Uruguay: Climate and Weather
Location Map of Uruguay
Climate Overview
As Uruguay is in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are reversed. The climate is temperate, with hot summers, mild and sunny winters (average temperatures never drop below 15°C), and light rainfall spread fairly evenly throughout the year. Although the country is not very large, there are some differences between the coast and the interior. The coastal areas are cooler with wind for much of the year, while the inland regions are warmer, with average temperatures exceeding 30°C during the southern summer—a time when the air can feel quite humid.
Best Time to Visit Uruguay
On the coast, the period from November to late April is the most pleasant (though also the busiest for tourism between December and March). For the interior, the shoulder seasons—March to May and September to November—are ideal, helping you avoid the intense summer heat or the slight "winter chill." In short, if you want to visit the whole country, March to early May or November offers a good climate compromise.
