Health and Safety in Uruguay

Official Recommendations

In France, both for individuals and professionals, the "travel advice" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding precautions for each country has legal value. A similar online travel advice system exists in several countries:

Health

As always, it's best to be up to date with your vaccinations, even if nothing is officially required to enter the country.

Illnesses

Although the country occasionally experiences cases of dengue, the destination poses no significant health risks. To protect yourself, the best approach is to use a good mosquito repellent and cover your arms and legs at dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

Hygiene

There are no major risks here either. Just remember to stay hydrated, protect yourself from the sun during the hottest periods, and wash your hands regularly.

Crime and Delinquency

Uruguay is the safest country in all of Latin America (and even the Americas) with homicide rates twice as low as the Latin American average. However, this doesn’t mean crime doesn’t exist (it has even been slightly increasing recently) or that you can do as you please. In short, even with very limited risks, basic common sense and precautions are necessary, as they are everywhere. In another area, while cannabis consumption was legalized in Uruguay in 2013, it is highly regulated and does not apply to tourists.

Socio-Political Risks

Nothing to report.
