Beaches and Seaside Resorts

While many Argentinians prefer the beaches and resorts of Uruguay with warmer waters, the country still offers a good selection. Argentina has over 4,500 km of coastline, though the water gets much cooler as you head south.
From December to early March, during the southern summer, resorts near the capital like Mar del Plata (the largest and most famous in the country), Villa Gesell (popular with young people for its dunes and nightlife), as well as nearby towns (Carilo, Pinamar...), or further down the coast, Las Grutas, come alive with crowds, activities, and the higher prices that come with them.
Water Activities
Diving: While not a top diving destination, Argentina has some interesting sites. First, Puerto Madryn, halfway between Buenos Aires and Tierra del Fuego, where calm waters make it accessible to all. Then there’s Las Grutas (Patagonia), home to the continent’s largest artificial underwater park, with old fishing vessels sunk to create reefs. Bariloche offers diving in Andean lakes, and even Ushuaia for "extreme diving."
Water sports: Head to the Atlantic coast or the foothills of the Andes. Surfing is popular at coastal resorts, especially Mar del Plata, while kiteboarding, windsurfing, and similar sports are best enjoyed on mountain lakes and reservoirs.
Whale watching: Don’t miss this if you get the chance. From June to December, along the Patagonian coast—particularly the Valdés Peninsula—you can take whale-watching tours for around a hundred euros from Puerto Madryn or Puerto Pirámides.
