We’ve planned a trip (retired couple) for late August to the first half of September in Western Canada.
Classic itinerary: arrival in Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, Vancouver Island, departure from Vancouver.
I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?
We’re hesitating between taking the chance or canceling what we still can.
We’re not young anymore and don’t have the flexibility we once did...

Je pars avec XL airways... Franchemenrt je sais pas ce que ça vaut mais c'est les seules qui font paris/Las Vegas en vol direct...
Voyage en 2009, du 29 juin au 9 juillet, pour 3 personnes (2 adultes et un enfant de 8 ans).
Vol avec Virgin Atlantic, direct Londres-Los Angeles aller-retour : 1300 EUR les billets + 210 EUR d'Eurostar : 1510 EUR
Voiture : Rav 4, toutes assurances incluses, chez Alamo via locationdevoiture.fr : 320 EUR
Hôtels :
- Los Angeles : n/a (nous avions des nuits gratuites au Hilton)
- Las Vegas : 1 nuit au Flamingo - 105 dollars TTC
- Bryce : 1 nuit au Best Western Ruby's Inn - 157 dollars TTC
- Moab : 2 nuits au Inca Inn - 185 dollars TTC
- Monument Valley : 1 nuit au The View - 218 dollars TTC
- Grand Canyon : Kachina Lodge (DANS le parc, chambre avec vue sur le Grand Canyon) : 192 dollars TTC
- Los Angeles + Santa Barbara : comme ci-dessus, nous n'avons pas payé, mais les hôtels pour toutes les bourses ne sont pas ce qui manquent en Californie - voir la liste de Maruja.
Notre total à nous, hors repas, est donc de 1830 EUR (voiture + vol) et de 600 EUR (857 dollars d'hôtels) = 2430 EUR. On peut compter que les hôtels où nous serions allés sans nos nuits gratuites au Hilton auraient été de 4 x 100 dollars, 400 dollars, soit 280 EUR. Ce qui donne un total de 2710 EUR pour 3 pour 10 nuits sur place.
C'est assez concret ? 😉

Autant pour moi je viens de lire votre message au complet.
Concernant votre devis "rapide", je crois qu'il faut être plus prudente sur les sommes engagées et être + près de ce que nous voulons faire ; car l'arrivée dans une autre ville rend le vol tjs + cher puisqu'on prend 2 allers ; d'autre part, je ne connais pas de vol gratuit pr les enfants de - de 12ans (c'est gratuit pr les moins de 2 ans mais certainement pas pr les moins de 12) ; de tte façon mon enfant fera 12ans en juin.... ; d"autre part, le fait de laisser la voiture ds une autre ville augmente aussi les frais pr une prise en charge du véhicule.
en résumé si je m'en tiens à ce que vous me dites :
AVION 1265*3= 3795€
HOTELS 20*70€= 1400€
LOC VOITURE = 500€
TOTAL = 5695€
ET nous n'arrivons pas à S F, et ns ne faisons pas le stop à NY.... et en passant par une agence on ne s'occupe de rien.... pr ma part, y a pas photo.... merci qd mm

Si c'est l'agence qui vous a raconté ça... c'est pas terrible, car ce n'est pas vrai.. si c'est vous qui faites vos déductions tout seul, c'est une erreur de jeunesse😛😛
4000 euros ça semble tout a fait envisageable a cette période l'année...
Le prix des billets d'avion, il y a tout de même moyen de faire largement beaucoup, mais beaucoup mieux

Les hôtels des Chaines que j'ai cités plus haut sont des hôtels plus que corrects grandes Chambres belles salles de bain cafetière sèche cheveux très souvent petit déjeuner continental compris
Et le tout pour des prix très inférieur a ceux pratiques en France et en Europe a qualité égale
Certains sont a l'entrée des ville d'autres en centre ville

Virginie et Fabienne vous ont répondu pour moi je ne dirais rien de plus si ce n'est n'écouter pas tout ce que vous dit votre agent de voyage comme je vous l'ai écrit en MP nous sommes plusieurs si ce n'est presque tous a connaitre la façon de réserver par le net

je ne voulais pas vous froisser en écrivant mon dernier post ; je pense qu'au départ de marseille, les prix sont déjà différents et les dates choisies (ou plutôt imposées ds notre travail) font que nous tombons ds une période de forte affluence et forcément les prix grimpent en flêche.. il est possible que les allers simples ne soient plus surtaxés (ça c'est moi qui le dit) par contre il nous en coûte 100 dollars à régler sur place pour laisser la voiture à SF ; c'est écrit noir sur blanc sur le devis.

Sur le devis de l'agence je conteste pas le droop off mais il n'y a pas de droop off pour un véhicule pris et rendu en californie et même pris et rendu en californie et nevada vérifiez le vous m^me sur n'importe quel site de loueur de voiture Alamo Budget Hertz Dollar National et en plus le second conducteur est gratuit
Pour les vols comme vous l'a dit Virginie vérifiez aussi sur le site d'une compagnie moi je vous ai ceté KLM car depuis que nous allons au USA nous avons toujours depuis Toulouse eu les meilleurs tarifs avec eux en période de congés scolaire ou hors période de congés scolaires Faites une recherche avec retour d'un endroit différent par exemple nous nous allons partir en septembre 2010 aller toulouse Amsterdam miami retour Atlanta Amsterdam Toulouse le prix est de mémoire 774€ et Toulouse Amsterdam Miami aller retour 664€ nous attendons encore un peu pour les réservations

J'ai vraiment essayé de faire le mien différent des autres. Mais ... pour un premier tour d'une durée de 15-21 jours, à moins de sciemment décider de ne pas aller voir les " gros morceaux " ça ne m'a pas paru possible d'avoir un trip réellement différent ! 😕😕😕 On peut diverger un peu et sauter quelques trucs pour aller en voir d'autres, peut être moins courru mais globalement, les circuits itinérants dans l'ouest seront semblables.

