Hi there, we’re planning an Adriatic cruise in September 2025 on CFC’s Renaissance ship—we’ve already sailed with them four times. For this new cruise, when entering passenger details, we’re asked to check the box “I have taken out insurance,” which is the first time this has been required. For recent sailings on the CFC Renaissance, did they ask you for an insurance certificate? Thanks

L’itinéraire était alléchant, et nous avons décidé de faire cette croisière avec des amis. Cela nous permettait par ailleurs de découvrir cette compagnie qui propose beaucoup de croisières fluviales dans une ambiance francophone. Le bateau n’affiche que 3 étoiles, nous savions que nous n’aurions pas le même confort ni les mêmes services qu’habituellement mais nous l’acceptons. Il faut dire que le prix est de la moitié d’une croisière avec Ponant dans le même secteur.

Dès la réservation cette compagnie n’est pas comme les autres. Et effectivement nous apprendrons plus tard que Rivage du Monde n’est pas un armateur mais uniquement un prestataire de services.

Elle fonctionne d’une façon un peu passée, révolue ou arriérée, au choix. Les renseignements sur la croisière, les excursions et le bateau sont sous forme d’un PDF très succinct. Les documents, devis, facture sont envoyés par la poste.

Pas de compte personnel sur le site de la compagnie, pas de fiche-passager à remplir, pas d’enregistrement ligne.

Quinze jours avant le paiement du solde je reçois la facture avec son lot de surprises, il faut renvoyer les coordonnées de sa carte bancaire par courrier (tiens donc, pourquoi pas ?), ou payer par chèque.

La mauvaise surprise est une surtaxe carburant. La bonne, nous sommes surclassés de la catégorie 3 à la catégorie 7, nous passons du pont 6 au pont 4. Les informations étant très insuffisantes je ne vois pas quels seront les avantages de ce sur-classement. J’ai failli réclamer et demander à garder la cabine que j’avais choisie mais j’ai lu à ce moment dans certains commentaires que les cabines du pont 6 étaient à éviter en raison de forts grincements… je n’ai rien dit.

La réservation des excursions, à payer en même temps que le solde, est fortement conseillée avant le départ. Elles se réservent en remplissant une feuille A4 après avoir lu le descriptif de 3 ou 4 lignes, sur le PDF. La durée de l'excursion, l'heure de départ, ne sont pas indiquées. Aucune information concernant les débarquements, à quai ou en chaloupe ?

Le bateau. Le MS Astoria est plus vieux paquebot du monde. Construit en 1948 il a commencé sa carrière comme paquebot transatlantique jusqu’en 1960. Souvent restauré il a gardé un côté bateau à l’ancienne et vintage... dit la pub. Finalement pas si vieux que cela d’apparence tant il a été modifié et réaménagé. Seule sa cloche d’origine demeure dans une vitrine. Son look ancien est plus visible à l’extérieur qu’à l’intérieur. Les ponts extérieurs sont spacieux, très bien pour la navigation touristique. Il n’y a pas trop de passagers pour la taille du bateau. A l’intérieur il n’est pas très moderne ni très beau, mais reste correct. Une bonne surprise, il a mieux tenu la mer que nous l’imaginions.

La cabine est désuète et petite comme nous nous y attendions, pas de bureau, pas de canapé et deux sabords qui la rende très lumineuse. Bien pourvue en meubles de rangements neufs, il y a même un réfrigérateur. La salle de bain serait spacieuse, si elle n’avait pas de bidet. Le lit est pourvu d’une planche en guise de sommier mais le matelas est de qualité et nous avons très bien dormi toute la croisière. Il ne faut pas regarder de trop près les détails des finitions mais c’est globalement mieux que ce à quoi je m’attendais. Au pont 4 la cabine grinçait un peu la nuit mais cela ne nous a pas gêné. Les cabines sont de différentes tailles sur le plan, dans la réalité elles ont la même surface.

A noter, la drôle de couleur de l’eau chaude.



Le buffet est tout petit avec peu de choix et des plats très basiques et ordinaires. Quelques salades mélangées industrielles, un peu de salade fraiche-crudités et de la charcuterie. En plat principal poulet, porc, hachis quelconque, ou poisson au choix. Ensuite patates, riz, pâtes, ou légumes vapeur (toujours les mêmes). En dessert, pâtisseries de diverses couleurs sans saveur ou salade fraiche de melons et pastèques. C’est le triste menu unique pour toute la durée la croisière au buffet. A noter que le buffet n’ouvre que 2 heures par jour le midi et une heure dans l’après-midi pour un petit goûter.

