Salut a tous, voila , je mets mon ébauche de mon voyage en aout 2010 dans l'ouest.Et j'aurai voulu savoir vos avis , en sachant que nous somme 4 adultes, et que nous voudrions avoir quand mème quelques grasses matinées, genre 10h max et au moins 1 ou 2 jours sans courir.Une ville ou nous pourrions faire 2 nuit sans s'ennuyer, mall, etc........Et question aussi au niveau de supporter la chaleur.Comment se passe par exemple une visite en après midi?TRop chaud , obliger donc de se lever a l'aube quoi qu'il arrive?
Et DEATH VALLEY vu notre départ de L.VEGAS en matinée que me conseilleré vous?Vous q'u'on arriverai genre 10 ou 11 h ?Trop chaud pour faire dans la journée et traverser direct? ou dormir a furnace creek ranch?En sachant que je veux faire les point de vue classic au tour de l'hotel.

(SOUTH RIM) et redodo a chinle
JEUDI 05 Lever a l’aube direction PETRIFIED FOREST et PAINTED DESERT 2H et 160 kms. Visite puis direction METEOR CRATER a 1h24.15 $ par personne, ferme a 17h, puis direction FLAGSTAFF 50 mn et 68 kms pour dodo.
VENDREDI 06 Direction GRAND CANYON par CAMERON, environ 2h.Coucher sur place ou a TUSAYAN.
SAMEDI 07 Matin a TUSAYAN, ballade en hélicoptère a 8h25 pendant 25 mn au dessus de G CANYON.150$ par personne.
Après midi, direction WILLIAMS, 1h15 et 96kms, puis arrêt a SELIGMAN 40mn et 70kms, puis prendre la route
66 jusqu'à KINGMAN et nuit sur place.
DIMANCHE 08 Direction OATMAN, visite et on remonte à LAS VEGAS en passant par HOOVER DAM. Nuit a VEGAS.
LUNDI 09 Direction DEATH VALLEY dodo au FURNACE CREEK RANCH. Visite BAD WATER, DANTES VIEW, ARTIST PALETT
A s’organiser car plus frais le soir pour les voir.
MARDI 10 Se lever avant le soleil pour aller a ZABRISKIE POINT puis direction LEE VINING, arret au passage a LONE PINE.Dodo LEE VINING.
MERCREDI 11 matin dodo, après midi BODIE et MONO LAKE et redodo LEE VINING.
JEUDI 12 Départ tôt pour traverser YOSEMITE par la TIOGA ROAD avec arrêt et descente sur MARIPOSA GROVE.
Dormi je sais pas ou pour l’instant, j’attend de savoir s’il faut 1 ou 2 jours pour traverser
VENDREDI 13 SAN FRANCISCO pour 3 jours je pense ??? et s’il me reste des jours a voir
ton Lundi 02 m'a l'air bien trop chargé, surtou sachant que tu dis ne pas vouloir courir 🤪
pour le 09 moi je partirai en début d'aprèsm de Vegas sinon vous allez faire la visite de DV en plein cagnard. Vous pourriez faire le tour des outlet le matin (ou la grasse mat)

Oatman est sur la route 66. Et le Hoover Dam n'est pas à Page, mais entre Las Vegas et Kingman 😉. Tu confonds avec le barrage du Glen Canyon.

Contrairement à Envallis, je trouve cette journée pas trop chargée... C'est tout à fait cela que nous avons fait le 7/07/2009 (voir mon compte rendu ds le site ci-dessous), à condition que tu ne fasses que le Lower ou le Upper Antelope Canyon (pas les 2)... Nous avons même eu le temps de pique niquer près du lac Powell avant de se mettre en route pour Monument Valley que nous avons parcouru 2 H avant le coucher de soleil.
Tu ne dois même pas te lever très tôt pour faire Hoseshoe Bend avant (la meilleure heure pour la luminosité étant vers 9H30-10H)... Ensuite tu te présentes vers 10H45 à Antelope Canyon (n'oublie pas d'être passé par là , avant Horseshoe Bend , pour réserver le tour de 11H00, si tu veux faire Upper )

