Je pars cet été pour un mois au USA pour un stage linguistique. Je souhaite rester en contact avec la France, et je ne sais pas si je vais disposer d'internet dans ma famille.
Chez moi je suis abonné sfr pour internet et j'ai pu voir que dans mon forfait de téléphone illimité, les appels vers les fixes et les mobiles également sont gratuits vers les USA.
Je pense donc acheter un telephone prépayé pour mon séjour, mais j'ai des petites questions :
- Peut-on commander pour le recevoir en France ?
- Plutot quel opérateur : je vais à Los Angeles, je ne sais pas si c'est en ville ou dans la banlieue
- Mes parents ne vont pas payer l'appel donc, mais moi de mon côté, cela va-il être payant de recevoir les appels ? Quelqu'un connait-il les tarifs ?

Oui, on trouve des téléphones prépayés pour 30$ avec 30$ de communication dessus. C'est bien quand on n'utilise pas trop son téléphone, comme moi !
Effectivement, lorsque l'on reçoit un appel ici, on paie. pour info, ça me coute environ 4$ pour 10minutes d'appel reçu depuis les USA. Je ne sais pas si c'est plus cher encore si les appels proviennent de l'étranger.
Si c'est pour appeler depuis les USA et que vous avez un ordinateur, Skype reste imbattable niveau prix... quelque dizaines de cents par minute !
Oui c'est le meilleur plan c'est celui que nous pratiquons depuis l'an dernier et nous allons réactiver depuis la France mon compte Net10 8 jours avant notre prochain départ en septembre
On se sert du Net 10 pour les appels usa usa

Nous partons aux USA pour un mois la semaine prochaine et cette idée d'un téléphone prépayé nous intéresse pour tous les appels locaux...
Vous parlez de supermarché... mais arrivés à New York et passant les trois premiers jours sur Manhattan, je peux en trouver un de supermarché ?...
Personnellement, je ne sais pas si on peut acheter des téléphones dans les épiceries, mais chez les américains rien d'impossible. C'est quelqu'un d'autre qui a dit qu'ils en vendent
Il y a peut-être des chaînes d'épiceries qui en vendent et d'autre pas ?
Saviez-vous que j'ai déjà vu , aux usa , des pharmacies ( drugstore) vendre du vin ou c'était de la bière ? Mais c'était un de ces deux produits. Bon remède........
Après être allée tester la recherche via google, les "groceries" ne m'inspirent guère... j'ai fait le tour de ce qu'elles vendent...pas de téléphones !
Je suppose qu'il me sera plus utile de rechercher des boutiques vendant des téléphones...
Ils peuvent vendrent des accessoires ( téléphones) mais comme ce sont de petit vendeurs , pas les annoncer sur internet . Ils peuvent aussi ne pas en vendre. Comment savoir ? Faudrais demander a celui qui a dit que ces magasins en vendent.
Walmart et Best Buy sont, en effet, très connu pour avoir des téléphones, mais dans les épiceries ? Et puis, dans Mahattan ça pourrais se trouver dans des magasins des plus inusité j'imagine. Suffit peut-être de demander à l'hôtel ou à un policier, bref un habitant de la place.

Je reviens des USA. J'ai acheter un téléphone NET10 LG pour 15$ et 200mn de com pour 20$ . Le gros problème c'est que l'ont ne peu pas téléphoner en france seulement aux USA.
J'ai installer skype sur mon ordi portable et pour appeller les fixes en frances cela coute 6$ pour 1 mois en illimité. Ont peu se connecter a tous les Macdo , Motel 6 et autres
Le monde étrange des forfaits. Moi j'ai Skype depuis 1 1/2 ans . J'ai mis $15 dans leur "banque" tel qu'il me l'on demandé et je peux m'en servir jusqu'a épuisement du $15. Sans limite de temps en autant que je l'utilise au moins une fois au 6 mois.
Actuellement il me reste environ $5
Vérifie si ce n'est pas la même chose pour toi ? Parce que $6 pour 1 mois, c'est vraiment beaucoup plus cher que moi pour le même Skype.
Exact , gratuit d'ordinateur a ordinateur . Mais comme le post original était de téléphonner ( à des téléphones ) je n'ai mentionné que cette utilisation de Skype. Car d'ordi à ordi, FAUT que les 2 interlocuteurs soient devant leur écrans pour recevoir la communication !!!!
Moi, ce que je fais en voyage, avec Skype , j'appelle un téléphone , je m'entend alors avec la personne pour qu'elle allume son ordinateur et on continue la conversation par ordinateur gratuitement pendant des heures....

Oui Skype fonctionne usa / usa je l'ai déjà expérimenté. Et de la façon dont Skype fonctionne cad internet je ne vois pas pourquoi il ne fonctionnerais pas à travers le monde. Sur le site de skype tu as ces informations d'aileurs. Il n'y a que les tarifs ( pour appeler un téléphone ) qui varient avec les pays.
Et dans tous les cas ils sont ridicules.
Le problème avec Net10 l’ont ne peut pas vous appeler de France et beaucoup de zones sans réseaux dans L'ouest des USA quelque soit l'opérateur. Les appels vers les mobiles aux USA sont gratuits si vous êtes chez SFR ou FREE. J'ai utilise messenger ça marche aussi impeccable. Pour les abonnés de SFR ou FREE les communications sont facturer le même tarif que si vous téléphoner de chez vous avec un ordinateur portable ou smartphone wifi, il faut s'inscrire et installer neutalk pour SFR et xlite pour FREE
En ce moment il y a des GPS tom tom xl 330 chez Wal-Mart pour 49 $ .

