Do you know any tried-and-tested hotels in Delhi and Amritsar?

Hi there, Our trip to India, starting at the end of October, is taking shape. I’d like to book a hotel in Delhi for our first three nights and another in Amritsar, where we’ll be staying during Diwali. I’ve realized it’s really hard to trust the reviews on Booking. Have any of you stayed at and can recommend mid-range hotels in these two cities? Your feedback could help us decide! Thanks in advance.

Hi there, For Delhi, yes, please cottage at the start of Paar Ganj, near the metro station. For Amritsar, I don’t know—I was invited to sleep at the Golden Temple the last time I passed through. If you need it, I can give you the address and contact for Delhi. I just need to find it again!! Happy travels

Thanks! Yes, *Cottage* is indeed the hotel I listed on our passport application, but I’ve also read mixed reviews!

If you read the reviews, they’re always more or less mixed, and you’ll always find negative opinions. Every place I’ve loved on my travels had negative or even very negative reviews too, yet they were great... The issue is that people have very different criteria and expectations, and you’ll never really know beforehand if a hotel will truly match your own standards.

I’ve never stayed at Cottage Yes Please, always opting for other cheaper places that suited me in the Paharganj area. But there’s no denying it’s one of the hotels in Paharganj with one of the best reputations. Of course, you might be disappointed if you’re expecting 4-star service.

For Delhi, a well-located mid-range hotel is Radisson Blu Marina Hotel Connaught Place. For Amritsar, Hotel Golden Lagoon is right next to the Golden Temple and is a good mid-price option.

Hello, I totally agree that feelings and expectations can vary from person to person. I actually tend to trust reviews written in French more, since we can assume that French speakers’ expectations align. Having traveled to India before, I know that noise, for example, can be very noticeable, and I’ve even had to ask for the sheets to be changed (there was a beautiful swan made out of the bedding—perfectly done… but the sheets were dirty 😅). What I’m hoping for is that everything works (electricity, in particular) and that if we take the taxi service from the airport (offered by many hotels in Delhi), it’s reliable… After we’ve started our trip, I hope we’ll be able to find places on the spot without necessarily booking in advance?

Hi, Thanks for these addresses—I’ll check them out. It’s especially hard to find recommendations for Amritsar.

Hello, I’ll add another criterion for choosing a room in Delhi... it’s the “window.” Without one, watch out for claustrophobia! With one it’s better, especially after a few hours of suffocation in the bazaar! But... noise and carbon monoxide keep you company! Still, it’s better than a few years ago when generators would kick in every time the power cut out! Otherwise, of course, if you’re not happy with a hotel after the first night, nothing stops you from changing the next day—there are plenty in the Paharganj area (RT connauth place). Have a great stay in Delhi.