à propos de Antelope Canyon (je vais "peut-être" m'attirer des foudres...), si je ne devais refaire qu'un seul des 2 ce serait :
LOWER !!
Eh OUI car c'est moins chargé le matin (nous l'avons fait le 18 août à 9h30- jour 15 sur le blog), c'est très sympa de descendre dans le "trou" en se faufilant...et les formes et couleurs sont superbes. En plus il n'y a pas d'attente (ou très peu), et pas de trajet en 4x4.
La seule contrainte c'est, à la sortie, de faire le chemin dans le sable pour revenir au point de départ (10mn maxi).
Ce matin là, nous avons enchaîné:
8h15 départ de Wahweap marina jusque Horseshoes (attention 20mn c'est pour aller du parking près de la 89, montée dans le sable et arriver au point de vue. le retour au parking est plus facile).
9h30 nous attaquons Lower, puis nous allons de l'autre côté de la route pour RV de 11h00 à Upper.
Eh bien, il n'est pas encore bouclé, ce voyage ? 😛
Je voulais juste faire quelques petites remarques :
- faire la grasse mat', vu d'ici, ça semble tentant, mais vous verrez que sur place, vous serez levés très tôt et sans aucun souci, à cause du décalage horaire. Il faut vraiment se forcer pour rester au lit ! Les débuts de journée sont d'ailleurs très agréables : très belle luminosité, moins de monde et moins de chaleur. Il vaut mieux se mettre en route "tôt" (vers 8h par exemple) et faire une sieste l'après-midi, pour ensuite reprendre les balades en fin d'aprem.
- je vois que vous voulez faire Horseshoe Bend tôt le matin. La luminosité n'y est pas optimale. Nous l'avons fait après Antelope. OK, il fait chaud, mais ce n'est pas insurmontable ni très long (prenez de l'eau), et aucune partie n'est dans l'ombre.
- vos journées sont plutôt cool et pas trop chargées, c'est bien !
- remarque personnelle : j'aurais plutôt privilégié Moab, région absolument magnifique, à Chinle - Canyon de Chelly - Flagstaff. Vu le temps dont vous disposez, vous pourriez même encore l'inclure en faisant quelque chose du style Bryce - Moab - Chelly - Monument Valley - Page - Grand Canyon

nous il fallait que l'on mette le réveil si on voulait sortir du lit avant 8h.
Rien à voir avec le décalage horaire (quel décalage horaire ? 😇) mais simplement la fatigue du voyage, des randos, ballades etc, et puis l fait d'être naturellement de bosn dormeurs😛... (le pb c'est qu'on a attaqué très fort le premier jour à SFO avec traversée à pied de toute la ville depuis Union Square jusqu'au Pier 39, puis ballade à vélo contre le vent jsuqu'au GGB, et ca nous a cramé pour pas mal de jours 🤪, et quand on a eu récupéré, piétiner à Vegas nous en a remis une couche...)

C'est vrai que nous n'avons rien fait de fatigant du tout du tout. 😇
On avait beau être fatigués, on se réveillait tôt naturellement quand même, et tant mieux d'ailleurs, car je ne vais pas aux USA pour perdre mon temps à dormir le matin. Par contre, on va se coucher relativement tôt le soir, c'est sûr.
La première nuit, on s'est levés à 3h30 ! Et les autres, on était debout à 6h grand max, en pleine forme. A Las Vegas, on a fait l'ouverture du petit-dej du Treasure Island. Les hôtels suivants aussi : on était toujours trop tôt pour le petit-déj 😎. Il n'y a que vers la fin, quand nous étions là depuis une dizaine de jours, qu'on a "poussé" jusque 8 heures. Après, peut-être que quand on reste plus de 2 semaines sur place, je veux bien croire qu'à la fin, on se lève plus difficilement car on a pris le rythme de là-bas.

