Passport validity for entering Morocco

Hi there,

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April. My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date. Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry. However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).

It's an individual family trip.

The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)

Will Ryanair let me board in Beauvais in 3 weeks?

Thanks for your advice—this is a bit urgent 😕😕😕😕

Thanks! :) I see the topic was discussed here: http://voyageforum.com/v.f?post=5884623;search_string=Maroc%20validite%20du%20passeport

Apparently, a passport that’s still valid is enough, despite what some sites—including the Moroccan embassy’s—say.

hi, Moroccan authorities are the ones who will check the validity period of your passport. Airlines don’t care, as long as your passport is valid on the day you board the plane.

Moroccan law states:

Moroccan regulations regarding entry into Morocco require that any foreigner wishing to travel to Morocco must hold a passport or any other valid travel document (valid at least until the end of their stay in Morocco), recognized by the Moroccan state as a travel document (Law No. 02-03 of November 11, 2003, on the entry and stay of foreigners in Morocco).

(see: http://www.amb-maroc.fr/BienvenueMaroc/voyager_au_maroc.htm)

So you’re good to go.

best regards, elhine

Hi there, No problem at all. Print your return ticket and keep it with you just in case... I’ve already traveled with a passport that expired 2 months ago. No issues.

Except that one day you might get turned away or prevented from boarding.

I found Ryanair’s boarding requirements: - passport must be valid (no more) for Morocco - national ID card for the Schengen Area only

http://www.ryanair.com/fr/termes-et-conditions#regulations-traveldocumentation

This answers the question (the Moroccan Consulate tells me it’s a valid passport, but can’t explain the "less than 3 months" note on their website).

Thanks everyone :)

Your passport just needs to be valid—it shouldn’t expire before you return. http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/particuliers/F14873.xhtml

Hello, I just wanted to confirm that I was able to board under the conditions described above, and that I also returned safely :) Deborah

Hi there,

Just confirming your confirmation 😉 So, it's now accepted—but only very recently—that a passport expiring less than 3 months after returning from Morocco is okay. Finally! And lucky for me, since my passport expires in mid-August—I wouldn’t have been able to board yesterday...😕

So that won’t be a problem? I’m in the same situation... 🤪

it's all good as long as your passport is valid on the date of your return ticket. It's fine even with Ryanair. have a good trip :) Deborah

Thanks for your reply! So Ryanair won’t block my online ticket check-in tonight? You’ve given me hope again...

It’s all good—just make sure your passport is valid on the date of your return ticket. It’s fine even with Ryanair. Have a great trip! :) Deborah

I don’t agree with the answers I’ve received. I’ve been living in Morocco and hosting European clients like myself for 10 years. My cousin was turned away by Moroccan border police a month ago because her passport was valid for less than 6 months. You might deal with an airline employee who isn’t well-informed, just like a Moroccan police officer at the airport. The rule is: your passport must still be valid for 6 months after the end of your trip, or you can use an ID card if traveling through a travel agency. The rest is *inchallah*—so at your own risk and peril.

Hello,

Things have likely changed since then. On the French diplomatic site for a stay in Morocco, it states: "Entry requirements

For a stay in Morocco, you must have a passport that is valid for the entire duration of your planned stay."

And on the Moroccan diplomatic site: "A valid passport, covering at least the duration of your stay in Morocco, is required."
