Je dois me rendre à Ayacucho au Pérou le 12 février prochain, mais j'apprends sur certains sites et dans des articles en date de fin 2006 que cette zone est actuellement risquée, en raison de la subsistance du "Sentier lumineux"... Qu'avez-vous à m'en dire?

Reste que je lis dans de nombreux articles de presse et sites de ministères que le groupe n'est pas entièrement démentelé et que suite à des activités en 2006, il y a toujours un risque de résurgence.

Il reste un petit groupe mais loin d'Ayacucho, plutôt dans la région d'Andahuayllas.
Il y a tout de même longtemps que la population civile n'a pas eu à faire avec eux.
la tête su sentier lumineux est en prison, et une grande partie des victimes imputées au sentier lumineux etaient en fait assassinées par Fujimori
nous sommes allés en 2005 a ayacucho, aucun probleme, aucune insecurité, de meme qu'a andahuaylas

Oui oui je compte aller directement de Lima à Ayacucho, enfin, le lendemain de mon arrivée.
Je sais, je rate sûrement beaucoup de choses, mais je vais en fait participer à un chantier international à Ayacucho, pour travailler avec des enfants dans le cadre d'une ONG.
Quant à cruz del Sur, ma seule exigence est qu'il s'agisse d'une compagnie sûre. Mais qu'as-tu à reprocher au confort de cette compagnie?
J'ajoute la même remarque qu'à Trans : en tant que jeune fille de 20 ans petit gabari légère peu de muscles mais très dynamique bonne vivante, des recommandations quant à l'altitude et le climat?

je ne reproche rien au confort de cruz, je dis qu'elle est chere, et je ne vois pas ce qui justifie son prix par rapport aux autres compagnies.Elle n'a pas moins d'acidents que les autres...

qt a l'altitude, moi qui suit plutot d'un gabarit certain, et d'un certain age, la 1ere année je n'ai eu aucun pbl en randonnant(en autonome) et dormant a 5500m, mais l'an passée en prenant le bus de lima a cerro de pasco(donc pas de marche)ns avons attrape un coup de soroche qui ns a cloue au lit dès notre arrivee a Cerro a 14h jusqu'au lendemain ou ns sommes redescendu sur lima
Enfin, je comprends bien ce qu'est un accident de la route, je voulais savoir s'ils sont fréquents sur la route vers ayacucho, avec Cruz del sur, ou bien si tu parlais de pirates (grrrrrrrrr!) et s'ils sont fréquents sur cette route?

en ce qui concerne le traitement antipalu : non! il n'y a pas de palu au dessus de 2000m!!!
L hépathite B est fortement conseillée, la rage ce n'est que si tu envisage d'aller au fin fonde de nul par pendant plusieurs semaines!
Cruz del sur est une bonne compagnie mais il y en a d'autres qui peuvent être moins chères.
Quand vas tu à Ayacucho? es tu déjà au Pérou?
Je suis à Lima et je pense aller à Ayacucho d ici une semaine, 10jours donc tiens moi au courant
Nous avons séjourné à Ayacucho en septembre dernier. La ville est très sûre et les habitants n'ont pas l'air de se soucier d'actions éventuelles du Sentier lumineux. Nous avons circulé dans la région, avec les transports locaux sans aucun sentiment d'insécurité. Le seul petit problème que l'on peut rencontrer est une manifestations de communautés locales qui réclament leur dû au gouvernement. Cela se traduit par un blocage de routes (et, comme il n'y a qu'une seule route pour Ayacucho...). En général, cela ne dure que quelques heures, forme un énorme bouchon, le tout avec bonne humeur et patience.
Cruz del Sur est la meilleure compagnie, la plus sûre, la plus confortable et la plus ponctuelle. La différence de prix avec les autres compagnies n'est pas énorme et en vaut la peine. Dommage que le voyage s'effectue de nuit.
Pas besoin de vaccins.
Ayacucho est une ville superbe, tranquille bien que grouillante d'animation (moins de trafic, moins de bruit, ...), agréable. La population est accueillante (pas encore beaucoup de touristes) Les environs valent la peine et il y a des transports collectifs qui permettent de se rendre n'importe où.
L'office du tourisme est très efficace et l'accueil y est chaleureux.
Ne manquez pas les sites de Vilcashuaman et de Intihuatana (superbe pour son environnement). Le premier est accessible en bus (compter 4 heures de voyage; pour se rendre au deuxième, il faut négocier un taxi (essayer de se grouper); la négociation est un peu dure (le site est éloigné, la piste épouvantable, .. mais le chauffeur vous accompagne sur le site où il sert de guide et vous ramène. Le conseil est de loger à Vilcashuaman ou de reprendre avec un peu de chance un collectif en fin de journée.
Evitez les agences de voyage, chères, qui font un aller-retour sans passer.

Quant au ressenti par rapport aux compagnies de bus, je me dis que tout dépend évidemment de vos vécus respectifs..

