Écoute, vraiment j'apprécie vraiment tes conseils de mec sans enfant.
Mais j'ai réussi à faire survivre mes enfants jusque là et j'ai bon espoir de les amener plus loin encore.
Quand tu auras les tiens, tu oublieras tes principes, n'aies aucun doute là dessus. On a tous pensé comme toi avant d'en avoir ... C'est l'inexpérience qui te fait parler. C'est marrant d'ailleurs : le plus souvent ce sont les "sans enfant" qui sont les plus sécuritaires. Heureusement pour les mômes, on évolue avec eux. Vivre sous cloche, ça doit pas être très rigolo. Et tout parent sain d'esprit le comprend très vite.
Le matin, je me lève pour aller bosser... pour gagner de l'argent... pour vivre... et m'offrir, à moi et à ma famille, de beaux voyages !!!

Moi qui envisageais de partir 15 jours vers koh samui pour notre premier "grand voyage " en famille avec mon petit garçon de 5 ans ! je suis refroidie par cette nouvelle. Y ' a t-il des plages plus sures ou faut il se méfier de toutes les eaux de thailande.
En plus, je suis d'une nature très anxieuse et je voulais organiser ce voyage pour aller au delà de mes angoisses!!!!
Alors je commence à me dire que je vais changer de destination ( si qq un à des propositions ???) mais c'est vrai que la thailande est très attractive . Je sais bien qu'il n' y a pas que la plage et la mer mais pour nous c'était important de faire un peu de snorkeling...

Son papa a effectué les premiers gestes de secours, en vain. L’enfant est décédé d’un arrêt cardiaque.
Le corps de Max, dont les parents habitent en région parisienne, sera rapatrié dans la semaine et inhumé au cimetière de Lablachère (dans le sud de l’Ardèche), commune d’où est originaire sa maman.
Je connais les principales îles et stations côtières de Thailande et les commentaires m'interpellent.
Je conçois tout à fait que des groupes d'amis, des voyageurs/ voyageuses solitaires ou des couples sans enfants choisissent ces lieux de vacance pour la vie nocturne.
Mais pour des familles avec de jeunes enfants pourquoi les plages de Thaïlande?

Pas du tout d'accord avec vous.. par exemple, nous, nous avons fait le tour du monde avec nos enfants... à l'autre bout du monde.. et nous ne sommes pas inconscients, ..
un enfant s'adapte à tout , faut pas non plus les élever dans du coton ...il suffit de les éduquer sur les dangers et de les surveiller .. Pour le petit Max c'est hélas un "facteur extraordinaire terrible" ...les parents n'y sont pour rien ...il aurait pu avoir un accident dans une piscine en europe....ou dans la mer...

souvent il ya des adultes qui se noient aussi en thailande du côté de karon beach (phuket) parce qu'ils font leur malin sur cette plage la mer est très dangereuse à certaine époque des courants de fond sont présents...
Même en europe on risque quelque chose, c'est la faute à pas de chance c'est tout.. nos plages de méditerranée nous avons nos lots de noyades ou d'accidents divers dans des terrains de jeu.. donc le pays n'a rien à voir dans tout ça...
il ya des enfants qui se noient aussi en atlantique à cause des beynes et des parents qui ne sont pas assez vigilants et qui bravent les interdictions de se baigner.
donc les familles qui emmènent les enfants en thailande ou ailleurs ne sont pas "fous"..
L'été dernier nous sommes allés dans les gorges du Tarn et l'Hérault.
Je crois me souvenir qu'il y a eu 7 ou 8 morts en un we sur les plages de l'Hérault. Pas mal de noyades aussi dans les lacs/plan d'eau ... Nous avons aussi les plages landaises où il est impossible de mette les pieds dans l'eau pour les enfants ... Alors sincèrement, non, nos plages ne me semblent pas moins dangereuses ou plus adaptées à nos enfants.
Et puis la Thailande offre bien d'autres choses aux familles avec enfants.
Les nôtres en parlaient encore hier, ils étaient un peu nostalgiques, c'est la rentrée ce matin ! Se baigner avec les éléphants chez François, nager avec les poissons clown, observer les singes autour de la piscine, les chercher pendant les balades en forêt ... sans parler du bonheur de rencontrer des petits français à l'autre bout de la planète et de jouer toute une soirée, se voir offrir des bananes/ bonbons par les thaïlandais sur les quais des gares, sur les plages ... Pour des mômes, ce sont des expériences formidables !
Aucun souci dans les transports, de décalage horaire... Tout est si facile, pourquoi s'en priver !

détrompez vous ... dans les camping de ce style il ya parfois des défauts de surveillance et des accidents pour des enfants .....comme il ya bcp d'autres enfants et de famille on a tendance à les "confier" pour qu'ils s'amusent entre eux.. parfois c'est le chahut des mauvais jeu donc risques d'accidents... (un ami travaille dans un camping au grau du roi) quand on va lui rendre visite il n'y a pas un jour dans la semaine où des enfants se blessent , fractures trauma cranien ... donc un accident PEUT ARRIVER MEME EN FRANCE .... donc soyez réaliste un peu et large d'esprit...
alors qu'en vacances là où on ne connait pas on est bcp plus attentif du fait qu'il ne sont pas dans un "gros camping" grouillant de monde , on les garde avec nous, ils découvrent un autre mode de vie.... jouent avec des petits thai, font de la pêche .... pas mélanger dans un camping plein à craquer ou dans les piscines ils se sautent dessus dans l'eau....et pleins d'autres dangers..en thailande ce n'est pas la jungle, les services médicaux sont très bien...même sur une île.... les enfants qui voyagent ont une ouverture d'esprit différente de ceux élever dans une "bulle" stérile...et ça n'évite pas le danger encore une fois....
donc le lieu n'a rien à voir du tout.......que ce soit en France ou à tataouine..... juste à nous de faire très attention ...