Thé, café et eau sont disponible toute la journée.

Le restaurant, la table est soigneusement dressée et jolie mais les repas ne sont pas beaucoup mieux qu’au buffet. Le « filet de bœuf en croute » est proche du pot-au-feu longuement bouilli puisqu’il s’effiloche aussi facilement (pour une viande demandée bleue ou à minima saignante). Le « velouté d’asperges » est en réalité du potage aux poireaux avec du « foin » qui craque sous la dent. La poire belle Hélène, ou les profiteroles ne sont que de tristes parents très éloignés et très maigres de ces desserts connus. Et ce ne sont que quelques exemples…

Les boissons sont comprises aux repas, eau plate ou gazeuse en bouteille, vins blanc, rouge, ou rosé, café, thé, tisane.

Le bar, les serveurs sont gentils mais sont bien loin d’avoir la classe et le savoir faire que l’on rencontre sur les autres compagnies de croisière. Nous avons voulu tester les cocktails, mais une seule fois seulement. La margarita était chaude, au citron chimique en bouteille, sans glace et sans sel. La Caïpirinha était marron ! Et un peu plus tard nous nous sommes aperçus que dans le Singapore Sling, ils remplaçaient le Champagne par du soda !!! Tout un savoir-faire !!!

Les conférences étaient très appréciées. Pratiquement tous les passagers suivaient assidûment les exposés des deux naturalistes.

Les animations musicales étaient de la variété française, bon-enfant et sympathique le plus souvent. Un peu de musique classique, musique de chambre triste à s’endormir. Rien à voir avec les pianos et les violons connus ailleurs... (Princess ou HAL)

Les spectacles. Avec des moyens très réduits les danseuses et le danseur faisaient de leur mieux. Les tenues très dégagées sur certaines parties choisies de l’anatomie des filles étaient la règle pour tous les thèmes.

Les « gilets rouges ». L’ambiance à bord était plus proche de celle d’un comité d’entreprise que de celle d’une croisière. Beaucoup de personnel pour tenir le bureau des excursions, assister et surveiller les passagers lors des escales, ou faire office de guides pendant les excursions. Ces « gilets rouges » se comportaient à bord comme s’ils étaient en colonie de vacances, ils passaient du bon temps et se réunissaient le plus souvent possible pour rire et s’amuser. Ils n’hésitaient pas à lever les yeux au ciel dans le dos des passagers. Mais les « Cheftaines » devenaient très autoritaires et directives quand elles s’adressaient aux passagers.

Un soir notre ami a interrogé un « gilet rouge » sur l’horaire de l’excursion du lendemain. C’était une donnée très secrète impossible à obtenir (j’en reparlerai). Ce(tte) « gilet rouge » lui a répondu qu’il (elle) ne lui dirait pas parce que de toute façon d’ici le lendemain, il aurait oublié. Cela montre toute l’estime que « ce » personnel a pour les passagers.

A noter aussi que parmi les passagers il y avait un monsieur en fauteuil roulant. De toute la croisière il n’a pas pu descendre à terre. Personne n’a jamais voulu aider sa femme à le débarquer.

Ma perception de cette croisière résulte inévitablement de mes autres expériences passées. Des passagers partageaient mon avis, mais d’autres étaient totalement satisfaits de tout et trouvaient bonne la restauration. Ils ont aussi avalé innocemment toutes les mauvaises excuses, cuisinées à la sauce sécurité, qu’on leur a servies, sans se poser de questions, tranquillisés et ravis que « tout » soit fait pour « leur sécurité », le plus important n’est-ce-pas ?

A suivre, les escales et l’organisation, encore plus pitoyable que l’hôtellerie…

Hi everyone! I’m used to sailing on a sailboat with two or three people—it’s amazing. But I’d love to try the experience of a cruise. Just to clarify, I’ll be going alone. My first question: are there other solo travelers on these cruises, or is it mostly couples and families?

For a first cruise, I’d prefer a short one (maximum 8 days). Do those exist? And on the smallest boat possible. I live in Marseille, so a departure from Marseille would work, but I’m open to other ports too. If you have a cruise line to recommend and a destination you’ve enjoyed, or if you’ve had a great experience on a more intimate-sized ship, I’d love to hear about it!