Tout d'abord il convient de savoir une chose: Ayacucho et Andahuayllas furent le berceau du Sendero Luminoso: c'est ici que tout a commencé! c'est pourquoi on y attribue toujours une hypothétique activité de cette nébuleuse. J'y suis passé en 1995 et alors que tous les guides déconseillaient la zone, avec 3 amis nous avons traversé la Sierra depuis Lima jusqu'à Cuzco en passant par ces villes. Et il est vrai que si l'activité avait diminué consécutivement à l'arrestation des principaux leaders, on y sentait une atmosphère de peur...les gens ne parlaient presque pas aux étrangers et le plus dangereux des métiers était médecin: la nuit, des guerrilleros du SL venaient en chercher un pour soigner un frère d'arme blessé au combat sinon quoi le toubib et sa famille étaient assassinés et le lendemain matin si jamais les militaires apprenaient cela il était fusillé pour trahison envers son pays...ou comment être entre la marteau et l'enclume !!!
Ou encore à Andahuayllas, le soir les rues étaient désertes et on voyait des Jeeps avec des mitrailleuses sur le toit qui circulaient avec à leur bord des gars en uniforme noir et cagoulés sans aucun insignes: on ne savait même pas si c'était l'armée régulière ou le SL...
Mais bon tout cela est fini et les derniers activistes sont très retirés dans la sierra et la selva (jungle) et ne rackèttent plus la population car le narcotrafic a pris le relais financier.
Ayacucho est une ville plutôt agréable et ses 33 (?) églises en font une destination (pour toi) ou une étape (pour les autres) assez singulière...d'une manière générale, j'avais bien apprécié cette traversée... cette partie est assez authentique, plus tranquille et donc moins sujette aux dérives qu'entraîne le tourisme de masse
Cruz del Sur est effectivement un peu plus chère mais ma foi ça reste correct et cette compagnie a su se moderniser au fil des années et fait partie des grosses compagnies du pays. Cela dit, au Pérou comme en France l'accident de bus est toujours possible, ce qui fait la différence c'est que la qualité des secours n'est pas la même là-bas.
Vaccination: l'Hépatite B, tu devrais déjà l'avoir...quant à la rage, même si le risque est infime, il ne faut pas perdre de vue que c'est une des rares affections pour laquelle on est sûr à 100% de mourrir !!! sauf à se faire injecter le sérum (après morsure) dans un laps de temps très court, mais on est en amérique du sud, pas en europe... le vaccin (préventif donc avant morsure) augmente sensiblement les chances de survie surtout s'il est suivi de l'injection du sérum (pour laquelle on a donc, du coup, un laps de temps supérieur), les deux étant cumulables. Le vaccin a une validité de 10 ans. Après c'est une question de choix...
Quant au traitement antipalu, effectivement, au dessus de 2000m, pas ou peu de moustiques donc risque quasi nul mais si tu envisages pendant ton séjour d'aller faire un p'tit tour dans la selva (super génial et interessant), alors ça ne sera pas superflu. Le Lariam est préconisé mais renseigne toi auprès de Pasteur Paris car il commence à y avoir une résistance par endroit :c'est un pote qui travaille à Pasteur à Cayenne (en Guyane donc amérique du sud) qui me l'a signalé et les chercheurs travaillent sur un nouveau traitement... à associer de toute façon avec des vêtements appropriés et des répulsifs en tous genres (peau, textile, moustiquaire, ...)
Inconvénients du Lariam: une liste d'effets indésirables longue comme un rouleau de PQ, produit assez fort, assez cher
Avantages: une seule prise par semaine, peut vous ramener en vie
Si tu as un scanner, je me ferai un plaisir de déchiffrer ton carnet de vaccination pour voir où tu en es...Je suis au top des vaccinations car comme je voyage souvent, je suis vacciné en permanence pour tout...comme ça quand je pars, j'ai même pas à me poser la question.
Pour le climat, dis moi quant tu pars?
Pour l'altitude, n'importe qui peut choper le Soroche (M.A.M. ou Mal Aigu des Montagnes)... le gabarit n'y est pour rien...
C'est un peu comme le mal de mer, tu peux t'appeler Tabarly et naviguer depuis 30 ans, ça ne t'empêchera pas d'avoir un jour le mal de mer et puis le lendemain plus rien.
Si ton MAM se limite à des maux de tête, des troubles du sommeil et de la fatigue, ce sont les phases les plus bénines, l'acclimatation devrait suffire à faire disparaître les symtômes, éventuellement aidé par un "maté de coca" : lorsque tu demanderas ça, on t'apporteras une infusion de feuille de Coca, les même qu'on utilise pour fabriquer la Cocaïne mais sans aucun des effets que génère cette drogue... la feuille de Coca agit comme la caféine contenu dans notre expresso du matin, c'est un tonifiant qui a également des vertus digestives et antioxydantes...et c'est un remède connu contre le Soroche bien qu'on ne sache pas encore bien expliquer les mécanismes qui se mettent en oeuvre à ce moment là. Ce qu'on sait c'est que ça marche !!! N'hésite pas à en boire un toute les heures jusqu'à ce que ça passe; ça coute pas cher et ça se boit avec ou sans sucre ;-)
Si ton MAM se manifeste par de très forts maux de tête que rien ne soulage, que tu as des nausées, des hallucinations, qu'on dirait que tu es ivre (et ça n'a rien à voir avec le maté de Coca), que tu as des propos incohérents, que tu as du mal à respirer, un respiration gênée, bruyante ou crépitante, que ta salive est rosâtre...alors c'est une forme aggravée (un ou plusieurs de ces symptômes suffisent à la considérer comme telle) qui ne sera soulagée qu'en descendant à une altitude inférieure et vu ces symptômes, concrêtement, il vaudra mieux redescendre à Lima pour être mise en observation en milieu hospitalier.
Mais je te rassure ces cas sont rares et concernent plutôt des personnes très sensibles à l'altitude ou des alpinistes qui font une ascension en très haute altitude
(PS: je connais un peu le sujet car j'ai un brevet de guide en montagne et j'ai un ami à qui c'est arrivé à Huaraz dans la Cordillère Blanche)

