For a romantic getaway, Verona (Romeo and Juliet) and Venice with its romantic gondolas

Hi Sandrine,

Verona, Venice, and Taormina are currently suffering from overtourism, and it’s really dramatic—believe me. Why not consider the Langhe (Piedmont), or Trieste (close to Austria, bordering Slovenia, and just a stone’s throw from Croatia via the sea)? Or even Asolo, the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Hills, along the Prosecco route (UNESCO World Heritage, no less). Romantic and pure nature. Great wine and amazing food too. Safe travels and kind regards

Hi,

Thanks for the tip, Koutou. I thought there’d be fewer tourists in April-May. I only have 3 days in Italy. I’d love to enjoy the scenery and the culinary specialties.

Hi Raymond,

I thought Verona and Venice were as romantic as it gets. 😉

Hi there.

I’d lean toward Verona and Sirmione/Lake Garda.

Venice on weekends is a hassle—think cruise-ship crowds arriving and leaving...

Hi there, A romantic weekend in Italy?

Venice, of course! Opt for accommodation inside the city itself—great opportunities around the Arsenale area. Once the cruise passengers head back to their ships, Venice is really lovely in the evening.

Alternatively, a romantic destination with a twist: Lake Maggiore, but watch the weather in April.
