hi I’ve gotten into the habit of making photo/video/music montages of my trips using Movie Maker

Are there any free software options with better quality? Thanks

Hi there, Here are some free software options! https://www.01net.com/astuces/les-meilleurs-logiciels-gratuits-de-montage-video-pour-windows-1223666.html

But they’re free— for 40 €, you get good software in French with tutorials under 2 minutes: it’s AVS4YOU. https://www.avs4you.com/fr/avs-video-editor.aspx You can download it for free and use it; just at the final export, there’s a logo at the beginning and end. Good luck!

To merge multiple MP4 files, I use MP4Joiner, it's simple and fast. Then for photos/videos/music, I finish up with Movie Maker, which works great for me.

For music, I pick from YouTube's audio library (which has really improved). Either by following the guidelines for copyrighted tracks (read the terms), or using royalty-free tracks. To avoid issues with copyright trolls, like here in Thailand:

Hi there,

Personally, I use Premiere on Windows (there’s a paid light version, but it’s really cheap) from www.adobe.fr.

Otherwise, among the free ones I’ve tried, the one that seemed the simplest—yet still very powerful—is OpenShot. It’s completely free—no demo version that asks you to pay after a month’s trial.

Another plus: it’s also available for Linux (I’ve tested it on both Windows and Linux).

Cheers

For video editing, I've tried quite a few free software options too, but sometimes I run into format compatibility issues, especially with TS videos or some rarer files. It's often a pain to convert everything before I can even start editing. When I had a bunch of TS rushes from a camera, I had to figure out how to convert them to use in my favorite video editor, because otherwise nothing would open properly.

On this topic, I found some practical tips for converting TS to MP4 easily. It’s honestly super useful if you want to avoid pulling your hair out with files that crash in editing software.
