Tout dépend du nombre de jours que vous partez. Pour plus de 17 jours la formule achat-rachat est à considérer. Demandez à votre agent de voyage d'établir les prix pour chacun d'eux. Je vous transmets un article paru dans la presse en février dernier concernant votre questionnement.
j'ai effectivement vérifié et si on prend les assurances avec une location, l'achat-rachat semble plus intéressant. Mais sans assurances on coupe le prix de moitié, si on a une carte de crédit qui couvre les assurances cela peut être tentant. Cependant j'ai une crainte d'utiliser mes assurances de carte de crédit et que cela me pose des problèmes si j'ai un pépin avec l'auto.

Nous avons utilisé les 2 formules. Il y a quelques années, la formule achat-rachat était plus économique. Mais depuis quelques années, nous optons pour la location car le prix est meilleur si on a une carte de crédit qui couvre les assurances.
Nous avons loué avec le consolidateur Auto Europe la plupart du temps et dans plusieurs pays ( Italie, Grèce, Croatie, Espagne, Portugal et France. Une fois nous avons loué avec Nacional Citer, car il y avait un spécial avec les billets d'avion Corsair.
Nous n'avons jamais eu de problème avec la location. Tout s'est toujours bien déroulé. Mais nous vérifions toujours très méticuleusement l'auto en la prenant . Aussi lorsque nous la retournons, nous nous assurons que le préposé vérifie l'auto et nous remette le document signé signifiant qu'elle n'a pas de dommages nouveaux.
Aussi, à la livraison, il faut refuser toutes les offres de rachat de franchise ou autres assurances et s'assurer que c'est bien indiqué sur le contrat avant de signer.
L'avantage de l'achat-rachat c'est que d'autres personnes peuvent conduire l'auto . Avec la location, il y a des frais pour conducteur supplémentaire.

On a toujours utilisé la formule achat-rachat jusqu'à présent car on partait pour une longue période. Nous prévoyons partir pour Londres pour 10 jours et nous pensons louer une auto pour 3 jours. Comme nous possédons une carte de crédit Visa, nous nous sommes renseignés si elle incluait une couverture d'assurance automobile dans un cas de location à l'étranger. On nous dit que seuls les dommages à la voiture louée sont couvert et non les autres véhicules éventuellement impliqués. On nous renvoit à nos assurances automobiles personnels. Ces derniers nous mettent en garde que les locations hors Amérique du nord (comme dans notre cas, en Angleterre) ne sont pas couvertes par notre assurance auto du Québec.
Alors, que faire. Comment s'assurer d'être couvert si un accident arrivait: les dommages à autrui, la responsabillité civile (un tiers blessé), etc.
Si on accepte la couverture offerte par le locateur, c'est sûr que ça revient plus cher car ''notre'' voiture est assurée deux fois (par Visa et par le locateur). Faut aussi ajouter un extra si on veut avoir un déductible de 500$ et non 1000$ comme proposé dans le prix de base.
Comme vous semblez être une habituée de cette formule pourriez-vous nous éclairer? Que feriez-vous dans cette circonstance?

Je n'hésite jamais à choisir la formule achat-rachat lorqu'elle est disponible pour la destination projetée. À mon avis, on est gagnant lorque l'on considère l'ensemble des avantages.
Avec l'achat-rachat, on a exactement la voiture que l'on a choisie, elle est neuve et c'est toujours kilométage illimité. Avec la location, la voiture n'est jamais neuve, ce n'est pas toujours kilométage illimité et on nous refile souvent un autre modèle que celui que l'on a réservé, généralement plus gros et plus coûteux en essence. C'est ce qui m'est arrivé l'an dernier en Italie. En Europe, c'est un désavantage certain.
Côté assurance, il faut faire très attention quant on fait des comparaisons. Avec l'achat-rachat, l'assurance comprise est vraiment multi-risques et sans franchise aucune. On est complètement protégé. Pour obtenir l'équivalent avec une location, il faut souvent souscrire des avenants additionnels à la police comprise dans le prix de location, ce qui augmente beaucoup le coût. On peut tenter d'éviter ces assurances additionnelles en se fiant sur l'assurance qu'offre les cartes de crédit, mais il est prudent de bien lire en quoi elle consiste exactement et à quelles conditions elle s'applique. Quant on fait bien le compte et que l'on veut être bien protégé, il n'y a pas de différence significative de coût entre une location et un achat-rachat, à voiture comparable bien entendu. Si on ajoute l'avantage de la voiture neuve et la certitude d'avoir exactement ce que l'on veut, alors l'achat-rachat l'emporte. Avec cette formule, je ne me pose pas de questions et j'ai l'âme en paix. En voyage, c'est important.
Complètement d'accord avec vous c'est pourquoi nous avons toujours utilisé cette formule. En plus avec l'achat-rachat aucun frais additionnel pour un deuxième chauffeur.
Au mois de juin cette année j'ai loué une voiture à Bordeaux. Ce n'était pas achat rachat.
Elle était flambant neuve. Gros tableau de bord. Elle était super.
On part de l'aéroport et on se rend à Marignac pour visiter Bordeaux. On laisse la voiture au stationnement.
Nous revenons prendre l'auto, de la fumée sortait du capot. Ça sentait le brûlé. On est retourné à l'aéroport qui était tout proche. On nous en a donné une autre.
La deuxième avait 7688 kilomètres. Elle était bien aussi.
Je ne connais pas vos intentions de voyage une fois sur place mais avez-vous songé aux transports en commun ? Mon conjoint et moi avons passé 2 mois en France en mai-juin dernier et avons utilisé uniquement trains-bus-tram-métro et nos pieds bien sur! Ns avions évalué un achat-rachat et les transports en commun et une fois l'essence, les péages, les stationnements payés, c'était vraiment plus avantageux les transports en commun. Bien sur ça ns a limité un peu, par exemple, ns n'avons pour ainsi dire pas visité de petits villages d'arrière-pays mais tout de même. Dépendamment de la durée de votre voyage ça vaut peut-être le coup de faire la simulation. Bon voyage!

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?
- Is the road through the narrow valley of the White Lütschine toward Lauterbrunnen and beyond still worth it in terms of views and scenery?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