Hi everyone, I was supposed to go to Greenland in 2020, but—Covid! Then, health issues. This time *has* to be the one. I’m going on a small cruise on the *World Explorer*. So, depending on my physical abilities, I’d love to visit the Icefjord from Ilulissat. Do any of you know if there’s a way to get there by vehicle, off the main paths? If not, what particular challenges might there be on foot? I think it takes about 45 minutes? Thanks for your help, have a great day!

Hi everyone, I’m back from my 10-day cruise to Japan and South Korea and wanted to share my experience. Before leaving, I searched the forums but found very few firsthand accounts of this kind of trip.

Just so you know, a cruise isn’t some slow, easy trip—every port stop is an adventure!

We flew from Marseille with Lufthansa via Frankfurt, with a short 1.5-hour layover that was just enough, though we still had to sprint to make our connection. We’d booked seats with extra legroom, which was great—we were next to premium economy, so we had a good spot. The airline hadn’t sold all the premium seats and kept making announcements to attract takers, but no discounts!

After about 12 hours, we arrived at Tokyo Haneda feeling pretty wiped since we hadn’t slept. The time difference is 7 hours, so we landed in late morning in Japan. We took the free rail shuttle to central Tokyo. The entry process went smoothly thanks to the Japan web app. For the subway, we’d registered our Suica card, but we hadn’t anticipated how tricky transfers could be when stations don’t always have elevators—bit of a hassle, but still cheap! Navigating the subway is super easy, though. We’d bought a SIM card on Amazon beforehand, so everything was smooth.

We’d booked a room at the Grand Hazelmon Hotel, which is near the Imperial Palace. It’s a quiet business district in the evenings and well-connected by subway.

I’d opted for a half-room, so I was worried about space, but it was fine—no smaller than a London or Paris hotel room! Breakfast was included and really good.

We even had dinner there one night—dishes were around 9 € at a 4- or 5-star hotel, so we didn’t hold back.

In the afternoon, we visited the Imperial Palace. You can’t go inside, but it’s a green oasis—surprisingly peaceful despite Tokyo’s 36 million people—and very secure.

The agency we asked to handle the cancellation informed us that, since 17/05/25 and the new general terms and conditions of sale, the cancellation fees more than 60 days before departure amount to 100 € per person. Hi there, I’ve put a deposit down for the Norwegian fjords cruise on the Preziosa in August 2025. I didn’t go for the drinks package at 1300 € for two for fifteen days—it seems a bit steep, especially since I don’t drink wine, just a few cocktails, and no fizzy drinks like Coke or Fanta. Could anyone share the drink price list on the ship, please? Also, I couldn’t find the prices for the excursions on this cruise, just the descriptions. We (a family of two adults and two kids) are going on our first cruise this August on the Costa Esmeralda. To make sure everything goes smoothly, I booked a suite. I have a few questions to prepare well and I’m definitely open to any tips.

I read that a restaurant is reserved, specifically the Bellavista. What confused me a bit is that I saw others mention the Panama. I’m pretty sure it’s the Bellavista, especially after checking the ship’s layout.

About this restaurant: - Is it accessible on embarkation day, say around 1:30 PM? - Same question for when we return from excursions around 1:30 PM

I’ve done my research otherwise, but I’m still open to any advice.

Hi everyone, After several cruises with Italian companies (MSC and Costa), we want to try something different. We’ve roughly selected the same itinerary (the Greek islands, Croatia) and we’re torn between three ships: the Voyager of the Seas, the NCL Breakaway, and the Celebrity Ascent. In your opinion, which one should we choose? Note that we’ll either be in an interior or ocean-view cabin at best, since balconies are way too expensive for our budget. We’re also looking for activities for our teens (13 and 15 years old)—shows, entertainment—and most importantly, something that sets these ships apart from MSC and Costa. Thanks in advance!

After Anse Intendance, we head to Police Bay, located at the very southern tip of Mahé. Swimming and snorkeling aren’t ideal there (lots of waves)—just for the view!









On the way back, we stopped to visit some "typical" Seychellois houses, including one of the oldest.







We got back to the port around 6:30 PM, with memories filling our heads.

We were really happy with this day, and our guide/driver was exceptional! We even gave him a nice tip.

I came across a (really interesting) cruise on the Mein Schiff 4, and apparently, no French agencies sell Mein Schiff cruises. After several searches online, only Wondercruises and Seascanner work with them.

The advantage of Wondercruises is that they’re partners with "Flying Blue," and you can earn miles.

I love a good challenge, so why not try out this company—it seems pretty solid!
