Coyotte Buttes Sud, c'est un endroit près de Page en Arizona qui est très beau. Mais afin de préserver la nature il faut un permis pour y aller et ils n'en décerne que 10 par jour
Je crains que ce soit mauvais signe. J'étais également scotché devant mon ordi à 20h00 pour obtenir mes 5 permis pour le 11 août et j'ai reçu mon mail de confirmation quelques minutes plus tard, qui il est vrai m'ont paru très longues.
Peut être qu'une autre date est encore disponible ?

malheureusement je n'ai pas d'autres dates. Je ne comprends pas ce qui n'a pas marché, environ 1/2 heure après j'ai de nouveau vu les 4 places disponibles. J'ai ré-essayé et de nouveau rien. Je dois faire une fausse manip mais je ne sais pas à quel niveau🤪. Lorsque tu as tout remplis y compris les coordonnées bancaires et que tu as validé il y a un écran où tu rentre l'adresse mail de confirmation, lorsque je saisie et valide il n'y a plus rien du genre "nous avons bien enregistré votre demande" est-ce normal?
J'ai encore essayé. En fait si la réservation ne fonctionne pas les places sont de nouveau disponible au bout 1/2h environ. J'ai donc essayé 4 fois. Apparemment c'est un problème de cartes de crédit ou c'est mon prénom qu'ils n'aiment. J'ai donc fait à nouveau une tentative avec le prénom de mon épouse et ma carte de crédit professionnelle (c'était ma dernière solution) et apparemment cela a marché..ouf..ouf
effectivement le mail arrive au bout de 2 ou 3 minutes.

C'est le 7 Août que nous voulons.
J'étais devant mon ordinateur à 20h00 j'ai sélectionné immédiatement et le temps de remplir les 10 permis étaient partis. Mais comme ma manip n'a pas marché les miens ont de nouveau été disponible au bout d'une 1/2 heure. Tu imagine le stress, depuis 20h je me bats avec l'ordinateur.
Apparemment c'était soit un niveau de protection trop élevé de mon navigateur soit ma carte de crédit.
En dernier ressort comme je viens de l'expliquer à Armelle j'ai utilisé ma carte de crédit professionnelle, j'ai mis le prénom de madame, mis l'adresse professionnelle et baissé toutes les barrières de Mozzilla. Je n'arrivais vraiment pas à identifier ce qu'il n'acceptait pas🤪.
Mais enfin ça a marché je suis tombé sur un écran qui me donnait la copie de mon permis "pour mes papiers" comme ils disent.
Je penses que tu imagine aisément le poids en moins😎

juste un détail après avoir reçu leur accord je suis "arrivé" sur un écran me demandant de confirmer ma demande (mon numéro de permis était déjà pré-inscrit), ce que j'ai fait immédiatement (tu parles!) d'après toit maintenant tout est bon?, il n'y a plus qu'à attendre le courrier?.
Normalement tu as du ou tu vas recevoir aussi un mail de confirmation.
Ne sois pas trop préssé pour les permis qui sont envoyés par la poste. Je n'ai pas encore reçus les miens depuis mon inscription il y a 1 mois.🤪
Il arrive que les cartes ne fonctionnent pas sur des sites internet. Par exemple j'ai essayé plusieurs fois de réserver un spectacle du cirque du soleil avec ma visa et ça n'a pas marché 🤪

N'ayant pas encore reçu notre permis CBN pour juin, j'ai écrit hier au BLM. Réponse ce matin: les permis sont envoyés environ 4 semaines avant la date de la rando.

Ravie d'apprendre que vous avez finalement obtenu vos permis pour CBS. En ce qui nous concerne, nous irons le 11 août avec Susan et Steve de Paria Outpost. Ils viennent de me répondre que le restaurant ne serait pas ouvert, certes ce n'est pas l'essentiel, mais d'après tous les témoignages lus, le BBQ est également un moment sympa. Je suis donc étonnée.
Et vous, avez vous prévu une journée complète ?

Avec Paria Outpost nous avons prévu une grosse demi-journée: 6h - 14h, pour eux c'est compté comme une journée. Nous avons opté pour cette solution matinale à cause du soleil.