Quoi que vous en pensiez, quand les enfants ont rencontré des petits français à l'étranger, aprés 15 jours de communication non verbale avec les petits thaïlandais, c'était très différent des rencontres faites en France.
Ces rencontres prennent une autre dimension pour les enfants.
Mais peut-être que vous n'avez pas encore d'enfants vous-mêmes ? Dans ce cas, vous l'expérimenterez peut-être à l'avenir...

Ben oui c'est comme ça que j'ai élevé mes enfants aussi...Maintenant je suis fier d'eux, ils ont réussis et peuvent voyager dans le monde entier sans me demander de l'aide!
Phangan avec des enfants n'est pas plus dangereux que passer des vacances au bord de l'atlantique..Ce petit Max n'a vraiment pas eu de chance car ce type d'accident mortel est extrêmement rare...Seule précaution importante sur l'île, évitez de rouler en scooter avec des enfants...

Hello, a mettre dans le contexte et juste rappeler que sur terre et sur mer ici les dangers pour des petiots sont differents de ceux auxquels nous sommes habitues en europe( cubo meduse y en a toujours eu a kpg ). Si papa maman sont au courant du truc, et maitrise c est bien. La, a 5 ans, ca bouge partout, c est pas controlable, c est la fatalite. Toutes mes pensees aux parents.

same experience as Chris Clark, in exactly same place. Think I brushed on a mooring rope which had tentacles on it as could not see the jellyfish.Had a rash for 2 weeks.

As we all know, Box jellyfish are being reported every day at a various sites around the island. So I just wanted to post a bit of info about them in case some people are not familiar. From what I can tell by the photos I have been sent so far, we are most likely dealing with either Carybdea rastonii or Tamoya haplonema. Both are less lethal than the Australian Box Jellyfish Chironex fleckeri. A sting from either of these two species will induce moderate to severe pain, swelling and skin pigment changes lasting up to two weeks. T. haplonema can also cause muscle cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Generally symptoms for both species subside within 2-4 hours. However stings should still be taken very seriously as they can be complicated due to preexisting conditions or anaphylactic shock in some individuals.
Prevention is the key, as the nematocysts are triggered by chemicals on the skin even thin protective layers (ie rash guard, long sleeve shirt, Lycra suits, nylons, leggings, etc) can help, all divers and snorkelers should do their best to cover up as much as possible. I would also recommend dive local dive centers provide such attire for customers under their ‘shorty’ suits. And avoid touching mooring lines as often tentacles become entangled in them and remain active even if the bell of the jellyfish is gone.
Treatment is to first stabilize and monitor ABCs, remove the tentacles using tweezers or gloves, or flushing with sea water (NOT fresh water). Flush the area with vinegar to neutralize any remaining nematocysts and then apply a cold or hot pack to help relieve pain. Providing O2 can also help if shock is suspected. Call Koh Tao Rescue (077456508 or 1669) for assistance and further advice."

Love Koh Tao even if I got stung by a Box Gellyfish today and are currently getting Iv/painkiller for this at Koh Tao clinic/hospital.
My thoughts goes to my dive buddy Marine that got severe stung on both of her legs and hands.
She is on the way to the Hospital in Samui!
I only got a fraction of the stings that Marine got and my hurts quite a bit.
She was in horrible pain!

A body was found in the sea between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan on Tuesday. Suter Hanspeter, 44, disappeared at the weekend as he went snorkelling on Koh Tao.

PHUKET: A Swiss holidaymaker is missing, feared drowned, after failing to return to the beach from a snorkelling outing at the island of Koh Tao on the weekend.
Marine Police and scuba divers were searching for the 44-year-old man today off the holiday destination where British tourists Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were murdered in September.
''The missing man went snorkelling alone off Sairee beach, '' said Lieutenant Sangroj Somrojratana, of Koh Tao Police Station. ''His friend expected him back on the beach about 5pm.''
The man had been reported missing about 2am, Lt Sangroj said. He was wearing a pair of orange trunks and using a single fin, police had been told.
The brutally murdered bodies of Ms Witheridge, 23, and Mr Miller, 24, were found in a rocky alcove at the beach in September.

Ca fait flipper, nous partons en fevrier et nous prévoyons de nous baigner sur Koh Samui et Ang Thong.
Nous serons avec nos 3 enfants, 10, 15, 17. Je me dis qu'une combi et une surveillance importante ne sera pas de trop !!!

Oui en effet... Ils ne parlent pas non plus des 3 touristes décédés en scooter sur les routes de Phangan cette semaine.
Le problème des méduses devient inquiétant, des pancartes ont été réinstallés...
En tant que plongeur, on a pas vraiment peur des cuboméduse! Tout d'abord parle qu'on plonge au minimum avec un shorty, qu'on a un masque ce qui permet de bien voir, et que sous 5 mètres d'eau il n'y a plus de méduses! Tout ceci n'est pas vrai pour les baigneurs. Fin juillet sur koh Tao pas vu de méduse, mais beaucoup, beaucoup de touristes 😏
Nous partons à 2 familles ce dimanche pour un mois avec 4 "enfants" de 8,13,13 et 16 ans. Après parcours dans le Nord, nous avions jeté notre dévolu sur Kho…

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.

I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
