Overview of the city

Casablanca (or Casa) is the largest city in Morocco; over one in five Moroccans lives in the metropolitan area. It is also, in a way, the economic capital of Morocco.

Almost all the city's buildings date from the 20th century, and the new downtown districts with their contemporary architecture compete in opulence and modernity. In short, Casablanca is quite far from the "traditional" image one might have of a Moroccan city... which may be why it is so rarely visited.