Figure toi que je n'y ai pas encore réfléchi, je pensais que Paria savait mieux que moi comment optimiser ces heures. Mais je vais tout de même y réfléchir, d'après Photographing the Southwest Cottonwood Plateau (avec Teepees & Cove) est le plus beau, suivi de White Pocket et pour finir Paw Hole (je viens juste de regarder).
Mais je crois que White Pocket est beaucoup loin et assez long à accéder. Ce sera donc Vraisemblablement Cottonwood Plateau et Paw Hole.
C'était un peu long mais je suis en train d'y réfléchir en direct😉
Pour ma part, j'avais proposé à Susan et Steve Paw Hole, Cottonwood et White Pocket après avoir lu également le PTS. Nous n'avons pas parlé d'horaires... il va falloir que je cale celà avant la veille si je ne veux pas me faire huer par les enfants qui tiennent à leur compte de sommeil et qui m'ont déjà houspillé lorsqu'ils m'ont vu "faire des sauts de cabri" lors de la réservation tellement j'étais contente d'avoir les permis 😏😏😏.
Durant votre longue demi journée, il vaut mieux se concentrer sur White Pocket et Cottonwood Teepees, ce sera déjà pas mal dans le temps imparti.
La partie de Paw Hole que font visiter Steve et Suzan sur le retour (les teepees près de la piste) ne vaut pas vraiment pas le coup par rapport au reste de la visite, ce qui est beau à Paw Hole c'est la face Ouest du massif à un mile à pied de la piste, de préférence en fin de journée (voir la 4ème partie de mon carnet de voyage).

Nous avons aussi réservé avec Paria Outpost et sous le conseil de Philippe, nous avons demandé Le combiné Coyote Buttes South + White Pocket. Steve et Susan nous ont proposé de partir très tôt, dès 5H00 pour rentrer aux alentours de 14H00 à cause de la chaleur. Si on compare au timing de ceux qui sont partis vers 9H00 du matin pour rentrer vers 18H00, le compte y est... je pense. Ce qui est sûr c'est qu'il faudra profiter du lever du soleil plutôt que du soleil de fin d'après-midi...
ah! carrément à 5 heures... mais il ne faut pas de lampe frontale à cette heure😉
Vous viendrez d'où, car il y encore le trajet pour arriver à Paria Outpost.
Je pensais pas qu'il fallait autant de temps pour faire ces deux sites...les enfants vont "râler"
Nous logeons à Page, ce qui signifie qu'il va falloir se lever vraiment très tôt mais bon, je pense que cela va valoir le coup mais je n'ai pas de problème avec les enfants, ils sont toujours prêts à se lever tôt quand il s'agit d'aller crapahuter.

Tu es sûr pour le soleil, car je serais partant pour vous imiter, à condition que Paria accepte de partir si tôt.
Pour les enfants je vais faire miroiter une piscine bien bleu, de l'eau fraîche, un autorisation spéciale pour du coca et des glaces, bref je devrais y arriver...
En fait, c'est Paria Outpost qui m'a donné l'horaire, ce n'est pas moi qui ai décidé. Je suppose qu'ils savent ce qu'ils font à partir si tôt, je leur fais confiance.
Pour les enfants, depuis leur plus tendre enfance, on les a fait marcher. Ils ont aujourd'hui 18 et 20 ans. Par exemple, quand nous sommes en Corse, ils préfèrent randonner qu'aller nager ou aller à la plage. Finalement, tu as peut-être raison, ce sont des extra-terrestres !
Il faut au moins 1h30 pour arriver à White Pocket (et encore, si Steve et Suzan fncent et prennent le chemin le plus court via Paw Hole), et plus tôt vous arriverez sur place mieux ce sera pour la lumière.
Avec les secousses, les enfant auront du mal à dormir dans le 4x4. mais ils pourront toujours faire une sieste ans les hamacs du Paria Outpost après l'excursion.
Je pars encore dans l'Ouest, mais outre que je trouve toujours de nouveaux sites (mineurs cette année) à à visiter, je découvrirai aussi l'Ouest du South Dakota.

L'année passée nous avions démarré très tard puisque nous venions de Grand canyon village et qu'il y avait eu un probleme de communication avec Susan (il faut impérativement les rappeler par téléphone qq jours avant pour confirmer votre venue).
Nous étions donc partis du resto vers 11h !!. Nous sommes rentrés au resto vers 19h !! Steve qui avait pris un autre groupe le matin et nous a repris après, était vidé !😐
Dans le 4x4 on est hyper secoué sur les pistes mais c'est ça qui est amusant pour les enfants !

J'ai vu sur votre site que vous enchaînez CBS le 7 juillet puis CBN le 8 avec Steve et Suzan. Pour nous ce sera les 11 et 12 août, dans le même ordre ... avec la même tension lors de la réservation pour CBS, les places étant prises d'assaut et la même incrédulité lorsque une heure plus tard, nous avons appris que nous étions tirés au sort pour The Wave, alors que nous sommes 5, ce qui diminue encore plus les probabilités d'être retenus.
Qu'avez vous prévu pour ces 2 journées avec Paria Outpost : des départs très matinaux ? un circuit rallongé ?

