Je suis nouvelle sur le forum et je pars en février à Cuba.
Je pense rester 3 / 4 jours à la havanne puis séjourner 1 semaine à Cayo Largo.
Nous adorons la nature, les zones pas trop touristiques, et nous aimons la plongée apnée et bouteille.
Nous partons avec 2 filles de 10 et 12 ans qui aiment également le PMT.
Nous attendons tous vos conseils sur choix d'hotel sur cayo largo, éventuellement bon plan à La Havanne, et spots conseillés sur Cayo Largo.
Le club de plongée est il fiable? Passe t il prendre les clients aux hotels?

Je part pour Cayo Largo dans 4 jours au Barcelo. Je sais qu'il y a une excursion en catamaran qui t'amene à la barière de crorail pour faire de la plongé. Il y a un petit train qui t'amene a tous les matin à la marina et à a la playa sirena qui est plus grande que devant les hotels de cayo largo, car la plage est très changeante d'une journée à l'autre. Pour des vacances de repos et de calme c'est l'endroit idéal à ce qu'il parait !!!

Celon ce que j'ai entendu du centre de plongée c'est qu'il est souvent complet et que pour pouvoir y plonger il faut reserver environ 5 jours d'avances 🤪 De ce fait il faut environ 10 jours pour pouvoir en profiter. Le centre, celon les dires d'un collegue plongeur est bien et il y pas mal de vie a y voir . Petit bémol, le petit train qui vien chercher les plongeurs. Il y a une certaine attente et c'est le train-train 😄
L'esprit de découverte c'est comme un parachute... Ça marche nettement mieux quand c'est ouvert...

Aller voir ce qui est arrivé a Cayo Largo cet automne.
Alors que des centaines de Québécois s'apprêtent à s'envoler vers le Sud pour fuir l'hiver, la mort d'une grand-mère de Mont-Tremblant dans un voyage de plongée à Cuba vient remettre en question la sécurité de certaines expéditions pour touristes.
Nicole Payen, 65 ans, est décédée dans les bras de son conjoint le 2 décembre, lors d'une expédition de plongée sous-marine qui a mal tourné au large de Cayo Largo.
Avec son conjoint Serge Poulin et d'autres touristes, elle était partie en mer, accompagnée par un équipage de bateau et deux maîtres plongeurs d'un club déniché sur place. Ce devait être la première plongée d'un voyage de rêve de 12 jours.
À 15 mètres de profondeur, M. Poulin a vu que sa compagne éprouvait des difficultés. Elle a tenté de remonter à la surface, mais pour une raison inexpliquée, elle s'est mise à vomir avant d'y parvenir.
Pas de bateau en vue
«Je l'ai attrapée et j'ai sorti sa tête de l'eau. Mais le bateau était parti, il n'était pas dans le décor du tout», se souvient M. Poulin.
L'équipage avait laissé les plongeurs sans surveillance pour aller pêcher des langoustes, a-t-il constaté avec horreur.
Balotté par des vagues de cinq pieds de haut, il raconte avoir dû attendre entre 20 et 30 minutes avant que le bateau ne vienne au secours de son épouse, qui ne respirait plus.
«Je l'ai vu s'étouffer, mordre sa langue et mourir dans mes bras», se remémore-t-il avec émotion.
Nicole Payen a été incinérée à Cuba au bout de lourdes et complexes procédures administratives. Ses cendres arriveront au Québec ce matin par avion.
Manque de prévention
Le rapport des autorités cubaines mentionne qu'il s'agit d'une mort par noyade, sans plus de détail. La famille, elle, craint que la négligence du club ne soit en cause. Elle demande à l'ambassade canadienne de faire la lumière sur ce terrible accident.
«Moi et Nicole, on avait fait 250 plongées ensemble dans notre vie. Mais celle-là battait tous les records de manque de prévention», s'insurge M. Poulin.
«Est-ce que sa bombonne a été remplie d'air vicié ou contaminé ? On ne le sait pas. Il y a des choses qu'on ne saura peut-être jamais au niveau de l'enquête, c'est choquant», déplore la fille de la victime, Anouk Poulin.
Mme Poulin trouve inacceptable que les maîtres plongeurs cubains n'aient pas tenté de manoeuvres de réanimation immédiatement et que le bateau se soit éloigné.
Nicole Payen avait une excellente santé et se sentait parfaitement à l'aise dans l'eau, assurent tous ses proches.
Le plus grand rêve de l'ergothérapeute à la retraite était de faire une plongée «sur trois générations», avec ses enfants et ses petits enfants, d'ici quelques années.

