Vs devez reserver sur un site europeen . Vs aurez acces à des forfaits plus interessants comprenant toutes les assurances necessaires.
Actuellement, chez les grands loueurs en direct, AVIS fait les meilleurs tarifs, avec le code de reduction H811101 à inserrer dans la case AWD.
Les voitures des grands loueurs sont tres recentes. Tres peu de risquees de panne. En cas de panne ou d'accident, vs avez un e assistance si vs etes au bord de la route, sinon vs allez dans un bureau du loueur et on vs change la voiture.

Je constate une augmentation substantielle des prix de location, que la flambée du $ n'explique pas tout à fait.
L'année passé, en Mai, pour 19 jours de SLC à LAS j'avais loué une Chevrolet Tahoe chez Hertz à 891€, cette année en septembre, pour 16j de SLC à SFO ils demandent 2235€ !!!!!!!!!. Chez Avis, je paierai 1322€.
J'ai attendu attendu pour d'éventuels codes de réduction Hertz mais rien n'arrive et je crois que leurs dieux sont tombés sur la tête.
D'aucun diront que si je voulais payer moins je devais prendre un plus petit modèle mais les vacances c'est aussi se faire plaisir.............même si à ce tarif, comme le disait Bastinj, à l'avenir on va recommencer à visiter les vieilles pierres de ce côté de l'Atlantique.

Pour comparer, il y a 2 ans, j'avais eu un CHEVY TRAVERSE chez HERTZ 17 jours LAX->SFO pour 577 €. cette année, chez AVIs, c'est actuellement 930 €
Autrement, Je pars mi-mai, et j'ai réservé 2 voitures sur 4.
Pour le principal, j'attends tjrs des prix normaux chez HERTZ. (11.000 $ pour un TAHOE 17 jours de SFO à LV... N'importe quoi, alors que le CADILLAC ESCALADE, le même en plus luxueux, est à 2200 $...)
C'est tjrs n'importe quoi tous les débuts d'année chez HERTZ, et les prix normaux arrivent en avril.
J'attends car les années précédentes, HERTZ était 10% moins cher que AVIS, et que comme les prix AVIS restent stables tout le long de la saison.( enfin restaient stable, car avec la chute de l'€, les prix augmentent un peu.) j'aurais tjrs la possibilité de louer chez les rouges.
Vendre une assurance, qu'on n'a sûrement ou certainement pas besoin, au comptoir n'est pas une escroquerie de la part du vendeur mais je suis tout de même loin de considérer ça comme une aide de sa part 😏

Aucune idée mais ... je réserve toujours en prenant soin de prendre une résa annulable gratuitement comme ça je suis gagnant dans tous les cas de figure:
- Les prix montent ? Pas grave j'ai déjà ma résa...
- Les prix baissent ? Je réserve un nouveau véhicule et j'annule la résa précédente.
Et ça marche très bien. Je l'ai expérimenté 2 fois, dans les 2 cas j'ai été remboursé dans la semaine.

Perso, pas de préférences particulières, je prends soin de tout comparer et surtout que les assurances nécessaires soient bien présentes. Pour les intermédiaires, j'ai quand même mes préférences : Carigami, auto Europe et BSP. J'ai déjà eu l'occasion d'expérimenter leur SAV (problèmes de pneus), j'ai toujours été satisfait.
Parfois, je loue en direct mais pour l'avoir expérimenté, il ne faut pas croire que de limiter les intermédiaires va accélérer le processus. En Australie, j'ai eu de gros problèmes avec un loueur en direct qui faisait la sourde oreille et mes soucis n'ont trouvé une solution que 7 mois après.
A la limite, j'aurais préféré avoir un intermédiaire qui me parle en langue française qu'un Australien que je devais appeler à minuit pour espérer l'avoir au bout du fil ...🤪

Chez tous les loueurs ou hotels ou autres, le paiement en pré-paid est toujours plus avantageux. Il faut bien donner une carotte au client pour qu'il accepte de bloquer une resa, et verser de l'argent plus tot.
autrement ca n'aurait aucun interet.
Attention ces resas en pre-paid sont souvent non annulables et non modifiables. Mais on peut contourner ce defaut
Perso, pour les HOTELS, je fais une premiere resa normale, annulable, pour etre sur d'avoir quelque chose, et une quinzaine avant mon depart, comme tout est bouclé, je la modifie en pré-paid.
Pour les loueurs, chez HERTZ, on peut modifier sa resa SAUF pour le lieu d'arrivée. Si les tarifs changent en mieux, baisse ou code promo plus avantageux, il suffit de modifier un element mineur de la resa (par ex avancer ou retarder d'1/4 d'heure le moment de prise ou restitution), pour que le systeme recalcule le prix, et vs recredite de la difference.

