Après quelques séjours aux etats unis, nous n'avons encore jamais mis les pieds au yellowstone... il va falloir que ça change 🙂
Après un court séjour cette année au Brésil et avant notre séjour de cet été en Afrique du sud, je commence deja a regarder ce qu'on pourrait faire a l'été 2020... même si on ne connait pas encore nos dates de congés..
Pour cette prévision de voyage, nous aimerions découvrir, enfin, le yellowstone et j'aimerai aussi découvrir la californie du sud alors je me suis dit.. pourquoi ne pas combiner les 2..
Nous disposons généralement de 3 semaines de congés l'été..
Cela pourrait donner quelque chose comme ça :
Jour 1: arrivée à los angeles. Nuit à los angeles
Jour 2: route vers palm springs, . Nuit à palm springs
Jour 3: découverte du parc de Joshua tree. Nuit à palm springs.
Jour 4: traversée du parc anza Borrego et nuit à San Diego
Jour 5: San diego
Jour 6: san diego
Jour 7: route vers Los Angeles, nuit à los angeles
Jour 8: universal studio ( pour ma fille!, car nous l'avons déjà fait il y a quelques années) puis vol en soirée vers salt lake city.
Jour 9: route vers yellowstone (ou vol SLC si pas de vol la veille.).. Nuit à west yellowstone ?
Jour 10 a 13: 4 jours pleins a yellowstone
Jour 14: route vers salt lake city. Nuit à salt lake city
Jour 15: vol vers ?? La ca se complique, je ne sais pas comment finit le circuit... soit retourner à los angeles ou aller vers denver...
Peut-être l'opportunité des billets d'avion aideront à choisir.. ou alors vos bonc conseils !!!
Nous avons déjà fait le secteur de moab.
Que pensez vous de ce projet??

A la fin de Yellowstone, pourquoi une nuit à SLC?
Il me parait préférable de rouler jusqu'à Denver et d'en repartir; il y a plein de choses à voir sur ce trajet.

Et pourquoi pas rester plus longtemps à yellowstone ? J'y ai passé 2 fois une semaine (en 2007 et 2018) et encore pas eu le temps de profiter de tout...
Ça te permettra de randonner un peu, prendre le temps d'observer les animaux ou attendre l'éruption de geysers.
Tu peux aussi aller un peu plus au nord par la beartooth highway, c'est magnifique.

je trouve l'itinéraire un peu étrange, j'aurais pas combiné deux destinations aussi opposées. Vous n'avez que 15 jours, je pense qu'il serait mieux de ne faire qu'une des deux. Yellowstone mérite 5 jours pleins en effet, surtout l'été où il y a beaucoup de monde. Les Grand Tetons juste à côté méritent le coup d'oeil aussi, et ensuite, vous pourriez soit partir de Salt Lake City et visiter l'Utah (Arches, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands ou bien Zion et Bryce), soit partir de Denver et visiter le Colorado.

Nous pouvons avoir jusqu'à 20 jours sur place.
Pour l'instant c'est une ébauche et pourquoi 2 destinations opposées... parce que ce sont 2 lieux que nous n'avons pas encore visité 🙂

Alors pourquoi une nuit à SLC au retour de yellowstone.. !! en fait c'est dans le cas ou nous faisons un aller retour France ( départ de Nice) los angeles.. mais il faut que je regarde les tarifs pour un multi destination nice/ los angeles puis denver/ Nice. Mais je regarde aussi les frais d'abandon de voitures.. donc ce n'est pas toujours simple..
cependant il y a parfois de belles offres financières pour aller à LA.. donc peut-être que les offres commerciales vont influencer les trajets😄

Je trouve aussi bizarre de combiner la Californie du Sud et Yellowstone. Pourquoi pas la Floride et Yellwostone ou l'Alaska et Yellowstone?
Si vous y tenez vraiment, je vous conseille un vol direct Los Angels-Bozeman qui vous déposera beaucoup plus près de votre destination et vous fera perdre moins de temps. Sinon je vous conseille de vous limiter à la région des Rocheuses, du Montana et Glacier NP au Dakota et Badlands NP, il y a largement de quoi occuper trois semaines de voyage (et même bien davantage).
Bonjour pour partir de Nice aussi le plus simple , est le moins couteux , sont les vols vers LA et vers Denver en effet SLC reste plus compliqué à atteindre depuis Nice à bon prix .
Autre chose pour 2020 les réservations sont déjà ouverte pour Yellowstone donc il faudrait vous décider rapidement 😏
Après sur 20 jours , je suis plus fan d'une boucle Denver/Denver que de faire deux états si diffèrente. 20 jours c'est le temps que j'ai prit pour découvrir le coin et oui il faut minimum 5 nuits pour bien voir le parc.
Si votre but c'est Yellowstone il faut lui donner la place principal 😉 Je l'ai vue en 2016 et je n'ai qu'une envie y retourner mais avec beaucoup plus de temps afin d'en profiter un max , c'est tellement beau et il y a tellement à voir que je ne pense pas que l'on puisse se lasser .
Si vraiment vous voulez coupler les deux destinations la route jusqu'à Palms Springs n'est pas justifiée dans le sens ou il va faire hyper chaud dans la ville et que les visites de Joshua risquent aussi d'être chaude . On peut , comme on dit : "comment font ceux qui ne peuvent voyager qu'en Juillet/Aout ", mais pour y avoir été fin septembre je n'ose imaginer à cette période. Pour info , fin septembre dans le coin , en 2018 , il faisait encore plus de 33° à 17H🤪
Toujours dans cette optique vous pouvez faire :
- Première partie boucle depuis LA , donc vol NCE/LA
- Vol intérieur LA/SLC
- Deuxième partie boucle SLC et donc vol retour SLC/NCE. Je sais c'est en contradiction avec ce que j'ai dit au début mais cela évite les frais d'abandon et puis sur un vol retour il doit bien avoir des vols SLC/NCE avec qu'une seul escale et à bon prix. Depuis Denver il y a plus de route pour rejoindre Yellowstone et cela enlèverais donc 2 jours pour le reste.
Dans un premier temps , si Yellowstone est vraiment le but de ce voyage , il faudrait regarder les disponibilités dans le parc , et faire les réservations . Pour vous aider , et par rapport à mon séjour , je dirais qu'il faut au moins une nuit sur OF et une sur Canyon et/ou Mammoth après le reste peut se faire depuis West Yellowstone . Je sais que cela engendre de la route , des risques de bouchons , mais WY à l'avantage d'offrir plus de logements , de restaurations et on peut réserver plus tard . Gardiner est plus excentré et on risque de perdre autant de temps que depuis WY et la route est moins agréable , et accidentogène , ^pour rejoindre le parc .
De mon avis il y a de quoi voir autour de Yellowstone pour passer un beau séjour sans rajouter la Californie

