Main Cities

Camagüey, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Ávila, and more—the central region is home to quite a few towns and cities of varying sizes.

Tourist Attractions

Cities and Their Heritage

Most of the region’s cities date back to the Spanish colonial era, complete with the accompanying heritage. This makes some of them, especially those listed as UNESCO sites like Camagüey, Cienfuegos, and Trinidad, quite popular tourist destinations.

Beaches and Coastline

The Cayos are small, low-lying islands typically made of sand and coral. The long Sabana-Camagüey Archipelago, running parallel to the northern coast, includes over two thousand of them, with a few becoming hotspots for all-inclusive tourism. On the southern coast, the areas around Trinidad, particularly the Ancon Peninsula, are renowned for their beaches.

Nature and Activities

A few natural sites in the central region are worth visiting, including the Laguna de Leche, the Topes de Collantes Nature Reserve, and, to a lesser extent, the Valley of the Sugar Mills.
