Renting a car in Sri Lanka, how to do it..?

Hi there. We’re leaving for Sri Lanka in just a few days for three weeks. After some thought, we’ve decided to rent a car with a driver.

I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the ads, and I’m feeling a little lost about booking confidently from France... Especially since I’m more used to going through big international rental companies. What worries me most is the insurance and the quality/safety of the car—more than the languages spoken or how friendly the driver is.

Do any of you have experiences to share to help me out, please? Thanks in advance! 😊

Hi there,

Just type "Colombo car hire with driver" into Google and click on "Places." That’ll quickly give you a list of agencies. Pick the ones with at least 50 reviews (average rating over 4) and read the most recent negative reviews to see if people were upset because the driver didn’t want to work 24 hours a day or if there were real issues (drunk driver, always late, constantly taking you to souvenir shops, a junk car... Don’t choose an agency with only ultra-positive reviews—it’s sketchy because perfection doesn’t exist!). Narrow it down to three and ask for quotes. 😊

You can also trust the addresses listed in recent paper travel guides.

Hi there, thanks for your reply!

Instead of Google, I ended up checking out Tong’s and LP’s websites and emailed several drivers :) I’m now comparing the responses between insurance, taxes, parking fees, AC or no AC... long-distance headache :D :D
