Aujourdhui, j'ai vu encore ce qui me fait trés mal au coeur,
des chiens sans rien, tout maigre, et qui toujours se batte dés qu'il y a du riz qui traine.
J'aimerais bien faire une sorte de parrainage, c'"est a dire choisir un ou plusieurs chien, et venir
tout les jours leur donner de la bouffe, pas forcément du pedigree, mais du riz (il raffole de ca),
histoire qu'il ai le ventre rempli. Ca nous couterai rien, pensez vous que c'est une bonne idée ?
Aussi je sais bien qu'il y a des thai qui ont besoin de manger, mais j'essai de donner un billet au mendiant,
je fais attention a qui je donne ...

Oula ce post m'etonne un petit peu je dois dire; pas sur la demarche que je trouve bonne mais sur les repercutions que cela peu avoir ...
Je m'explique, avec le nombre de chien errant, comment vas tu choisir lequel merite le plus d'etre nourris ? puis pense que si tu commence a apporter des gamelles de riz cela va suciter de la jalousie aupres des autres chiens.
Donc dans le meilleur des cas tu arrive a nourrir le chien de ton choix le temps de ta presence sur place, ce qui peu emmener le chien a reclamer encore plus de bouffe autour des resto et autres..et dans le pire des cas tu te retrouve chaque soir avec une sanglante bagarre de cabots ou alors une meute de chien affamer qui te suivront jusqu'a ton hotel.
La solution serait plus une campagne de castration des chiens errant pour eviter la surpopulation affamées, enfin je pense.Le probleme est pas nouveau et je sais pas si c'est a nous touriste de faire les demarche meme si cela nous fais mal au coeur.
C'est vrai tu m'a fait réfléchir.
En donnant a manger au chien en bas de mon immeuble, il va en avoir 50 qui vont arriver (souvent la nuit y se bastonne), ensuite des bagarres ...
des troupes et surement le boss de la troupe va vouloir me bouffer.
C'est vrai que la solution serait de castrer tout ca, mais bon si moi le blanc vais dire ca au gouvernement ahahah...
ca sera ok avec 100.000 baths Monsieur le Farang on vous fait ca, mais bien sur en liquide....
mais bon je donnerai toujours de temps en temps une petite brochette au chien blanc de mon immeuble

Il y a beaucoup de rats qui sont affamés et ils sont aussi des êtres vivants. C'est donc dire qu'on n'a pas fini avec le parrainage de tout genre.
La perception du chien en tant qu'animal domestique proche de l'homme est culturelle.
Dans certains pays, je dirais même dans certaines régions de Thaïlande ou même de France, le chien est considéré comme une denrée alimentaire.
En Thaïlande, le lapin est exclusivement un animal de compagnie. Les Thaïs qui arrivent en France pour la première fois sont souvent horrifiés en découvrant des lapins dépecés sur l'étal d'un boucher.
Concernant le parrainage d'un enfant et les organisations mafieuses, j'en ai apprise une bien bonne lors d'un récent voyage dans le nord :
Les programmes du genre "parrainez un enfant pour 10 euros par mois" organisés par des organisations chrétiennes assurent aux enfants des tribus montagnardes une éducation tout à fait comparable à celle qu'ils auraient de toute façon en fréquentant les écoles publiques, mais leur imposent par contre de se convertir au christianisme.
Alors tu as tout à fait raison, il est très difficile de choisir qui aider et, surtout, de trouver quelqu'un qui en a réellement besoin.

John est en train de collecter des fonds pour construire un dortoir pour les enfants des villages montagnards qui sont parfois à plusieurs heures de marche de leur école.
Parfois, quand j'achète quelques brochettes dans la rue, il y toujours un ou deux chiens autour de moi. Idem sur les plages. Donc je leur prends une brochette de foie de poulet pour chacun.
Ce n'est pas totalement la philosophie du film, à voir (je ne sais pas s'il est sortie chez nous) pour comprendre enorment de choses sur la Thailande, les relations inter-generationel et … la plus grande pitié des gens (qui ont de l'argent) pour les chiens que pour les humains.
Très bon film à mon avis, même s'il ne mérite pas de cesar. 😉

La brochette c'est une bonne idee🙂 mais ce qui est encore plus important c'est de les strerelises pour ne plus qu'ils se reproduisent et repeuple la population errante.

Exact mais plus exactement il veut mettre en place un systeme de parrainage des 5 bebes elephants qui sont nes cette annee 2006 a Surin ... Le controle de l, argent peut etre serieux car la facon dont il veux proceder pourrait eviter pas mal de probleme ..et semblerait tres efficace ... Mais le plus puissant dans l, histoire c, est que parrainer un elephant c, est aussi parrainer la famille du Mahout ( proprietaire et dresseur) donc ses enfants qui ne vont pas a l, ecole, etc .. avec et leur chiens ... A titre informatif, pour ceux qui ne le savent pas, un elephant porte un nom humain, fait parti integrante de la famille qui s, occupe de lui pour la vie ..... Aucune subvention de l, etat pour eux ...RIEN ou quelques bananes achetees par les touristes et promenades ...et 1500 baths par le gouvernement pour 10 jours de festival ....😕 misere ...!!!! Le coup d, entretien journalier d, un BB elephant et de sa mere est de environ 1000 Baths minimum ...le lait, la nourriture de la mere et la famille entiere qui doit manger, et n, oublions pas les chiens 😏.. En voie de disparition l, elephant d, Asie 😕!!!!! de meme que ceux qui s, en occupent....Les Suays .. LE festival des elephants a Surin a ete magnifique cette annee ou ce noble animal etait a l, honneur ..D, autant plus que les 60 ans de regne du Roi l, ont projete encore plus en avant ...Tout un symbole ., car il a ete le plus beau depuis son premier Round _up en 1955... je ne veut pas polémiquer, je ne suis PAS contre la SPA, BB, Greenpeace et je les soutiens tous les 3 régulièrement financièrement MAIS il faut trouver les priorités. Les animaux sont importants mais un enfant affamé sans éducation et malade me touche bcp plus le coeur !
Un enfant éduqué et nourri aura un autre avenir qu'un chien nourri, l'enfant pourra aider les autres, sortir sa famille de la misère, faire un monde meilleur !
Stériliser les chiens en thailande est une de ssolutions et j'ai vu en asie des chiens attaquer des enfants qui mangeaient sans parler des problèmes d'hygiène liés aux chiens errants...

tu n'as pas tort, mais la misère d'un gosse ou d'un chien n'est pas comparable.
il y a des gens pour s'occuper de ca et il en faut d'autre pour ... le reste.
les animaux sont moin important la plupart du temps, aux yeux du reste du monde. je comprend pourquoi mais cela n'empeche pas que certains voir beaucoup j'espere, puissent s'attarder sur les problemes des chiens errants ou non strerilizé, par exemple.

Va falloir que le gouvernement ou les provinces s'occupent sérieusement de ce problème, on ne peut plus faire deux pas sans marcher sur un chien et trois tours de roues de Dream sans se faire courser par un congénère du précédent.
Je lance appel à candidature pour trouver une solution radicale à l'élimination de tous les chiens errants de Thailande; couverts de pustules, de poux et d'animaux divers, propageant un tas de maladies y compris la rage.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary.
We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).
Special note: we love traveling by train :)