Je veux bien faire apparaître une liste d'hôtels que j'ai expérimentés et trouvés corrects mais je ne suis pas sûr que ça t'aide beaucoup. D'une part, c'est subjectif, on n'a pas tous les mêmes critères de sélection, et d'autre part ma modeste expérience veut que je n'ai testé qu'un hôtel à Los Angeles, un au Grand Canyon, un à Page, un à Monument Valley, un à Bryce, un à Zion et 2 à Las Vegas. La liste sera augmentée pas avant juin 2010 😎.
Des lieux qui t'intéressent présents dans le liste ci-dessus, je peux te faire un petit résumé des hôtels où j'ai été. Dis-moi juste les lieux qui t'intéressent.
Sinon tu as Tripadvisor qui est un site internet super quand tu es en quête d'un hôtel, à compléter avec Google Maps pour voir les environs de l'hôtel avec "Street View" et ensuite le site internet de l'hôtel pour réserver (pour ma part je ne passe pas par des sites généralistes pour réserver mes nuitées).

West Hollywood: Best Western Sunset Plaza
Les plus: le petit déjeuner compris dans le prix buffet copieux et bon, la propreté, la chambre spacieuse
Les moins: le parking payant (12 dollars par jour), la chambre donnant sur Sunset Boulevard on entendait la circulation automobile, la connexion internet n'est pas trop "haut débit" ça ramait souvent....
Las Vegas: Excalibur Les plus: il est situé sur le strip mais c'est un des plus au sud, le buffet à 25$ HT pour toute la journée, le parking gratuit mais comme tous les hôtels situés sur le strip, la piscine avec plusieurs bassins Les moins: la chambre vieillotte, pas de connexion internet gratuite
Grand Canyon: Bright Angel Lodge (Cabine au bord du Canyon) Les moins: c'est pas vraiment un moins mais certains trouveraient peut-être la chambre rustique dans les cabines Les plus: la situation au bord du Grand Canyon voir les animaux et la vue!!, pouvoir garer son véhicule pas très loin des cabines, le restaurant qui a un bon rapport qualité prix
Monument Valley: Goulding's Lodge Les plus: la vue et la situation par rapport à Monument Valley, la chambre avec balcon et un grand lit confortable, l'historique du lieu Les moins: le restaurant avec un rapport qualité prix médiocre et les sourires peu présents...
Page: Holiday Inn Express Page Lake Powell Les plus: le petit déjeuner compris dans le prix, la chambre spacieuse et propre, internet haut débit gratuit, pas très loin des restaurants, piscine extérieure Les moins: bien que compris dans le prix le petit déjeuner buffet ne donne pas un grand choix
Bryce Canyon: Ruby's Inn Les plus: pas très loin de Bryce Canyon, la piscine intérieure superbe, la chambre confortable et spacieuse, un vrai petit village avec ses restaurants et ses boutiques Les moins: beaucoup de monde, le restaurant-buffet fait payer d'office un TIP (pourboire) de 15% dans la note alors que partout ailleurs ou j'ai été aux USA, on donnait ce qu'on voulait, mis à part ça le restaurant était quand même bon.
Zion National Park: Best Western Zion Park Inn Les plus: belle chambre avec vue sur les montagnes de Zion National Park, belle piscine extérieure avec spa, le restaurant buffet excellent surtout au petit-déjeuner tenu par une dame très gentille (pas compris dans le prix) Les moins: les voisins de chambre étaient bruyants mais ça c'est pas vraiment de la faute de l'hôtel...
Las Vegas: New York New York Les plus: belle chambre spacieuse avec un lit confortable, vue sur le Monte Carlo, sur le strip de Las Vegas Les moins: pas de buffet dans le casino, la piscine est moyenne comparé à celle d'autres hôtels/casinos du strip, le froid qui règne dans le casino (mais c'est le cas de tous les casinos de Las Vegas, trop de clim!!!!), pas de connexion internet gratuite
Pour la sécurité: aucun problème nulle part! Aucun sentiment d'insécurité nulle part durant tout le circuit, même à Los Angeles et à Las Vegas... Pour les prix: ça évolue d'une année sur l'autre mais disons qu'on avait ciblé dans du "moyen" voire "moyen plus". Mais notre premier critère c'était la situation géographique de l'hôtel!

Pour la sécurité: aucun problème nulle part! Aucun sentiment d'insécurité nulle part durant tout le circuit, même à Los Angeles et à Las Vegas... Pour les prix: ça évolue d'une année sur l'autre mais disons qu'on avait ciblé dans du "moyen" voire "moyen plus". Mais notre premier critère c'était la situation géographique de l'hôtel!

Hello! The itinerary is pretty much set for August 2026. Yeah, I know it’s gonna be *super* hot. But it’s the only time we can get away.

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly! Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Unfortunately, he just lost it, and he was really attached to it. Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between: - The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc. - The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes: - East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop - West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

There are several attractions along the way: - Mormon Rocks - Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite - Joshua Tree National Park - Mojave Desert - Mojave National Preserve - Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV? Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

For hikes in Lassen Volcanic Park, I’ve planned: Bumpass Hell, Cold Boiling Lake (Day 2) Paradise Meadow (maybe not going all the way), Devastated Area, and the loop around Reflection and Manzanita Lakes (Day 3) Cinder Cone and Painted Dunes (Day 4) Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV? Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast. I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October. My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips. I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks... For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400, which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.). Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
