Self-guided horse trek around Karakorum

Hi everyone,

A friend and I are planning a trip to Mongolia with the idea of spending a week on a self-guided horse trek around Karakorum. We both have a solid foundation in horseback riding and are used to self-sufficient / survival trips lasting several weeks, so logistics aren’t a major concern for us. That said, we do have a few questions before we get started:

What’s the best way to get from Ulaanbaatar to Karakorum? We’ve already looked into the daily bus, but we were wondering if there are any other interesting alternatives.

Once we’re there, we’d ideally like to rent a horse each. Do you know where we could do this with locals, and what the approximate price might be?

Do you have any route recommendations for a week-long horse trek around Karakorum?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and tips!