Oui pour le Yellowstone, si vous pouvez prévoir un peu plus de temps, ça en vaut vraiment la peine! Sinon, pour les avions, vous pouvez trouver plus proche que Salt lake City : il y a Bozeman (c'est l'option que nous avons choisi l'été dernier) ou Jackson Hole!

Effectivement je pensais faire 2 boucles, 1 depuis los angeles et 1 depuis SLC pour rejoindre yellowstone.
Le problème pour réserver, c'est que je ne connais absolument pas nos dates de congés.
Il nous est maintenant impossible de partir plus de 9 jours en dehors de l'été.. donc faire la californie du sud à une autre période est compliquée. 😕

Oui c'est sur que pouvoir arriver dans un aeroport au plus proche de yellowstone serait l'idéal, mais le prix des hébergements étant élevés, on ne veut pas mettre trop "cher" dans les vols pour compenseront un peu...
ça devient bien cher ces beaux voyages, plus cher qu'il y a quelques années...
Pas sûre que la différence soit significative!
En étant plus près, vous économisez 6h de route à l'aller, idem au retour... Cela fait gagner 2 jours de location de voiture et 2 nuits d'hôtel 😉...

C'est sur mais le fait de partir de ces petits aéroport oblige à faire une escale en plus et pas forcé que les billets soient à bon prix .
En plus si elle fait un vol LA/Bozeman ou Jackson puis un retour SLC/NCE cela ferra des frais d'abandon donc dans l'absolue c'est le mieux mais au niveau tarif des vols je ne sais pas si c'est le plus pratique 😏

En plus en 9 jours on a de quoi faire en Californie , même en restant sur LA . Alors que 9 jours sur Yellowstone on n'a pas le temps de visiter ou voir quelque chose.
Et si un jour vous voulez voir le Mount Rushmore , Devil's Tower ou autre c'est plus simple à caser avec Yellowstone qu'avec autre Road trip.
Autre chose si vous voulez faire les deux secteurs terminé par Yellowstone car après la Californie risque de paraitre fade 😏

C'est sur que si l'aéroport est Paris c'est plus simple un Bozeman/JFK ou autre avec liaison directe Paris et c'est joué 😏
Au départ de Nice il n'y a pas beaucoup de vol directe vers les USA malheureusement d'où ma réflexion et ma proposition

Oui c'est moi qui ai fait un raccourci 😏 Dans ma tête , afin de limiter les frais , le plus simple était de ne faire qu'un vol intérieur ( vol allé simple) avec un multi destination : j'ai oublié ce qui avait été dit sur le premier message .
Donc oui si 2 vols intérieur ( 1 A/R LA/..) un vol vers Bozeman ou Jackson est une bonne idée 😉

Merci. Nous avions aussi évoquer l'idée de Yellowstone - L.A, mais comme nous avions déjà fait 2 fois LA, nous avons eu envie de changer .. . Après, il faut faire en fonction de ses envies, on n'a pas tous les mêmes attentes et mêmes priorités.

Round trip around the area via Flagstaff and Williams, or the Grand Canyon (already done) – we’ll decide on the spot.

Old Route 66 in the city;
Big Texas Ranch Steak 😏.

We’ll adapt day by day based on our mental and physical state (we’re not exactly spring chickens).
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?
We went as a family to Mount Rushmore in 2023, where my son bought a multi-function pocket knife like the one below with his name engraved—'NOAH'.
Unfortunately, he just lost it, and he was really attached to it. So, if there’s a kind soul passing by Mount Rushmore who could bring one back for me (I’d obviously cover all costs), that would be amazing for my son.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

Just a little post that might interest some of you:
Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.