Mon expêrience de l'an dernier : AVIS a toujours été tres competitif, (avec le code remise AWD : J046300 et ses variantes, ) et les prix sont restés constants toute l'année.
ALAMO a fait une remise de 10%, mais assez tard dans la saison.
Chez HERTZ, comme d'habitude, les prix ont été dans le n'importe quoi, et comme d'habitude, les prix ont baissé à partir de mars.
Pour le n'importe quoi : le CADILLAC ESCALADE (le 4x4 de luxe) a été à partir d'aout au prix de la TOYOTA COROLLA...
Pour HERTZ, regardez avec les codes CDP 510000, 963123,211762,1244810, a combiner ou non avec les codes RQ WOW ou BEST. on a parfois de belles surprises.
Pour AVIS comme HERTZ, regardez les sites irlandais, eventuellement belges, espagnols

Chez HERTZ, j'en ai d'autres, mais j'avoue que je ne m'amuse plus à tout essayer.
Pour le vehicule, le RAV4 (ou ce qu'il y aura d'equivalent, car les parcs de location sont trustés par KIA et HYUNDAY qui font le forcing aupres des loueurs pour s'implanter sur les flottes US) me semble un peu petit.
Regardez les prix. Il n'y a pas forcement une grosse difference avec un midsize.
Chez HERTZ, le FORD EXPLORER est parfois au même prix que le midsize, voire moins cher.
Dans cette categorie, il y a aussi le Chevrolet TRAVERSE, plus gros interieurement, mais qui est moins "franchisseur"
PS : Sur le site HERTZ, regardez aussi les vehicules dont les prix ne sont pas affichés directement 3cliquez pour reserver": il y a parfois des bonnes surprises.

Ce n'est pas parce que tu as un code de - 15% chez machin ou bidule que du coup il devient le moins cher du marché. Il faut toujours comparer. Perso, j'ai réservé l'année passée chez auto Europe et en tant qu'abonné à leur Newsletter j'ai eu une réduc supplémentaire de 7%, j'ai eu beau cherché sur le net et notamment essayé les codes promos fournis gentiment par Jpg13, je n'ai jamais trouvé moins cher. Maintenant, chacun fait comme il veut ...
Un bon prix , c'est une chose , mais ce n'est pas suffisant , il faut voir aussi le service , l'état des voitures , et le temps passé pour la récupèrer et pour la rendre 😉

Bien entendu que la remise n'a aucune importance et qu'il faut regarder le prix final. Faut faire des simuls.
Ceci dit, l'an dernier, le code AVIS que j'ai donné a permis à pas mal de personne d'avoir le meilleur prix.

Exact et même parfois le temps de location. En tout cas, avec les critères que tu décris, pour mon cas personnel, Avis n'était pas compétitif (et pourtant j'avais essayé tous tes codes y compris ceux que tu avais donnés dans d'anciens messages 😉 ). Maintenant, on peut arguer qu'Avis offre des meilleurs services que tel ou tel autre loueur mais ça c'est un autre débat et c'est aussi très variable d'une franchise à l'autre. De plus, les critères étant assez subjectifs, il n'y aura pas de consensus. Au moins pour le prix, on peut tous être d'accord, il suffit de faire une simulation sur Internet.
Pour les franchisés, il se trouve que HERTZ et AVIS ont beaucoup de stations "corporates", donc leur appartenant, ce qui n'etait pas le cas avec BUDGET ou surtout DOLLAR, qui au contraire étaient des réseaux de franchisés, y compris dans les "grands" aéroports..
A titre d'exemple, les problèmes rencontrés auparavant avec DOLLAR venait d'ailleurs surtout de franchisés qui essayaient de place le plus d'options possibles.
Je parle à l'imparfait car BUDGET a été racheté par AVIS, et DOLLAR par HERTZ (contraint et forcé pour que AVIS ne le rachète pas), pour en faire leur low-cost.
AVIS a déjà commencé à fusionner les agences BUDGET, un peu comme la fait ENTREPRISE avec ALAMO et NATIONAL il y a déjà quelques années.
HERTZ pour l'instant n'a l'air de pas bien savoir que faire de DOLLAR.
Ceci dit, en matière de location de voiture, on ne peut pas parler de haut de gamme ou non.
HERTZ et AVIS s'adresse à une clientèle d'affaire, qui est prête à payer un peu plus pour avoir un meilleur service : beaucoup plus d'agences, moins d'attente, plus de véhicules, et un choix plus grand. Tout cela n'a pas forcement beaucoup d’intérêt pour nous touristes.
La clientèle "low cost" va regarder avant tout le prix, et les qualités de service citées plus haut n'ont pas forcement d’intérêt pour elle.
Le seul truc qui risque de gêner cles clients des low-cost est que HERTZ et AVIS vont prendre les véhicules neufs, et une fois qu'ils ont un peu roulé les refiler à leur filiale.
Il me semble que tu avais déjà brossé ce tableau et j'avais pour le coup appris quelque chose.
J'ai loué cet été chez Dollar où des véhicules quasi neufs côtoyaient des véhicules avec 30 000 miles au compteur. J'ai quand même choisi un avec plus de 30 000 miles au compteur pour avoir ce modèle précisément (Nissan X Terra) . Et d'ailleurs, je félicité Dollar d'en avoir encore dans leur flotte car je ne pense pas que les autres le proposent encore.
Ma question principale portait effectivement sur les loueurs ou prestataires, et quand réserver. Les codes fournis font sensiblement baisser le tarif et hertz se trouve du coup bien placé. Voir mieux que certains tarif de prestataires.
Mais c'est très variable tout ca.....

