Is the road along the Tessaout Valley paved?

Hi It's hard to tell from Maps or anything else whether the road along the Tessaout is fully paved from Amezri all the way to the junction with the road connecting Demnate to Ouarzazate (RN23). Thanks for your replies! Herviche

Hi It was paved between Ait Amza and just before Amezri (October 2025), then it was a dirt track to Amezri, but maybe the pavement has been extended since then? (Tamezrite n'Ait Affane)

Thanks Djalma! We’re all good that you can easily reach Amezri by paved road from Skoura, right? I thought the pavement continued along the Tessaout after Amezri (I passed through Amezri on a hike in 2023).

Coming from Ouarzazate, the paved road goes as far as Amezri. After that, it's a dirt track that actually runs through the Tessaout riverbed!

Actually, the paved road goes all the way to the village of Ichbaken, just past Amezri..

I’ve been there several times from Skoura, and it’s paved all the way to Amezri and even to Ichbaken. It’s definitely worth the trip.

Thanks Jeeaan

If I understand correctly, once you reach Ichbaken from Amezri, is a U-turn unavoidable? No way to get to Ifloulou or Megdaz in a regular car?

Nothing after Ichbaken (2025) except the riverbed! Unless the construction has progressed since then. PS: You can still do some great hikes in this area if... you love walking!

Hikes from Amezri? From the step-over lodge overlooking the Tessaout near the bridge? I saw there’s also a lodge "Chez Youssef"? I only did the descent from the Tarkedit plateau to Amezri via Tasguaiwalt (a full day) and then Amezri to Roughoult via the Tizi n’Roughelt in a long day—great memories! Is it easy to find a guide for a one- to two-day hike? Any other hikes or accommodations in Ichbaken? Thanks

Yes, from the gîte d'étape we did Amezri to Taisgawalt (round trip along the Tessaout and via a path slightly set back from the Tessaout on the way back): Easy, with 300 or 400m of total elevation gain. The next morning, we set off early for Amezri to Ichbaken, which more or less follows the Tessaout (we crossed the oued several times). That was much longer (18/20 km?)—7 to 8 hours of hiking—but not much more elevation gain, if I remember correctly. Ichbaken is a really beautiful village! We also wanted to go to Megdaz, but that’s a 3-day loop, and we didn’t want to leave the car parked for that long. I’ll definitely go back. PS: In general (though it’s not mandatory), I don’t hire a guide. I use GPS + apps like Visorando, Komoot, Wikiloc, and Maps.me.
