Je pars dans 10 jours en Inde avec agence de voyage. Par contre, mon médecin traitant vient de me prévenir que l'Inde est en alerte paludisme. Logiquement on devrait prendre le traitement anti-paludéen Lariam. Mais au vue de ce que je trouve sur Internet (effets secondaires et tout et tout), je n'ai aucune envie de gâcher le 1er grand voyage de ma vie ! Surtout qu'on ne part que 10 jours en circuit organisé !
J'aimerai avoir vos avis sur ce traitement. Est-il vraiment nécessaire ? Se protéger des moustiques suffit-il ?
Pour 10 jours, en pleine saison sèche, je te déconseille le traitement, et te recommande plutôt une protection contre les moustiques. La période où tu aprs n'est de tout façon pas très propice à la prolifération des moustiques, et le risque est faible.
Si jamais tu tiens quand même à un traitement préventif, il en existe qui ont moins d'effets secondaire que le Lariam.
Ce n'est que mon avis bien sûr.
Si tu veux avoir un conseil médical avisé, consulte un service spécialisé de médecine du voyage...
Bonjour, je suis parti 3 semaines fin septembre 2009 en Inde et j'avais pris du Lariam. Honnêtement, je ne vois pas en quoi la prise de Lariam vous perturbe.
Tout d'abord, c'est juste 1 comprimé par semaine (1 semaine avant de partir, pendant le séjour et 1 semaine après le séjour). Et ni moi ni mon épouse n'avons eu aucun effet secondaire.
Sur place, je le concède, nous avions acheté de l'Odomos, un produit fantastique contre les moustiques et recommandé sur le forum. En plus, il n'est pas cher.

Vous n'avez pas eu d'effets secondaires, tant mieux pour vous, mais d'autres en ont eu, parfois très sévères qui ont gâché complètement le voyage. Le faible nombre de comprimés à prendre n'est certainement pas un critère de choix.

Si on veut vraiment prendre un traitement préventif antipalu (pas nécessaire à mon avis dans le cas de beagn), il existe d'autres médocs présentant moins de risques.
nous avons pris du lariam il y a une dizaine d'années....à chaque fois que nous rencontrions des anglo-saxons, ils étaient effarés que la mefloquine (la molécule du lariam) soit encore en vente en France; effets secondaires catastrophiques : mon cher et tendre peut en parler puisque depuis il "entend des voix" je traduis : il a des acouphènes, un des nombreux effets du lariam.
Mais il y en a bien d'autres : lors d'un voyage au Kenya, une de nos co-voyageuses a fait une crise de panique, persuadée dans la nuit qu'on allait l'assassiner; un médecin consulté a ordonné l'arrêt immédiat du lariam.
Il y a plein d'autres médicaments préventifs contre le palu : savarine ou malarone, beaucoup moins "nocifs".

Voyage organisé + saison sèche --> Lariam ou autre chimie préventive INUTILE.
Au cas où quelques moustiques vous importuneraient, prends une bouâte de mosquitoe coils pour la nuit (et un briquet pour les allumer 😉) et achète sur place un spray Odomos (bon, en voyage organisé tu n'auras peut-être pas la liberté de vaquer aux achats de Odomos, achète donc un spray dix fois plus cher en France 😉). Et basta ! 😛
Et si ton toubib te culpabilise encore avec ça, demande-lui s'il a voyagé en Inde, à quelle période et s'il a croisé beaucoup de moustiques. 9 chances sur dix qu'il ne connaisse l'Inde qu'à travers la presse occidentale 😠 qui en général ne connaît pas plus l'Inde que moi je ne connais le fin fond du Texas 😏 (encore vu hier un reportage sur M6 sur la colonisation de terres en Ethiopie par des compagnies agricoles indiennes --> jusque là RAS mais quand j'ai entendu le commentaire s'apitoyer sur le sort du contremaître indien si loin de sa famille pendant des mois, je me suis demandé s'il était sorti de Auteuil-Neuilly-Passy et je me suis dit qu'il ferait bien de s'immerger dans les lakhs de travailleurs émigrés à Dubaï et autres Emirats, ou en Arabie Saoudite, là il y a de quoi s'apitoyer, mais les Günter Walraff ou les Albert Londres ne courent pas les rues --> et bien c'est pareil pour nos toubibs, rares sont ceux qui connaissent le terrain en-dehors de leur arrondissement).

On part dans le Rajasthan du 4 au 20 avril. On achetera de l'Odomos si on en a l'occasion là-bas mais en attendant, j'ai un répulsif acheté en France (presque 9 euros le truc...🤪! ). Les mosquitoe coils s'achète où ?
Pour ce qui est de mon médecin, il n'a jamais été en Inde. Il m'a juste dit d'avoir pour devoir de nous avertir des risques mais nous a également dit qu'il n'était pas sure de prendre lui-même (ou sa famille) du Lariam.
On ne prendra donc pas de Lariam, la décision est prise !
Mosquitoe coils ou Spirales anti-moustiques. Se trouvent parfois au rayon droguerie (marque Baygon ou autre) avec les tue-mouches. Sinon on en trouve dans les boutiques indiennes (marque Mortein ou autre). Bien pratique pour dormir la nuit si un seul moustique fait bzz bzz au-dessus de nos têtes.

Le Rajasthan est à zone à risque modéré, surtout en circuit organisé (= hôtels de "luxe", selon les normes locales) et hors période de mousson. Crème Odomos impérative quand même...

La situation serait très différente dans le Nagaland (où le touriste en voyage organisé se fait certes plus rare 😉)
Nous partons en Inde du 22 août au 8 septembre. Nous arrivons à Delhi et notre retour en France se fera à partir de Bombay. Notre itinéraire est encore à déterminer.
J'hésite moi aussi à prendre un traitement antipaludéen. Le prix et les effets secondaires expliquent mon hésitation. Mon ami pense qu'on peut se contenter des répulsifs (lessives, sprays, roll on).

Nous, finalement, n'avons pas pris de traitement mais nous nous sommes aspergé d'anti-moustiques. Et au final, nous n'avons pas croisé beaucoup de moustiques. Nous n'avons pas été malade, par contre dans notre groupe, les seules personnes qui avaient pris un traitement ont été malades dont 2 vraiment à la limite de les emmener à l'hôpital. Était-ce du au traitement ? Nous n'en savons rien mais nous n'avons pas du tout regretté d'être partis sans traitement.
Maintenant, il y a des personnes + ou - sensibles mais même notre médecin traitant nous a dit que si il partait avec nous, il n'en prendrait pas... Ça nous a aussi aidé à nous décider. Demande à ton médecin ce qu'il en pense.
Par contre, si tu décides de prendre le traitement, il faut prendre le lariam et pas d'autres anti-paludéen car ils ne sont pas forcément efficace là-bas.
En tout cas, pays magnifique ! On a adoré notre voyage (même si les 2 premiers jours ont été un peu difficile psychologiquement...)
Je pense que je vais suivre tes conseils. Mon ami est confiant. Il n'y a pas de raison et je crains vraiment les effets secondaires des anti-paludéens.

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.

Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.