Par exemple, chez les "haut de gamme" pour reprendre ton expression, AVIS à LAX ne semble pas terrible : il y a eu quelques retours sur ce forum sur leur agressivité commerciale à imposer des supplements.

Ben perso, je suis GOLD FIVE STAR (je me la pete) et je n'ai pas à passer au comptoir pour prendre ma voiture. Juste à aller à l'emplacement de parking qui m'a été envoyé par SMS.
Donc aucune appreciation sur SFO.

Attention, si tu es AVIS PREFERED, le code AWD ne passait pas l'an dernier si tu faisait ta resa sous ton N° WIZARD.
Il faut soit reserver par tel, soit faire une resa comme un client LAMBDA et tel apres au call center, pour reaffecter ton N° WIZARD à la resa.
Le J046307 erstr une variante du J046300, qui donne en plus droit à un coupon dans des outlets. Le prix et le même, et l'avantage poas terrible, surtout que pour moi et notre ami CAUSSAT, le coupon est arrivé apres notre retour...
Je vais des simulations pour louer à Bozeman (Montana) et restituer le véhicule à Las Vegas.
Chez Avis, les frais de restitution (drop off) semblent inclus, cependant je n'arrive pas trouver le tarif pour le conducteur additionnel.
J'ai lu dans une autre discussion que c'étati de l'ordre de 25$ par jour avec un maximum de 65 $ pour toute la durée de la location 🤪
MAIS, comme l'a découvert notre ami CAUSSAT, l’épouse est gratuite chez AVIS (enfin comme conducteur additionnel, car lâchée dans un outlet, elle coûte cher)
Pour répondre à votre question, je vais vous parler de mon expérience lors de mon voyage.
Je suis partie fin septembre pour une durée de 2 semaines. J'ai loué une voiture pendant 11 jours: SF, Sequioa NP, Death valley NP, Las Vegas, Bryce canyon NP, Arches NP, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas et retour Los Angeles.
J'ai récupéré ma voiture à l’aéroport de SF et rendu à l’aéroport de LA.
Le meilleur prix que j'ai trouvé fût via le site rentalcar (te permet de comparer les différents organismes). J'ai effectué la réservation en avril. Je ne sais pas la meilleur période pour réserver, après la fluctuation des prix provient également des variations de l'€/$ car même si les prix sont en euro le site ce base sur les prix en $ qu'il traduit en €.
En ce qui me concerne pour 11 jours de location de voiture, j'en ai eu pour 380€. Initialement j'avais loué un Ford escape mais en arrivant j'ai eu un Chevrolet Equinox Limited tout neuf le top 😎. Le meilleur tarif que j'avais trouvé au moment où j'ai loué fût avec national et j'ai eu aucun problème.
J'avais réservé avec la possibilité d'annulé car en réservant plusieurs mois en avance on ne sait pas ce qu'il peut se passer.
Il faut faire attention car chez certain loueur (les plus petits ils peuvent te facturer des frais d'abandon, à bien vérifier).

Finalement, j'ai réservé via Avis belgique une catégorie W (style ford edge), départ SF, retour LV du 07 au 31 juillet, soit 24 jours pour 984 euros.
Au préalable j'avais ouvert un compte preferred et j'ai utilisé le code J046307.
Le tarif me semblait assez intéressant après consultation de différents sites de prestataires ou loueurs concurrent. Je finissait toujours aux alentours de 1100 euros pour un Rav4 donc une catégorie en dessous si j'ai bien tout compris.....

Petite question. Sur le voucher de avis, mon adresse est donnée avec Pays "Belgique" alors que sur mon compte Preferred mon adresse est bien en France. Lors de la réservation je n'ai pas pu modifier l'adresse. Est-ce problématique ? Dois-je contacter avis pour rectification ?
Si vs vs etes connecté sous vote compte prefered, avez vs verifié que le montant final de la resa correspondait à ce qu'il etait annoncé au depart.
Ces dernieres années, il y avait en effet un bug sur le site AVIS, car le tarif final au moment de payer redevenait celui sans la remise AWD.
Autrement, aucun probleme pour la prise du vehicule... Laissez faire. L'an dernier j'ai fait une resa sur le site irlandais, et on ne m'a rien demandé de particulier au comptoir.
Ca n'a aucune importance et AVIS s'en moque. Par exemple, , a cause du probleme cité plus haut, j'avais fait ma resa comme un client lambda, et lorsque j'ai telephoné à AVIS FRANCE pour rattacher ma resa à mon compte prefered, le type n'a fait aucune remarque.
De toute façon, vs n'avez pas à presenter votre voucher au comptoir : votre carte AVIS PREFERED suffit.
(attention, si vs demandez un conducteur supp, chez AVIS il faudra qu'il presente aussi une carte de credit)

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:

- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
