Hi everyone, I was supposed to go to Greenland in 2020, but—Covid! Then, health issues. This time *has* to be the one. I’m going on a small cruise on the *World Explorer*. So, depending on my physical abilities, I’d love to visit the Icefjord from Ilulissat. Do any of you know if there’s a way to get there by vehicle, off the main paths? If not, what particular challenges might there be on foot? I think it takes about 45 minutes? Thanks for your help, have a great day!

There’s no road to get to the icefjord, just a very easy wooden boardwalk. Next time, try to find a sailboat to explore this region. You’ll find amazing itineraries that are more respectful of this extraordinary nature, and you’ll get up close to the icebergs and whales without sacrificing comfort. Just so you know, there’s still space available on Sébastien Roubinet’s sailboat in August and September.

Hi Jean-Michel,

There’s no particular difficulty in reaching the walkway overlooking the Icefjord, except for a good climb. You can see the distance on the map I posted back when in my trip report on page 4. It’s possible to get there by vehicle, and there are taxis in Ilulissat—some are listed on Tripadvisor.

Wishing you a wonderful cruise.

The last very short climb is done via stairs, and you do indeed have to go up onto the road before the museum-cultural center, the Icefjord Center, but this part can be done by taxi.
