Entry Requirements and Visa for Tunisia
Location Map of Tunisia
People
For French Citizens
For tourist travel (and even business trips), since 2025, a passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry into the country is mandatory. No visa is required for stays of less than 3 months.
It is important to note that the national identity card (CNI) is no longer accepted for entry into Tunisia, even for organised trips, as it once was.
Dual Nationals
For dual nationals, they must also hold their Tunisian passport to enter and leave the country.
Other Nationalities
For Swiss, Canadian, Belgian, and other European Union nationals, the same entry requirements apply as for French citizens.
In Case of Violation
First, be aware that without a passport or other necessary documents based on nationality or situation, airlines and maritime companies will not allow boarding.
Staying longer than permitted in Tunisia carries the risk of expulsion and a fine proportional to the length of the overstay.
Vehicles
If you plan to bring your vehicle to Tunisia, you will need to prepare, in addition to your French driver’s licence (valid for one year), the vehicle registration document in the driver’s name, and a paper copy of your insurance certificate.
Upon arrival, Tunisian customs will issue a temporary circulation permit valid for 3 months. After this period, you must request an extension from a regional customs office and pay applicable taxes.
Recently, it has become possible to pre-declare all these procedures online via dedicated Tunisian customs apps. This simplifies the process and provides a QR code to ease customs clearance when the time comes.
Note that every vehicle is linked to its owner’s passport, meaning you must leave the country with the same vehicle. This measure is enforced to prevent the sale of foreign cars in Tunisia by non-residents.
Long Stays
For stays exceeding the 3-month visa-free period, you must apply for a "residence card" with your passport at the Ministry of the Interior or the local police station. Processing time can vary from one to several weeks, so plan accordingly.