Nous sommes déjà allés avec Steve et Susan l'an passé à CBS et white pocket. Nous étions partis tard à cause d'un malentendu sur l'heure de rendez-vous et de plus nous venions de Grand canyon village ce jour là (nous étions partis à 5h du mat). Nous avons du commencer CBS vers 11h !..🤪
Pour cette année Steve propose de partir très tôt et de rentrer tôt aussi. cela ne nous dérange pas. Nous avions eu très chaud le midi à CBS mais quand nous étions partis à white pocket dans l'après midi le soleil était caché. heureusement car l'endroit ressemble à un vrai four (blanc). A white pocket il est possible de trouver quelques zones d'ombres mais CBS est en plein soleil !!!
White pocket est vraiment un endroit merveilleux !!! (photos dans mon carnet de voyage)
Bref la balade a tellement plu à mon mari l'an apssé qu'il a proposé d'y retourner...mais ça c'etait avant de savoir que l'on serait selectionné aussi pour the wave !!!
Steve propose de partir aussi très tôt pour the wave mais Sedonax dit qu'il y a beaucoup d'ombre au matin et c'est mieux d'être dans la vague vers 12h00... donc je verrai à négocier avec Steve la veille.

Nous avons fait en Mai CBS avec Steeve.
En fait, je m'y étais pris trop tard pour avoir deux permis sur internet. Steeve, contacté par téléphone, a fait le nécessaire pour m'obtenir lui-même les permis la veille de notre arrivée.
Nous étions trois (quatre avec Steeve).
Départ à 9h15 (après la loterie de the Wave), arrêt Paw Hole une 1/2 heure, CBS et Cottonwood Teepees (2-3h), picnic à l'ombre d'un arbre, puis White Pocket (2-3h).
Retour vers 19h. Mais cette fois pas de repas le soir prévu pour nous !
Assez longue journée donc, très beau temps, bel éclairage, mais vent frais rendant la journée agréable.
Mais je comprends qu'en Juillet-Aout, ces horaires pourraient être pénibles, et qu'il limite à la matinée.
Magnifique balade, à recommander.
Pour ce qui concerne le trajet sur piste, je pense que je n'aurais pas été capable de passer seul. Voir Steeve au volant dans les portions difficiles de sable est un véritable spectacle !

L'année passée c'était Susan qui nous avait pris en charge au départ vu l'heure tardive. Ensuite, à CBS, on avait rehjoint Steve qui était avec une famille de français de 3 personnes qui devaient partir tôt. On avait donc continué avec lui.
Nous étions rentrés au restau vers 19h.
Bien sur, nous n'avions pas eu le temps de faire Paw Hole.
Comme toi, tout le monde avait trouvé la route très "fun" et comme toi nous nous sommes dit que nous ne serions jamais passés nous même, surtout pour White pocket !😉

Merci pour ces précisions. Voyageant en CCar, c'est pour nous une "obligation" de recourir à un outfiter pour accèder aux sites. Au vu des échos des uns et des autres, la conduite fait donc partie du plaisir de la journée. Susan et Steve ont gentiment accepté que nous squattions leur terrain la veille au soir, pour y passer la nuit. Nous serons donc prêts dès l'aube !
Est ce que vous pensez faire à nouveau un road book "en direct" sur VF ? Si oui, je serai une accro ...

Le voyage en 4x4 , où l'on étaient chahutés de tous côtés en rebondissant sur les sièges avait beaucoup amusé les enfants !
Je ne sais pas encore si j'aurai le courage de faire une rubrique "live" car cette année il y a a pas mal de randonnées de prévues (on y a pris goût), avec des levers programmés aux aurores d'où plus de fatigue en perspective !!

Au fait White Pocket + CBS prend combien d'heures ?. J'aurais voulu faire 5h30 - 13h30, à cause de la chaleur et parce qu'il faut encore qu'on fasse la Cottonwood Canyon Rd pour rejoindre Bryce où nous dormirons (ça c'est sûr!!)
Il me semble que ce soit tout à fait possible.
L'an passé nous étions arrivés tard à CBS (vers 11h me semble t-il) et nous étions rentrés au restaurant vers 19h. Nous n'avons pas fait Paw Hole.
Attention de bien vous entendre sur l'heure de rendez-vous : Faite vous bien préciser par les Dodson Heure de l'ARIZONA ou heure de l'UTAH.
Il y a 1h de décalage horaire entre les 2 états.
Donc qui dit RDV à 5h à Paria veut dire 4h à Page et il faut prévoir le temps de route (sauf pour armelle1500 qui sera cool dasn son camping car sur le parking !!!). 😉

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. They told us they’ve spent over 15 years exploring every corner of the American West, and it really shows. Their knowledge of geology, park history, and local anecdotes is just impressive. It’s nothing like someone reciting a memorized script. They answer all your questions and really adapt to what you want to see or do.
What we really loved: the vehicle was super comfortable, and the little details made a difference—like snacks and even a homemade cake! Though, to be fair, we devoured the cake right away, so that counts.
Since they know the sites inside out, they took us at the right times to avoid crowds. So we could enjoy peaceful picnics at Grand Canyon viewpoints without being packed in with 200 people. Plus, on top of the must-see spots, they showed us some hidden gems that were absolutely stunning—places we never would’ve found on our own. They’re true locals who know all the best tips.
The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
