Entry Requirements and Visa for Brazil
Location Map of Brazil
People.
For French Citizens
For tourist travel, no visa is required for stays of up to 3 months within a 180-day period. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your entry date, and each traveler must have a return or onward ticket.
Note that the yellow fever vaccine is generally mandatory for travelers arriving from French Guiana, as well as from several other South American countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, or Venezuela.
Other Nationalities
The same rules apply to Canadians, Swiss nationals, citizens of the European Union, and a few other nationalities.
Long Stays
Since 2024, Brazil has changed its legislation regarding extensions for stays exceeding 3 months in the country. Previously, it was possible to request an additional 90 days, but this is now generally no longer allowed. In practice, you must leave the country to "reset the clock," while keeping in mind that you cannot legally stay more than 6 months per year in Brazil.
In Case of Violation
Brazil follows similar rules to many other countries. Specifically, you may face a fine calculated based on the number of overstayed days, at a rate of approximately 20 € per day. In more serious cases, there is a risk of deportation and a future entry ban.
Vehicles
An option primarily for those arriving from French Guiana. Brazil allows visitors to enter with their vehicle for a limited period, typically matching their 3-month stay. However, the vehicle must leave with its owner to avoid seizure. In addition to standard paperwork, specific insurance for Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay) is also required, which can be obtained upon arrival or in advance.