Ah si ! Sais-tu comment réserver des vols intérieurs Lima-Ayacucho avec Lan Peru? En effet, après moulte entretiens, j'ai décidé de ne pas prendre le bus! J'ai trouvé ce genre de vols avec Aero condor (qu'en penses-tu?), mais avec Lan, leur site ne permet apparemment que de réserver des vols internationaux.
😎 Ayacucho est la plus belle ville du Pérou pour moi, les environs sont superbes, ne pas rater Vilcashuman et y dormir. Beaucoup de ballade à pieds à faire là-bas. Cruz del Sur est une bonne compagnie, le trajet est rapide de Lima car il s'agit d'un des rare parcours entièrement goudronné sur la totalité, c'est effectivement dommage que le trajet soit en général de nuit. J'étais à Ayacucho pour la dernière fois en 2005, ambiance sympa et très calme. Parfois, il y a des "faits divers" qui mettent en cause (apparemment) le "sentier lumineux" mais c'est très rare et ce sont des règlements de compte dissimulés sous des prétextes politiques. Mais celà est vraiment très marginal même si la télé (l'horrible télé péruvienne) en fait des gorges chaudes. Un petit bémol, ne pas aller seul dans la zone amazonienne (San Francisco, Sivia etc...), il faut être accompagné par quelqu'un qui connait. Perso, je n'étais pas trop rassuré et l'on me prenait pour un policier "anti drogue" ce qui ne facilite pas les contacts, prudence donc...

I’m planning a trip with my partner (no kids this time—thanks, Grandma!) for two weeks to celebrate her 40th birthday. I’ve been thinking about Chile. We’re looking at leaving around September 18, 2027, starting in the south and returning in early April.
Here’s what I had in mind:
8 nights in a van in the Lake District and the start of the Carretera Austral (up to the Chaitén area). We’re set to arrive in Puerto Montt around 2:00 PM. We don’t want to go too far south since we’re planning to explore the heart of Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) with the kids when they’re older. The idea is to spend 3 nights discovering the lakes (up to Cochamó) and 3 nights in Pumalín Park. I’ve also added two transition nights.
7 nights in the Atacama to experience another side of Chile (San Pedro), taking a domestic flight from Puerto Montt to Calama in the early afternoon. We’ll depart for France in the early evening from Santiago.
IMPORTANT NOTICE for those planning to take a bus to another city, state, or destination from Salvador!
Starting January 20, 2026, the intercity bus station Rodoviária is changing its address!
The Rodoviária is leaving the Iguatemi area and will now be located in ÁGUAS CLARAS (about twenty kilometers from downtown Salvador).
A brand-new station (the most modern in Brazil) has just been set up there, accessible by car/taxi/Uber/metro.
Allow for much more transfer time (especially during rush hours), so leave early if you're heading to Chapada Diamantina or other Brazilian cities by bus.
Remember, there are also private transfers (even French-speaking ones) that can take you directly from your hotel in Salvador to your hotel in Chapada. Sure, it’ll be more expensive, but you’ll save on transfer time and comfort.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.
What do you think of this itinerary? Is it doable in 17 days?

After lots of research and quotes, it’s the only one offering Uyuni at a reasonable price while meeting all the criteria: transfer to the border, private-room accommodation, and a very fair rate. Other agencies or guides either offer shared rooms, no border transfer, or prices that are way too high. But I’d love to hear some reviews about this agency. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?
In France, banks don’t issue credit cards, right—or am I mistaken?

I’m desperately looking for info on the schedules and routes of (shared) boats to visit the islands of Lake Titicaca.
From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?
The goal is to do this tour independently (no agency) over 2 days. Thanks for any tips you might have!
I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.
