Cliff means beach underneath?

(No need to specify it’s not in the Faroe Islands! Sun + swimmers 😏)

How do we get down the cliff, though? (Same country—different cliff)

If we set aside the privatization of an exceptional site—which we’ll avoid debating here—some of them are absolutely stunning! Others would scare me silly #vertigo😅

The choice was still really tough for my second photo. We spent a week in the Algarve in winter—stunning sites all to ourselves, with weather that was sometimes pretty wild... pure bliss for a photographer

The cliff is no more... all that’s left is a rock stack by the water, still battered by the waves.

Good evening Bruno, I didn't upload my photo after my text, I don't remember how to do it!! Can you do it for me? I'm sorry, I totally forgot! Lillie

Hi Lillie (I love that name!) Even though some say I'm the leader of this discussion 😉, I don't have control over your messages. And in this section, time is running out to make changes. I suggest you create a new post with the same photo and the same number. To insert photos into the text, first you choose and upload the photo, then with the cursor in the right place, you click "Insert into text".

The spectacular Fingal’s Cave in Scotland, carved into the basalt columns of the cliffs on the Isle of Staffa, off the coast of the Isle of Mull. The sea, as it enters the cave, creates a resonant music that inspired Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony and the overture to his symphonic poem The Hebrides.

“You reached Fingal’s Cave via a lava sidewalk. A tunnel bored into the basalt, stretching a hundred meters from the entrance before hitting the back wall. The waves crashed at the far end, their roar filling the cavern. It captured the essence of the ocean.” (Sylvain Tesson, With the Fairies, 2023)

Hi Bruno,

A quick clarification about Milford Sound in New Zealand:

It’s a fjord, meaning an ancient glacial valley flooded by the sea. It doesn’t fit the definition of a cliff at all.

I explain everything HERE

I’d said “qqqqqqqqqWhatever” 🤪 This Instagrammed shot—at least 18 million times—is called “the eye of the needle.” And I got my feet wet to get this one 😉

In Thailand, a lot of rocky pinnacles are completely eroded by the sea... you can even walk underneath them.

At the same time, given the competition, you’ve got a good shot—there’s not a huge crowd.... 🏴‍☠️

Hi there,

Maybe there are such stunning photos submitted by the forum’s excellent photographers that people hesitate to post their own... I admit I only dared because I saw the contest was slowing down; otherwise, I would’ve held back, even though this contest is just for fun.

Maybe the "regulars" are getting tired, and maybe the "newbies" are only here for practical info and aren’t interested in the forum’s community life (I’m not wrong in saying the photo contest is part of the forum’s life, right?)

That was my random thought for the day, which doesn’t add much, I’ll admit :)

Karst peak, so off-topic. Vegetation never holds on a true cliff, and for good reason...

Lovely landscape, though.

Hi Dolma, It’s true there aren’t many people joining the contest 🤪. That said, I noticed these posts don’t show up in the active discussions thread—I asked the mods why, but I haven’t gotten an answer yet… maybe it bothers them, actually? 😕 Either way, it doesn’t help make the topic more popular 🙁 As for photo quality, it’s really a personal judgment, and everyone’s just giving it a shot, so I think you shouldn’t be afraid of your shots. Otherwise, let’s declare Rouquine the winner for the whole year 😄

Hey Michel, but it’s me who decides what’s off-topic or not!!

Okay, I see—it’s a broad interpretation of the topic.

But I can’t wait to see yours—hurry up, there’s only tomorrow left to post!

Got it! But I’ll only be sharing images of cliffs that are guaranteed pure and authentic! 😎

Hi,

Maybe the "regulars" are getting tired of it

Anyway, one person who *did* get tired was the person who started the contest thread two months ago—since they’ve moved on to other horizons...

Why are there so few participants in this contest? Since I’m one of those travelers who "can’t go a day without taking photos" (a claim I’ve heard—and dismissed—often!), I mentally went through my hard drives. Sure, I’ve seen some beautiful cliffs, but the lighting was dull, or I didn’t know how to capture the human scale that shows their height, or there was a crowded beach below... nothing that made for a good photo in my opinion. I have way more photos of rocky coasts with crashing waves and fishermen or birds... In the end, it seems cliffs just aren’t that common around the world. Besides, I’ve never been to the countries where the contest photos I’m voting for were taken. I’m not posting a photo, but I don’t regret it... As for next month’s themes, why eliminate subjects that have already been proposed? This rule should change. We’d have new photos to share... except for cliffs, of course 😉