c'est ce qu'on m'avait dit avant pour moi aussi, mais RAS... Premier jour réveillé à 6h, mais sinon roule ma poule. Presque déçu de ne pas subir le décalage horaire😕
Le premier soir on s'est couché à 5h30 heure française (21h locale), c'est p'tet ca le secret 😉
A Las Vegas, on a fait l'ouverture du petit-dej du Treasure Island
Arf, quand j'ai voulu me pointer au p'tit déj (le truc en face du Starbucks), c'était déjà fermé😊 (on c'était couché à plus de minuit la veille)
Et trop de queue le lendemain donc j'ai choppé un truc fissa au Starbucks
Et le soir, on était claqués à 22h...

c'est marrant de voir à quel point les organismes répondent différemment au décalage horaire. Pour nous, RAS, et c'en était presque décevant 😊
Au retour par contre réveil à 3/4h pdt 2/3 nuits avec rendormissement une paire d'heure plus tard, ce qui fait que ca m'a mis une grosse claque quand j'ai repris le boulot (mais l'avantage c'est qu'avec la fatigue du travail je ne me réveillais plus la nuit 😉)
Et pas moyen de nous coucher tôt depuis 10 jours 😊

Si vs voulez voir MARIPOSA GROVES en sortant du parc par le sud, il ya FISH CAMP qui est à 5 miles et un motel charmant : NARROW GAUGES INN.
L'interet est que MARIPOSA GROVES est tres encombré la journée, et que le matin apres avoir dejeuné, on peut s'y rendre et voir les sequoias sans la foule.
Bon, maintenant je suis indecit😕après avoir vu la scenic 12 CAPITOL REEF........
Il y a une partie de mon parcours qui ne m'intéresse pas c'est le detour par PETRIFIED FOREST.
Car c'est juste pour rallier CHELLY au G CANYON pour éviter de remonter.
Si je passe admettons de BRYCE, par la scenic 12 qui apparament est considerer comme la plus belle route du monde, jusqu'a MOAB et redescendre a M.VALLEY et de plus j'arriverais dans le bon sens pour la vue des pitons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, combien de jours me faudrai't'il donc pour visiter C.REEF, CANYONLAN et MOAB?En sachant que je ne fais pas de randonner.

Alors, je ne sais pas de combien de temps tu disposes, mais tu pourrais faire :
- Bryce - Torrey, 1 nuit à Torrey (le Best Western de Torrey semble très bien et a une piscine - j'y avais réservé mais nous n'y sommes pas allés finalement)
- le lendemain : visite de Capitol Reef le matin, puis direction Moab
- 2 ou 3 nuits à Moab, pour y avoir au moins 2 jours pleins.
- l'après-midi du dernier jour à Moab : descendre sur Monument Valley pour y être en fin d'après-midi (avec crochet par Goosenecks juste avant, et éventuellement Valley of the God si vous partez le matin de Moab).
- le lendemain, direction Page
- Grand Canyon
Tu vois l'intérêt de ne pas se précipiter pour établir un circuit ? 😉

Faut pas exagérer non plus!
Cette route est sans doute très belle, mais perso j'avoue avoir été un peu déçue! Mais sans doute, en attendais-je beaucoup trop , après l'avoir idéalisée à outrance🤪!
Comme te le précise Virginath, Torrey est un très bon choix: tu peux également réserver ta nuit au Bed and Breakfast Skyridge Inn: endroit hyper intime, les chambres sont superbes, vraiment cosy, petit déj extra, et ils ont un Spa (un pur bonheur!)

Du Moooonde, tout de suite les grands mots 😎 On va dire que c'est c'est UNE des + belles des USA déjà.
Cette réputation tient aussi et beaucoup de ses "à côtés" comme Burr Trail, Devil's Garden, Kodachrome Park, Escalante, etc ....
Dans la version "Je roule de A à B sans sortir de la route principale" il reste de superbes points de vue mais malheureusement, pour ceux qui peuvent être décus, si on fait le trajet dans la journée, on ne profite pas des meilleures heures et on se retrouve avec un soleil au zénith et des couleurs un peu blafardes comme sur la partie "blanche" la + spectaculaire de Head of The Rocks.