Messenger est installé d'office sur les PC : Moi je n'y connais pas grand chose, mais j'ai mon cher fils qui a programmé tout cà. Ca marche pas mal, mais on s'en sert surtout pour correspondre par ecrit instantané car on peut faire une autre chose sur l'ordi en meme temps.
La video mobilise plus de temps.

Avec un PC que tu le veuilles ou pas, que tu aimes ça ou pas tu dois toujours bidouiller. Une chance que tu as ton fils. Par contre avec Mac , ça fonctionne bien mieux, tout le temps et en plus c'est plus facile.
J'en entends qui ne sont pas d'accord, vous avez le droit. J'étais comme ça avant , un mordu des PC et haissait Mac , parce que je ne connaissais pas.
IL y quelques années on m'a donné un vieux Mac qui était défectueux. Moi qui devais bidouiller sur mon PC......je me suis amusé à essayer de le remettre en marche. Ai bien réussi. Si bien que mon PC est dans le placard depuis ce temps.
Bref;
Si tu veux économiser à l'achat et te casser la tête par la suite; achète un PC. Par contre si tu veux économiser après l'achat et avoir une machine qui marche toute seule , achète un Mac.

J'ai une fille ingenieur en informatique (qui heureusement s'eclate dans une fonction qui n'a rien à voir) et un geek de fils ingenieur en electronique appliquée.
Ca fait aussi beaucoup de PC, de disk durs externes, etc qui trainent dans la maison.
Nous on essaie de suivre, et on a exigé qu'aucun des 2 n'intervienne sur notre PC perso: un tout simple, sans aucun autre programme que la suite Windows.
Même nous on a attrapé le virus Mon Mari était Ingénieur Électronicien avant sa retraite
Moi j'ai un PC fixe sur le bureau HP sans tour avec la tour dans l'écran il est récent, je me suis acheté un mini PC Hp aux Usa en Mai qui est pour quand on part en voyage J'ai aussi un PDA Palm sur lequel je met mes notes mes Rv et des livres pour les voyages
Mon mari 1PC HP sur son bureau un Ipod un PDA Palm pour , les mêmes usages que moi
Net 10 ne fonctionne que de usa a usa on ne peu pas appeler la france ni appeler ton mobile US de France.
Si vous etes abonner a SFR ou FREE il faut s'incrire a neuftalk pour SFR ou xlite pour Free vous pourrez appeler sur les fixes ou mobiles aux même conditions que depuis votre domicile depuis n'inporte quel région du monde.
Net 10 peux appeler en France il a ont l'option international

Je viens de revenir des USA ou j'ai acheter un Net10 LG 15$ avec une recharge de 200 mn 20$ . j'ai demander a plusieurs vendeur des magasins walmart et ont ma repondu que c'etait impossible de téléphonner a l'etranger et ma famille a qui j'ai communiquer mon N° n'a jamais pu me joindre sur le portable. Je l'avais acheter car je fait de la randonée dans des endroit très dangereux le seul problème aucun de ces endroit n'avais de couverture tel quelque soit l'opérateur même pas la radio.
Impossible d'aller sur le site Net 10 pour avoir des explications ni par telephone SAV ?

Nous n'avons jamais appelé en France avec mais je suis sure qu'on pouvait m'appeler de France car ma fille l'a fait plusieurs fois durant notre séjour en 2009 et mon fils durant notre séjour de 2010
En 2011 comme nous ne restions qu'une semaine on a fait avec les fixe de nos amis pour USA USA et avec Xlite pour la France
En 2012 nous en achèterons un autre ou nous récupérerons le dernier dont se sert mon amie en le rechargeant régulièrement

We're thinking of driving Route 66 from Chicago to LA in fall 2027 or spring 2028 for about a month.
From what I've found, it doesn't exist everywhere anymore, but that's okay! We're happy to take detours along the way. We're open to visiting less touristy or even completely off-the-beaten-path spots.

Hi fellow travelers, do you think there’s a real benefit to spending 2-3 days in Yosemite when I’ll already be spending a week in Banff and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies? Won’t it feel a bit redundant? I’m asking because Yosemite is expensive (I’d go with an agency from SF, staying in a cabin, since I’ll be solo and without a car) and apparently packed.

After that, we’re heading to Sherbrooke to visit our daughter, who’s studying at the university there. We’ll spend 3 days with her, and then, since she has a break that week, we’re taking her along for 3 days in Quebec City.
We’ve planned to visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans.
I’d love to hear what route you’d recommend for the drive from Sherbrooke to Quebec City—we’ll have the whole day to take it easy.

Classic itinerary: arrival in Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, Vancouver Island, departure from Vancouver.
I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?
We’re hesitating between taking the chance or canceling what we still can.
We’re not young anymore and don’t have the flexibility we once did...

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?
Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. For those who’ve done both Lower and Upper, can you tell me if the price difference is really justified? Thanks

As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.
Everything’s booked for September—flights, accommodations, and the car. As I plan, I’ll be asking the experts for help. This is our second trip to California, but most of the stops are new to us.

Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?
