Parking in Westmount neighborhood

Hi everyone, from August 7th to 10th I’m renting an apartment right across from the WESTMOUNT library, next to the park of the same name. The landlord tells me that parking around the apartment is free. Does that cause any issues? I was planning to rent my car before leaving MONTREAL, but I might visit a friend who lives nearby—I’ll only know for sure at the last minute. Thanks in advance for the replies

hi, isn't it Westmount instead? I’ve never heard of that place. But yeah, Westmount is a neighborhood in the city. To find out if parking’s free or not, there must be an app for that. Otherwise, Westmount’s the upscale, well-off part of town. So no real issues there. Even though Montreal’s a very safe city, it’s still smart not to leave anything visible in the car

Hi, The area around Westmount Park is indeed free (there are no parking meters), but be careful because some sections of the streets are "sectorized" (basically, you need a parking permit to park there—it’s specified on the parking sign or indicated as "except for permit holders"). But between us, you’d be better off renting your car only on the day (or the day before) you leave Montreal. Because let’s be honest, if you want to get around Montreal, you’re better off using public transit!!

Hi, do you have any app suggestions?

Hi. Yeah, that’s exactly what I initially wanted to do—pick up the car right when leaving. The issue is I might go see a friend in Belœil, and I won’t know for sure until the last minute. I checked the City of Westmount’s website, and they mention 4 hours free and permits for overnight parking. The guy renting me the Airbnb says there’s no problem.

Hi, Parking apps only cover metered zones, and in your case, if you decide to park your vehicle near your accommodation, you won’t be affected. Just in case, here’s the info for Westmount: Parking and ticket payment | City of Westmount

And since Westmount is administratively "independent" from the City of Montreal (to keep it simple, I’ll say Westmount and Montreal are two different cities), for parking in Montreal, check here: Montreal Sustainable Mobility Agency (look for the parking tab!)

Happy trip planning!

hi, I didn’t know Westmount limited parking to 4 hours. And apparently it’s throughout the entire Westmount area unless otherwise indicated. Maybe in the area where you’re staying it’s not limited to 4 hours (fingers crossed for you!)

First 4 hours free if I understood correctly

hi, As I mentioned earlier, parking in your area is free anyway, but what I didn’t know is that it’s limited to 4 hours!! So basically, if you want to leave your car parked all day, you’ll have to move it every 4 hours! If you’re visiting your friend in Beloeil, rent a car the morning of your visit and return it the evening you get back. There’s also the bus option (Exo line 200 Exo - Line 200 - Saint-Hyacinthe - Longueuil).

Thanks for the info—I’ll look into the bus. On top of that, it’ll cost me an extra $175 to take it 2 days earlier just to leave it parked, even though I’m not paying for parking.

Hi, I really do think that the "public transit" option might be simpler. Besides the bus, you also have the option of taking the commuter train (Exo - Line 13 - Mont-Saint-Hilaire). The stop closest to Beloeil is McMasterville (from the station, either your friend might be able to pick you up, or there’s probably a bus to get to downtown Beloeil).
