Hi, We’re planning a trip to Bali for the second half of March, staying 15 days: 5 days in Ubud, 5 days in Nusa Dua, and 5 days in Lombok. I know it’s not the ideal season, but can anyone tell me if it rains a lot in March, and whether the sea is too rough for swimming in Lombok and Nusa Dua? Thanks in advance, Corinne

Hi there, The weather’s great in Bali all year round! I went in November and twice in February. This month (February) is technically the rainy season, yet I only had a few rare showers in the late afternoon. March should be quite similar (probably even better), with showers in the late afternoon... but since weather isn’t an exact science, it varies every year—just like in France—except you can be more confident about the temperatures in Bali! (27°C to 30°C), same in the water.

For the sea, you need to pick your spots—it’s rough in quite a few places, which surfers love. In Nusa Dua, the water is calm... but it’s a bit less crowded! Like the French Riviera in August, but in March, it should be quieter in terms of crowds.

In Bali, I’d head to the north (Lovina Beach) or the east (Amed). Less hustle and bustle, fewer traffic jams! I also found Nusa Penida stunning. And if you’re a diver or snorkeler, it’s a great chance to see manta rays.

For beautiful beaches, Lombok is the place to go.

Hi, Thanks for this info. Regarding the climate, that’s what I’d seen too, so you’re confirming it for me. We were actually thinking of Ubud for Bali, which I think is a must-see. I’ll check out Nusa Penida—it could be a great option in addition to Lombok. Finally, we don’t do diving or surfing, which is why we’re looking for spots that are more suited for swimming! Have a great day, Corinne
