Je viens de passer plusieurs mois en Nouvelle Zélande et je compte faire une escale d'un mois en Thaïlande au mois d’août. Je possède un 'Bush Knife" d’environ 25 a 30 cm (C'est comme un gros couteau de chasse a la crocodile Dundee mais version Kiwi dundee^^) dans un étuis avec réflecteurs.
Je me demande si cela posera un problème durant mon séjour en Thaïlande? On voit de suite qu'il n'est pas neuf et qu'il a pas mal servit (je ne sais pas, si ça a une importance). C'est plus un outils qu'une arme blanche mais c'est aussi sujet a interprétations.
Votre exemple me complique encore plus les choses car je possède aussi un couteau suisse et je n'avais pas conscience que ça pouvait poser un problème.
Pas très rassurant tout ça. En revanche a la différence de la personne a laquelle vous faites allusion, je ne compte absolument pas porter de couteau en public. Mon couteau de chasse et mon couteau suisse resteront dans mon backpack toute la durée du séjour. Je pourrai même les emballer si cela change l’interprétation des autorités.

Si la police thaïlandaise arrêtait TOUS les touristes qui ont un couteau sur eux et confisquait ces couteaux ( on distingue très mal d'ailleurs sur l'image le type de couteau : pas de couleur rouge , pas de croix suisse , aucune sensation d'épaisseur ) , imaginez un peu le travail !
Je vis en Thaïlande , je circule , je prends l'avion plusieurs fois par an , je puis vous affirmer que moi , comme mes amis ( je ne parle même pas en bus de ligne : jamais ! ) , si nous avons parfois été contrôlés pour excès de vitesse en voiture privée , JAMAIS celle-ci n'a été fouillée ! Maintenant , celui qui est contrôlé et qui a sur la custode un révolver ou un fusil , n'importe quel policier au monde va se poser des questions !
Donc , exemple d'un couple , femme thaï , en voiture particulière , contrôlée sur la route vers l'aéroport ( cela ne m'est JAMAIS arrivé car là , je suis prudent pour la vitesse , sachant que les contrôles y sont plus fréquents qu'ailleurs ) POURQUOI ? Aucun rapport avec votre cas !
Faites attention nous en présence d'une arme blanche blanche de sixieme catégorie (catégorie D maintenant).
Le port , le transport et la détention sont réglementés en France .
Faites gaffe à la douane en rentrant en France.
Pour le retour en France pas de soucis. on peut tout a fait transporter des armes et accessoires de chasse des l'instant ou on a une bonne raison de le faire, que les armes et/ou couteaux sont ranges dans leur étuis et cachées de la vue du public. De plus, j'ai mon permis de chasse sur moi et de quoi prouver mon activité de "ranger" en NZ. C'est parfois un peut long a expliquer mais ça c'est toujours très bien passe en France.
Pour la Thaïlande, il semblerait a lire les autres commentaires que ça dépend un peut sur qui on tombe et ou ... je pense que je vais les garder dans mon sac en toute discrétion et si j'ai un problème lors d'un contrôle, j'essaierai d'expliquer la raison de leur présence dans mon sac ... j’espère que la police est aussi sympa en Thaïlande qu'en NZ ^^

