Bus
As in many countries, there are two categories of buses: the "basic" ones, which are by far the most economical but slow, and the "express" or similar services, which offer better service for a slightly higher price. Both types generally operate or depart in the morning.

Motorcycle
Bicycle
Hitchhiking
For safety reasons, hitchhiking is best avoided. Additionally, it is usually not free (bus fare applies), and public transport is inexpensive.
Trains
There are no passenger train lines in the country.
Boats
The main service connects to the Bay Islands from the mainland. There is a regular twice-daily service between La Ceiba and Utila (60 minutes; $50 round trip with the Utila Princess) and Roatán (80 minutes; $65 round trip with the Galaxy Wave). Note that there is no longer a regular route between Utila and Roatán, so you must either return via La Ceiba, charter a boat, or take a flight to travel between the two. As for the third major island in the Bay Islands, Guanaja, it is only accessible by air.
Domestic Flights
Honduras has a small domestic network that primarily includes airports in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Roatán, La Ceiba, and occasionally Utila and Puerto Lempira. As expected, the Caribbean coast and its islands are the most served. Flights are operated by various small local airlines (see list), with relatively affordable fares. Expect to pay between $50 and $100 for a trip between the coast (San Pedro or La Ceiba) and Roatán in the Bay Islands.

Taxis
Other Means
Apart from "recognized" taxis, other modes of transport are best avoided in cities for safety reasons. This means no buses or similar services, and certainly no walking any distance.
