Hi there! I’m a young Malian looking to work in Morocco. Besides a passport, what other documents are required at the **Moroccan** border? Thanks for your help!

Hello,

So many degrees that Moroccans don’t have!!!!!! Tough answer, but it’s the truth... and on top of that, you’re "Black," I assume!!!! And this isn’t a racist comment from me!!!! On the contrary! Just realistic.

Best to you... and above all, good luck!!! And hang in there!

Regards,

A.

Emeline, it's not easy with the 'Blacks' In reality, I'm not Black.

However, Morocco practices national preference!! Even for white people!! But sometimes I find them a bit biased when it comes to skin color 😕 But if you have skills that are hard to find in Morocco... go for it!! Best regards,

A.

Yes, absolutely, Emeline. Nationals come first. However, I’d like to work in the informal sector (or with an independent employer). There’s no such thing as a "small job," as they say! Thanks a million!

Actually, there’s a very large Black community in certain Moroccan cities. Beyond students, there are plenty of jobs in call centers because the French level is better than that of Moroccans who didn’t study in French.

That said, if you’re a foreigner, you should avoid informal work at all costs. It’s the quickest way to get deported. Morocco has been implementing a whole set of procedures over the last 3-4 years to crack down on tax fraud. And as a foreigner, you must prove you have income to live in Morocco: - salaried employment - a "formal" business

Anything else means living as an undocumented immigrant, and it’s complicated (see recent events in Oulez Ziane).

For documents, the only real answer you’ll get is from the Moroccan embassy in your country to find out if you need a visa for a "tourist" stay or not. A lot is changing right now, so go straight to the source.

Hi Marie-Aude, Thank you so much for these insightful details. I’ve read your reply a bunch of times—it’s packed with great tips. I’ll do everything I can to make sure I’m all set (passport, visa, formal job). I’ll head straight to the embassy. Thanks a million again!

You mentioned 'call centers'—could you tell me which city they’re in? Or which city in Morocco would you recommend? Just a reminder: I have fair skin and am of Tuareg ethnicity. Thanks for your feedback!
ME Mezgarne Globetrotter ·
Call centers are essentially in Casablanca.

I’d advise you to refine your project a bit—get in touch with people already expatriated in Morocco. Coming here without any idea of "where, how to work, or how to make a living" is a risky move.

I wish you good luck! There are a few Malian Tuaregs in Morocco who’ve gotten study grants—one of them became a journalist, so you might wanna follow that lead. Another’s studying law in Fez… I’ll try to track them down.

Good luck! And with Mezgarne giving you tips about today’s Morocco for work... you’re all set. I wasn’t exactly chill, but the contacts I have... they reinforced that image for me, and I see how they act and think.

Best of luck!

A.

I wasn’t cool, but the contacts I have... sent me this image... and I see them act and think.

You were absolutely right. Being an "azizi" in Morocco isn’t cool.