-Importation restreinte (déclaration obligatoire). Peu de contrôles à Suvarnabhumi (scan et fouille), à la tête du client.
-Interdiction totale en lieu public et rassemblement.
-Le pays est en gros sous loi martiale: en plus de contrôles de personnels de sécurité (galeries marchandes, transports en commun), contrôles possibles à tout moment par les militaires.
Dans tous les cas, estimation "sui generis" c'est à dire suivant le contexte.
Perso c'est un risque que je ne prendrais pas.
La Thaïlande en temps normal, c'est déjà le règne de l'arbitraire.
En plus, même si la loi martiale a officiellement été levée, l'armée est toujours au pouvoir et ce n'est pas des rigolos, tu te retrouves en taule sans très bien savoir pourquoi et c'est pas du 5 étoiles.
A toi de savoir mais le risque potentiel est assez grand à mon avis.
c'est pour les transports aeriens que je m'inquièterais plutot.
La première fois que j'étais allé en Thailande j'avais acheté un énorme couteau genre Rambow une énorme lame éguisée d'un coté et avec des crans de l'autre, j'ai cru qu'on allait me le taxer ou me le voler, je me suis juste fait braquer gentiment à Moscou aupassage au scanner, enfin comme j'avais prévenu juste avant, ils ont bien ri et se le sont passé et se sont amusés avec... Par contre à l'époque c'était encore la guerre froide et tendu à Moscou, finalement ils avaient été réglos et me l'avaient rendu à Paris mais sans m'interroger un peu fermement.
Je le ferais plus de nos jours avec les règles de sécurités dans les avions, la Thailande ce n'est pas aller aux US mais quand même, la dernière fois ils m'ont taxé mes belles paires de ciseaux sans jamais me les rendre...
Mais pas d'illusion ça apparaitra forcément au scanner.
Je sais pas combien ça peut couter aujorud'hui en Thailande, à l'époque ça vallait une bouchée de pain, j'ai regretté longtemps de n'avoir pas acheté aussi les genre de sabres sur ce marché de BKK, tout ça parce que le vendeur me le vendait trop cher, enfin trop cher au regard des prix qu'auraient payé un habitant. la reponse est implicitement dans la derniere phrase: deja en temps normal, et encore plus avec l armee au pouvoir et les tensions qui dureront au moins jusqu a la fin du regne de roi actuel, si tu ne veux pas risquer de te faire confisquer tes précieux (et aller gouter au passage les geoles thai), laisse les chez toi.
si tu es trop en manque, tu pourras acheter sur place, il y a des engins à des prix ridicules (souvent de qualité correspondant au prix) partout jusque dans les trous perdus de province, il y a des artisans metalurgistes sur tous les marchés paysans, il y a parfois des artisans qui font des merveilles au milieux de nulle part (vu de superbes couteaux en acier damassé en isan sur le marché de khalasin je crois). Tu trouveras de la qualité a bangkok et dans les gros bleds, y compris de l importation, couteaux d artisans allemands et japonnais vus sur sukhumvit.
Mais comment laisser un truc chez soi lorsqu'on n'y est justement pas encore rentré, chez soi ?
un truc tres pratique pour voyager leger sans se priver rapporter souvenirs/cadeaux et en se debarassant au fur et a mesure des trucs inutiles/compliques/penibles a transporter (vetements, accessoires...): la poste
un autre truc pour ses precieux couteaux: je profite du bagage soute compris avec quasiment tous les vols transcontinentaux, mais arrivé à mon escale principale (en thailande par exemple), je choisi mon premier point de chute a bangkok pour pouvoir y laisser mon gros bagage en consigne et pour ne me balader qu avec un bagage cabine, moins d attente dans les aeroports, plus de souplesse dans les deplacements de tous les jours

ca me sert a apporter des cadeaux, des accessoires dont je ne me sert pas tout le temps (vetements pour le froid, accessoires de plongee, paire de chaussure de secours vu que je chausse du 48...) et a rapporter des souvenirs, des cadeaux au retour, eventuellement des trucs qui ne passent pas en cabine... ca fait des economies sur les paquets postés

Essaie au moins de trouver une boite ou un genre de coffret pour ranger ton couteau. Genre cadeau.

Suivant ton comportement ou ta tenue vestimentaire et surtout le lieu (ksr), il est peut-etre possible qu'un policier te demande d'ouvrir ton sac, pas pour trouver un couteau mais plutot de la drogue.
Tu risques plus d'avoir des ennuis avec une cigarette electronique et des petites flacons d'aromes, ainsi qu'une chicha de voyage dans ton sac a dos !
Si ca t'arrive, profil bas et montre quelques photos de ton sejour en Thailande, qui pourrait prouver l'emploi d'un tel couteau !

The flight I’ve spotted: arrival at BKK and return to France 31 days later.
With the new regulations/visa:
"Starting September 15, 2026, French nationals holding an ordinary passport will be able to stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism purposes only, down from the previous 60 days."
How do you think the counting is done?

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I’ll explain my situation.
Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me.
First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason.
So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then.
I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic.
Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long?
This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border.

I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I’ve tried my hotel, the Lotte Hotel (which is well-known in Seoul), the airport—basically, I’ve entered at least 20 addresses, all rejected....

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. Does anyone know why this is happening, or maybe they don’t accept Visa cards? Are you aware of this?

I’ve read that China may ask for proof of exit within 30 days (flight ticket or other reservation). Since we’d be leaving by land, I’m wondering how this works in practice.
