Flying to Uruguay
FR

General Information

Among the few airports in the country, only two have significant commercial activity: Punta del Este and Montevideo.

Curbelo International Airport is the airport for Punta del Este, the country's main beach resort, primarily popular with Brazilian and Argentine visitors. Logically, the vast majority of traffic consists of regular or seasonal flights to and from these two countries.

Carrasco International Airport is the airport for Montevideo, the capital. By far the most important in the country, it handles just over 1.5 million passengers per year (1.671 million in 2015). Its proximity to Buenos Aires and the ease of ferry crossings between the two countries have long hindered its development. Nevertheless, it offers direct flights to and from Florida, Panama, Europe (Madrid and Paris), and various South American cities. In short, a somewhat "minimal" network, but one that can easily be supplemented by the nearby presence of Buenos Aires, whose two airports offer a much wider selection (and, incidentally, competitive prices).

Types of Flights

Local Airlines

Apart from two charter specialists, Aeromas and Air Class Líneas Aéreas, Uruguay has only one national airline: Alas Uruguay, which began operations in 2016 and serves the regional network, replacing other now-defunct local airlines (Pluna, BQB...).
