Hello everyone,
I’m planning a week-long trip to southern Portugal with my two teens. I’m looking for accommodation ideally located near Faro.
What do you think of the towns of Lagos and Albufeira? Is it easy to get around these places using public transport, or is it better to rent a car to make the most of our stay?
If you have any accommodation recommendations (hotel, campsite, Airbnb, or other), I’d love to hear them.
Thanks so much in advance for your tips and valuable feedback!
Hélène
Hi Hélène,
The Algarve is a beautiful region, and you’re going to love it. I spend several months there every year. I’d recommend Lagos—a charming little town with a pedestrianized old center, markets, small restaurants, and lovely beaches within walking distance. Albufeira is overrun with drunk Brits in the summer. Avoid it with your teens.
Rent an apartment so you can have breakfast and sometimes dinner at home.
I rent out a spacious one-bedroom (2 single beds in the bedroom and a new, comfortable sofa bed in the main room) in a very central residence with a pool, just in case.
A car is better for exploring the surrounding areas, which are well worth it. Opt for local rental companies—the prices are much better.
Boas férias!
Nadine
