu veux et généralement tu te retrouves avec de la place pour prendre des cours "coup de coeur" (ceux que tu n'as pas en France mais qui t'intéresses). Je ne sais pas trop comment cela se passe en histoire mais j'étais en LEA à Paris IV aussi et cela se passait comme ça pour nous.
Ces arguments ne sont valables que si tu pars au premier semestre bien sûr mais il y en a un autre (et de taille):
au Royaume-Uni, tout est fait pour aider l'élève. Les étudiants Erasmus ont souvent, selon leur niveau, des examens adaptés à leur condition d'étudiants d'échange. Aussi, si tu ne comprends pas, le prof sera plus que ravi de t'aider. Et si cela ne suffit pas un de tes camarades le fera. Si la seule chose qui te fait peur est de ne pas comprendre et de te planter, je t'encourage à partir pour un an car tu feras des progrès en anglais assez rapidement (si tu t'immerges complètement) et les examens consistent souvent en des essais à rendre donc tu peux bien les préparer.
Pour le niveau de vie, c'est vrai qu'il est plus élevé au Royaume-Uni mais !attention! cela ne veut pas forcément dire que tu vas dépenser plus. Je m'explique: le logement est cher, c'est sûr, mais comparé à Paris c'est à peu près semblable (je parle pour Manchester, j'imagine que Londres est plus chère) mais pour la vie courante je dépensais autant pour la nourriture qu'en France et moins en ce qui concerne les vêtements et les sorties. En fait, il y a plein de réductions pour les étudiants et il y a des magasins de vêtements (Primark pour ne pas le citer) qui te permettent de t'habiller pour bcp moins cher qu'en France. En plus en ce moment le pound est faible face à l'euro donc c'est le moment (en espérant que cela reste comme ça).
Tout étudiant Erasmus reçoit la bourse Erasmus de l'Union Européenne qui s'élevait à environ 100 euros par mois à Paris IV l'année 2007-2008 (elle dépend de chaque université et n'est versée qu'en février). J'ai aussi touché la bourse de mon conseil régional. Si tu habites à Paris tu peux demander la bourse de Paris.
C'est sûr que cela ne te payes pas ton année en entier mais cela aide bien. Par contre faut avoir d'autres moyens de financement au début vu qu'elles sont versées une fois l'année bien entamée.

Juste pour ajouter un petit commentaire sur Durham; j'y étudie en fait depuis un an et demi, pas en Erasmus puisque je suis thésarde, mais pour ceux que ça intéresse je peux renseigner sur la vie là-bas. Toute petite ville très étudiante, université réputée, et malgré son passé minier etc, la vie reste assez chère (moins que Londres certes), et il faut avoir un budget conséquent en plus des bourses dispos.
Niveau transports c'est très bien desservi, avec Newcastle à 15 minutes de train, un train toutes les 20 minutes jusque 22h environ, le taxi entre Newcastle et Durham coûte environ 20 livres; la ligne de train l'Edinburgh - Londres, il y a un aéroport à Newcastle...
Question pratique de l'Anglais et qualité de vie: je pense qu'on expérience à fond l'Angleterre dans le north east! Bien plus qu'à Londres où finalement on se retrouve parmi les (300 000?) Français vivant sur place. Il y a une forte communauté d'étudiants étrangers tout de même. On trouve difficilement du camembert et on boit souvent de la bière pas froide.
Il y a un certain charme au lieu, la nature est jolie, la mer est pas loin, et l'ambiance est ce qu'elle est... mais il y a une ambiance.
J'ai passé 4 mois à Durham et j'en garde de très bon souvenirs même si la ville est petite, elle est très animée et l'université est très réputée. En effet à Londres ce n'est pas très dépaysant, tu croises des Français à chaque coin de rue.
Si tu as l'occasion d'aller Durham, je te le conseille fortement.
Je suis actuellement en 2eme année de licence d'histoire et je pars en erasmus l'année prochaine à Durham. Je souhaiterais avoir plus d'information concernant la ville, les logements....
La ville est un peu comme une bourgade de province avec une grande universite reputee, qui fait la taille de la ville, en gros, ce qui en fait un endroit tres particulier. Construite autour d'un meandre de riviere, il y a une cathedrale classee a l'Unesco et un chateau qui appartient a l'universite.
Socialement ca bouge beaucoup avec les associations etudiantes et les colleges, et les villes de Newcastle et York ne sont pas tres loin.
On y trouve tout ce qu'on a besoin - mais si on cherche un peu plus, il faut aller dans les villes plus grandes.
Les deplacements se font surtout a pied et en velo (pour les courageux qui sont prets a affronter les collines et la circulation); le bus est un peu cher et pas super pratique et se garer releve du cauchemar. L'aeroport de newcastle est tres facile d'acces; et Durham est tres bien desservie par les trains (pour Londres, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham...).
Pour se loger, plusieurs options, mais dans tous les cas il faut s'y prendre longtemps a l'avance si on veut etre bien servi: soit demander au department de faire circuler un email pour demander qui connaitrait une chambre en colocation de disponible - la coloc c'est le moyen le plus courant de se loger ici; compter de £200/£250 a £400/£450 par mois pour une chambre en coloc, selon la proximite de la fac, la taille de la chambre, etc. Pour vivre seul, ca coute tres cher: compter pas moins de £450 a £600 par mois, sans les factures. Se renseigner au Durham Student's Union (DSU) pour plus d'infos et obtenir des listes de logement.
Ensuite une autre solution tres courante, c'est la chambre en college, mais il faut candidater tres tot pour en obtenir une. Les prix varient en fonction du college et des rpestations qu'ils offrent (chambre en coloc, chambre individuelle, avec ou sans salle de bain, repas ou non compris etc).
Pourquoi pas aller voir aussi les sites internets genre gumtree ou spareroom.com?
En resume, quasiment toute la vie ici est dirigee par la presence de l'universite :)
Sinon, mon appart est disponible a partir de fevrier/avril 2012, le loyer est de 450 livres par mois pour un 2 pieces en rez-de-chaussee avec jardin, a 10 minutes a pied du centre ville! :D

My name is Deborah, I’m French. I’m married and have two children. I’m a clinical psychologist specializing in psychotraumatology, and I’m also pursuing medical studies.

Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area.