Il ne faut pas dire un chose pareille, tout est tellement intèressant aux USA, le tout est de suivre ses envies, d'accepter de changer l'itinéraire un certain nombre de fois, de prendre des idées de circuit sur les Tours Operators (eux c'est leur boulot...) tout en les adptants.
Et surtout se dire que tout ce à quoi on rêve concernant les USA ne peut pas être vu ou visité en une seule fois. C'est un pays très vaste, tout le monde le sait, où on roule plutôt bien, même sur les petites routes (et dans l'ouest on y est souvent seul), et parfois il faut savoir s'arrêter pour "déguster" un paysage, rêvasser, contempler ....
Enfin savoir et d'autres l'on écrit aussi que tous ces superbes paysages sont très souvent magnifiés au lever ou au coucher du soleil!!!!!

Je te mets (ça peut t'aider) mon programme pour Moab (mais j'y reste 6 nuits!!) pour l'été prochain. Il faut savoir que Arches mérite une journée entière pour ne pas trop survoler. Canyonlands est découpé en 3 sous parcs: Island In The Sky, The Needles plus au sud et The Maze mais beaucoup plus difficile d'accès. Ne pas oublier Dead Horse Point près d'Island In The Sky.
Quand tu passes à Moab, le minimum à faire une première fois serait: Arches (une journée), Island In The Sky + Dead Horse Point (une journée). Auquel tu peux rajouter un petit truc annexe suivant tes envies (voir mon parcours et le site ouestusa.fr pour plus d'explications 😉)

Effectivement, c'est la plus belle route du monde... quand j'y suis. C'est à dire 3-4 jours tous les 2 ans. Autrement, ça ne reste qu'une des plus belles byways des USA.
Si ça peut aider, voici ce que nous avons fait :
J1 : arrivée vers 16h30 à Moab. Repos, piscine. Dans l'absolu, j'aurais aimé aller voir le sunset à Dead Horse Point, mais les hommes étaient fatigués et il y a quand même une petite heure de route.
J2 : Dead Horse Point, puis Canyonlands (partie Island in the Sky). Piscine à l'hôtel et balade sur la 128 et au Red Cliffs, plus les belles routes du coin.
J3 : Arches, jusque 14h environ. Repas et direction Monument Valley, avec au passage arrêt à Goosenecks.
Je dirais cependant :
- de consacrer une journée entière à Arches (nous, c'était trop court et pourtant, on ne fait pas de rando)
- d'aller voir le coucher de soleil à Dead Horse Point (j'ai adoré le matin, mais le soir, ça doit être quelque chose !)
- que nous n'avons fait qu'une partie de Canyonlands, celle qui me tentait le plus a priori mais aussi la plus facilement accessible, ce qui nous arrangeait.
Sur le même modèle que le nôtre mais en prenant plus de temps et puisque vous logerez au Red Cliffs, ça pourrait donner :
J1 : arrivée à Moab. Repos, piscine. Sunset à Dead Horse Point ou à Delicate Arch
J2 : Arches
J3 : Canyonlands (partie Island in the Sky) + direction Monument Valley
Ou mieux encore :
J3 : Canyonlands
J4 : tranquillos vers Monument Valley
Canyonlands et DHP, ainsi que Monument Valley, sont ce que j'ai vu de plus beau pendant mon voyage. Et j'ai aussi beaucoup aimé Moab. A refaire, j'y logerais au moins 3 nuits pour faire les choses plus cool, mais comme expliqué dans l'autre message, pas forcément au Red Cliffs car trop excentré à mon goût.

pour le dimanche 25 c peu pour une journée... car ce son des visites rapide y a pas vraiment de follie a faire labas tu va prendre plus de temps a trouver une place et que tu l'auras tu devrais soite déboursé 15$ pour un parking soite au parkmetre si tu trouve évidement... rajoute peut etre bel air pour le 25 ;)

En général, il y a toujours deux lits de deux personnes dans les chambres. Effectivement, ne compte pas trop faire d'économies sur ce plan là.... peut-être sur l'avion ? 😛
Vous comptez partir un mois entier ? C'est long quand même (enfin je dis ça, si tu le fais, c'est génial mais bon... c'est long, surtout si tu veux économiser sur le budget... et puis il faudra allonger ton circuit 😛)

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