Je suis allée à cayo Largo en été...Je ne fais que du snorkeling par contre chaque jour le centre de plongée vient nous chercher en autobus à l'hotel et il y a plusieurs sorties en mer par jour. Moi j'accompagnias les plongeurs à des plongées de moins de 10 mètres....
Moi je n'ai jamais vu le bateau s'éloigné ou repartir.....Il restait toujours 2 personnes sur le bateau durant que les plongeurs etaient sous l'eau...Par contre les homems s'étendaient sur le pont ...je n'ai jamais eue besoin d'aide alors je ne peut me prononcer sur la sécurité.....
Hé oui j'ai déja commencer a perdre mon beau petit teint bazané des vacances 🙁 Le voyage SUPER DÉBILE ÉCEURANT 😮😎!!! Pour ceux qui disent que la plage est changeante, je trouve que devant le barcelo il y avait emplement de plage quand j'y était, mais les habitués m'ont dis que effectivement il arrive que l'eau touche au marche et que l'on ne peut se baigner. La température; durant tout le séjours jamais le soir je n'ai mis aucun chandail à manche longue ou de pantalon long. Avant le souper, je m'ettais du stock à moustique (off) et je ne me suis pas fait achalé par les moustiques (aucune piqure). Pour les plages; je suis aller à la playa sirena et la playa paraiso qui se trouve à 30 minutes en wa-wa du barcelo, mais à 7-8 minutes en taxi. j'étais en vacances donc voir la végétation pour se rendre aux plages ne me dérangeait pas, j'étais là pour relaxer! à sirena, J'ai vu des étoiles de mer que j'ai pris dans mes mains (une photo et hop dans l'eau) car nous devons pas les sortir de l'eau pas plus de une minutes tout au plus car elles peuvent mourir. J'ai aussi fait un petit tour de catamaran inclus dans le forfait. Mais je me suis payé la traite avec le tour de catamaran (l'excursion à 73 cuc) wow vraiment super avec le couché de soleil et un souper à la langouste (vraiment géante quand ta jamais vu sa), avec cette excursion nous avions un 45 minutes de plongé en apnée... mais les coraux ne ressemble pas a ceux en vrai plongé, mais les poissons il y en avais de toute les sortes car il donne de la nourriture avant la plongé. Je pourrais encore en parler des heures et des heures de ce voyages tellement c'est inoubliable, mais je vais répondre a ta question.
Tu posais des questions concernant la plongé. J'ai connu un couple là-bas qui sétait inscrit je crois avant le départ et il avait réussi a avoir que 3 jours de plongé durant leur séjours. Mais une journée il se sont présenté au quai avec tout leur matériels au cas ou il y aurait une cancellation et il ont été chanceux car il y a 2 personnes qui ne se sont pas pointé alors pour leur 7 jours de vacances ils ont eu 4 plongés. Pour plus de renseignements tu peux p-etre demander a beausil sur l'autre forum que javais fais sur le barcelo cayo largo, car c'est sa fille et son conjoint qui sont allé ! et ils nétait pas a leur première plongé a cayo largo.

D'après tout ce que j'ai pu lire sur le forum, je crois que nous allons aller tous les jours à playa Paraiso et Sirena... Est ce que le wawa passe à heures régulières. Il y a toujours de la place?

Pour la température, je te suggere de regarder la météo de cayo largo avant de quitter car pour mon cas cétais extra pour le soir, mais 2 semaines avant qui j'y aille, meme le jour ils se promenait en manche longue !!! a faire attention, car c'est cuba et s'est tres changeant à cette période d'une année à l'autre. Pour les plages, il y a le wawa (gratuit et inclus dans le forfait) passe a l'hotel a 9h, 10h30 et 11h30 ... et il repart de la plage vers les hotels a 1h30, 3h et 5h ... (ces heures sont pour le barcelo) il est très ponctuel en passant !!! n'arrive pas trop en retard car tu risque de le louper, et te payer un petit tour de taxi (a 3 on a payer 2cuc chacun). Pour la place dans les wawa, moi sa ne m'est pas arrivé d'attendre au second wawa. sa dépend surtout de la plage devant l'hotel. les gens décident de resté a l'hotel quand la plage est belle, donc beaucoup de place dans le wawa ! moi sur 7 jours je suis aller une fois a paraiso et 2 fois sirena car la 1ere fois je n'avais pas été pour les étoiles de mer (en passant elle se trouve a 15-20 minutes de marches vers la droite (quand t'est sur la plage)). Mais sa vaut le détours pour voir ces petites merveilles de la nature! Le reste j'étais a la plage devant l'hotel a m'amuser dans les vagues! (que 2 jours drapeau rouge, mais j'y suis aller quand meme!). quand il vente, c'est les algues qui sont dérangeante un peu car elle se font brassé par les vagues, mais sinon la mer cétait super les autres jours !

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.
Are there any good options in July-August for great experiences in the area?

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...
I’m planning to get back into the bubbles somewhere this year.

I’d like to go jet skiing, either in Phuket or Koh Samui, but I’d need at least two jet skis since there are three of us. Can my 16-year-old ride alone? We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

I’m traveling with a buddy, and we don’t really want to spend all our time moving around, so if you have recommendations for one area that’s better than others for diving, that’d be great!
What do you think are the best diving sites? (I’d appreciate an overview of the country so I can decide based on that.)
Compared to my buddy, I love macro photography (nudibranchs, etc.), so I’d also love any tips on that.
And completely unrelated to diving, but I’d also like info on places to visit (national parks, reserves, etc.) to see the local wildlife.

With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?
Dive centers you’d recommend?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

Any thoughts on the diving there?
So far, I haven’t had much luck with diving—at the Perhentians, it was pretty disastrous with water at 31°C 😵😫
I’d love to find a nice island where I can meet people (locals and travelers) because going from a group of six to solo at the end is going to feel weird.
So I’m open to all tips and opinions. Also, I’d love to hear about Langkawi, and if anyone knows of an island that’s a bit more off the beaten path, that’d be amazing. Thanks in advance, and happy travels to you all!

Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Je pose ma question malgré la situation incertaine actuellement, mais évidemment mon plan de voyage est conditionnel à l'évolution de la pandémie, donc merci de vous abstenir ceux qui me diraient juste de rester chez moi ;)
Donc, je planifie de passer l'hiver au sud de l'Europe, et ou vers les Balkans et j'aimerais savoir si c'est partout de la plongée en eau froide donc avec le drysuit et tout ou s'il y a des endroits qui sont superbes et ou je peux plonger avec un suit plus épais seulement même exemple en février et mars. J'ai lu pas mal ici sur le portugal et malte https://divezone.net/diving/portugal mais j'aimerais l'opinion récente de plongeurs du coin! :)
Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
