Je rêve du Zanskar. Je marche assez bien, j'ai très peu d'exigence en termes de confort, j'ai déjà voyagé, je vis en montagne (certes moins haute...) Mais je n'ai jamais fait de trek en autonomie seule comme je souhaiterais le faire maintenant. Si vous êtes allés au Ladakh, ou plus précisément au Zanskar, toute information me sera utile... Je pars du 10 mai au 10 juin, je pensais commencer par une semaine ou 10 jours de wwoofing (j'ai trouvé des traces sur Internet d'une super adresse "dans un petit village ladakhi" mais rien de précis... quelqu'un a une idée?) puis marcher. Savez-vous si la grande traversée du Zanskar est réalisable à cette époque? S'il est possible de se loger, même de façon très rudimentaire (mais sans être un poids pour qui que ce soit) sur le parcours? Sinon, avez-vous d'autres idées de treks plus propices à cette période de l'année? Au Ladakh ou dans une autre région himalayenne?

Le Ladakh est en effet une region absolument merveilleuse. J'y ai passe 3 semaines l ete dernier. Bon, perso, je ne ferais pas de wwofing, a part si tu as envie de passer tes vacances a bosser...la vie est tres peu cher la bas et tu peux te loger sans souci sans ca. Apres, ca peut etre l occaz de rencontrer des gens mais mefiance, quasi personne ne parle anglais, alors francais n y pensons meme pas. La communication peut etre tres vite limitee, j ai passee 3 nuits en homestays, on communiquait par gestes...alors 10 jours...
Je suis passe par la chaine du Zanskar mais pas la traversee, pas le temps. J'ai suivi la Kharnak Valley via la Markha. La Markha est tres frequentee en ete et tu trouves sans souci des hebergements sur le chemin. Ca se complique un peu dans d'autres vallees et tu dois souvent porter tes affaires. Nous, on avait un guide Ladakhi ainsi que des mules. Porter 25kg 8h par jour par 5000m d'altitude, c est quand meme pas evident et les deniveles sont importants.
A toi de voir si tu veux te lancer dans un trip autonome mais qui sera exigeant et pour lequel il faut etre TRES preparer, au niveau logistique et de la securite (nous avons passe 4 jours sans voir personne DU TOUT). Si tu casses une jambe ou autre, pas de reseau de telephone, rien du tout...donc bien faire gaffe. A mon sens, partir avec guide et animaux est une solution qui permet d apprecier le trip, de faire vivre les gens et de mieux comprendre le pays.

I’m a volunteer leader at a youth center (MJC), and we’ve been deeply moved by everything happening in Madagascar—extreme poverty, endangered animals, deforestation, and so on. Plus, one of our teens has a Malagasy friend, so our group wants to travel there next year.
Throughout this year, they’ve planned fundraisers to collect donations (sheets, dish towels, schoolbooks, hygiene products, etc.) and funds to cover their trip and stay.
They’re really motivated and generous—they already volunteer in schools and senior centers, and they’re always welcomed warmly.
But so far, they haven’t found any organizations in Madagascar willing to host them for two weeks (orphanages, schools, animal protection parks, etc.).
Does anyone know of any contacts, please?

After 8 months of volunteering in Tanzania at a center for street children, I’d like to go back for a year in the same kind of role—this time in Burkina. We currently have 2 wheelchairs that we would like to give to our partner, the Benin Handisport Federation. If you're traveling to Benin, alone or with someone, we could give you one of these 2 wheelchairs (or both). Out of the 40 kg of luggage you're allowed, a wheelchair will only take up less than half. Our partner can pick it up at Cotonou Airport...

Hello, we’d like to travel as a family to Madagascar (2 parents, 2 kids aged 10 and 12). A first trip over 15 years ago completely amazed and moved me with its beauty, kindness, and life experiences—but also its poverty and hardship. That’s why I think it’s possible to introduce our kids to this island while also doing something useful through volunteering. The window is short—15 days in March 2020—which means avoiding the north and east of the island due to cyclones and focusing on the south instead. Some ecovolunteering projects exist online, but the cost is sometimes prohibitive, and kids are rarely accepted. Do you have any ideas or contacts? Thanks in advance!
