Je souhaites partir cet été en séjour linguistique pendant trois semaines, oui je sais c'est un peu tard mais miraculeusement il reste des places au mois d'août. Il reste encore des places avec l'agence EF à Santa Barbara et de même à Los Angeles avec Nacel. J'hésite énormément et en plus je suis balance donc ça n'aide vraiment pas (seuls les concernés comprendrons ahaha). J'ai 20 ans et je préfère un séjour en résidence pour plus de liberté. Je poste un message ici car j'aimerais avoir vos avis objectifs concernant les deux destinations et les deux organismes. Ma première idée était Los Angeles mais l'opérateur d'EF m'a dit qu'on se fait une idée enjolivée de la chose mais qu'il avait été très déçu et que c'était très bling bling et sale. Bon après je sais qu'il a dit ça parce qu'il ne lui restait que Santa Barbara et d'un autre côté je suis réaliste et je sais bien que cette ville a de nombreux défauts, certains endroits sont sales et mal fréquentés et c'est une grosse ville où il est dur de se déplacer sans voiture. Mais après je me dis que j'ai 20 ans et c'est pas pour y vivre mais pour y étudier et passer de bonnes vacances dans un endroit génial et faire de bonnes rencontres.
Concernant Santa Barbara j'ai plus de recul car j'ai lu certains avis qui confirmaient ma pensée, c'est une petite ville très agréable mais petite ville où on a vite fait le tour. C'est un peu comme Saint Tropez, il y a pas mal de retraités (soit disant) et de vacanciers mais pas forcément une ville jeune et dynamique où on peut sortir. Il y a apparemment aussi peu de sites culturels ou historiques que l'on peut visiter, en gros on a vite fait le tour. Alors voilà est ce vrai ou pas ?
Parce que ma pensée finale si je peux dire c'est que : oui Los Angeles ça doit être une ville avec beaucoup de pauvreté, de monde mais c'est un séjour de 3 semaines et j'ai 20 ans donc les choses comme ça ne me dérange pas. Je me dis que là-bas je ne m'ennuierais pas et il y a pas mal d'excursions ou de sorties à faire dans la ville.
PS : San Diego a l'air aussi pas mal... Autant hésiter jusqu'au bout ahah !

La priorité c'est d'apprendre l'anglais, pas le type de résidence, ni la propreté, ni les sorties touristiques, mais plutôt les occasions de parler anglais. Bonne réflexion!

Evidemment que le plus important c'est d'améliorer son anglais, mais il me semble que la destination est importante aussi il ne faut pas se voiler la face. C'est un séjour linguistique donc il y a des cours le matin et tu fais des rencontres du monde entier avec qui tu dois forcément parler anglais que tu sois au fin fond de l'Arizona ou à Los Angeles. Mais l'après-midi on est libre de faire des activités ou excursions ou faire ce qu'on veut et il me semble que si tu es dans une ville où il n'y a pas grand chose à faire et pas forcément très jolie, cela joue un peu sur la qualité de ton séjour. C'est un séjour pour apprendre l'anglais mais autant lier l'utile à l'agréable il me semble. C'est d'ailleurs pour ça que tous le monde se précipite sur New York ou Los Angeles par exemple. Je voulais simplement un avis sur le confort de vie dans Los Angeles et Santa Barbara.
Préfères-tu vivre dans une grande ville ou dans une ville plus posée? Je dirai que ça dépend surtout de ça. Si tu es une personne qui préfère la vie dans une grande ville ou au contraire si tu préfères dans une ville plus petite (quand même 90 000 habitant à santa Barbara).
Pour ma part, si j'étais à ta place je pense que j'aurais pris Santa barbara.
La ville à l'air cool plutôt cool la-bas mine de rien et rien ne t'empêche d'aller un week-end ou 2 à Los Angeles 😛 Si tu avais 21 ans, j'aurais peut-être plus considéré Los angeles car tu as plus d'endroits ou sortir le soir mais vu que ce n'est pas le cas...
Après, mon choix vient peut-être du fait que je suis déjà parti à los angeles ahah. Pour ma part, j'avais passé 10 jours à Los angeles et j'avais trouvé ça assez long mine de rien.

Honnêtement les grandes villes me dérangent après c’est vrai que j’ai 21 ans qu’en septembre (a un mois près...) donc je pourrais pas boire un verre ou sortir. Oui tu as raison je pourrais aller à LA le week end, je voulais aller à LA parce que c’est LA. C’est stupide mais c’est la vérité, les films, les stars et les séries nous donnent envie mais je sais bien que ce qu’ils montrent n’est pas la réalité mais je voulais voir et me faire mon propre avis !

La ville est énorme donc si en plus elle est pas très bien placé, ça peut être chiant car tu peux passer beaucoup de temps dans les transports 😉
Après, l'avantage de Santa barbara, c'est que si tu reviens sur la cote ouest pour des vacances genre avec des amies ou de la famille, je suis sur que tu ne retourneras pas la-bas. Tandis que Los angeles surement 😉
Salut ! Je te réponds bien longtemps après excuse moi. Alors au final j'ai choisi mon séjour linguistique à Los Angeles dans le campus d'UCLA et je pars dans une semaine. Je pense avoir fais le bon choix, je serais parmi des centaines d'étudiants étrangers mais aussi américains et je suis plutôt bien placée dans la ville est bien desservie par les transports en communs. 😉 Je pourrais le faire mon propre opinion sur la ville de Los Angeles en espérant qu'il soit le plus positif possible pour que je profite au maximum de mon séjour 🙂

Juste un dernier petit conseil, si tu peux, essaye de traîner le plus possible avec des personnes non francophones. C'est ce qui te fera améliorer le plus ton anglais. Même si je sais que c'est plus simple de traîner avec les francophones 😉
En ce qui concerne les séjours linguistiques, je suis partie plusieurs fois avec l'organisme EF et tout c'est toujours bien passé!
Je suis d'ailleurs partie avec EF à Santa Barbara en été 2015 et j'ai vraiment apprécié, autant l'école que les cours, la ville la plage, etc.. je trouve que c'était une "petite ville" de la Californie où il faisait bon y vivre!!
Los Angeles, j'y suis allée justement pendant mon séjour de 3 semaines, pour découvrir! J'ai bien aimé aussi mais je n'y suis restée que 2 jours.. donc je ne serai pas trop constructive! :)
Si t'as des questions n'hésite pas! Même pour d'autres destinations EF car j'ai fait aussi Cambridge, Toronto et Honolulu! :)

En ce qui concerne l'organisme de séjour linguistique, je peux recommander Langues Vivantes (basé en France et en Belgique), ils proposent plusieurs formules intéressantes pour cette destination.
Pour donner un exemple, une amie est partie un mois dans une école de langue internationale à Santa Monica, et elle ne l'a pas regretté, les programmes offerts par l'organisme permettent de combiner l'apprentissage avec un large temps libre ou des périodes d'activités pour découvrir ta destination, et en plus, tu as droit à un suivi individuel durant tout ton séjour ;-)

After living for many years in the West (Belgium, Italy, Switzerland),
I’ve decided to return and settle in Cameroon, my home country.
Currently an entrepreneur in real estate and transport, I’m looking for a partner / partners / foundation to collaborate on an agriculture project, as I own 10 hectares of land.
The hectares have remained unused for years due to a lack of financial means, since the project requires what I’d call a considerable investment. As the main stakeholder, I have a minimal contribution to offer.

If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
