je rechercher un logement à NY.
de base, j'aimerai etre au sud ce central park car j'ai l'impression que bcp de choses à voir sont au sud du parc.
les tarifs sont supers eleves, et j'espere trouver de bonnes opportunités.
mais si je monte un peu j'arrive à trouver des prix interessat à l'est et à l'ouest du parc : upper west side et upper east side.
comment sont ces quartiers? C'est pas trop craignos, meme si c'est pas le terme que je devrais utiliser.
je sais que NY est une ville sure mais certains quartiers ont eu une réputation peu reluisante question surete (genre harlem , brooklyn) meme si ce n'est pus vrai aujourd'hui. est que le upper west side et east side sont dans la meme catégorie?

Si vous trouver un logement à un prix interessant dans UWS - il ne faut pas hésiter. Eviter au-dessus de la 76eme si possible, vous commencez à vous éloigner - après vous avez toujours le metro qui est vraiment sûr.
Quartiers sympa: West Village, Greenwich, East Village.
Après, cela dépend des goûts: des gens apprécient Time Square pour loger. Je trouve que c'est un peu trop touristique.

en avril nous avons loge( 2 adultes et 2 ados) dans upper side au niveau de la 94th au day's inn Manathan.
Le metro est au pied de l'hotel et tu es en 10 minutes dans le centre.
Des restaurants sympas.
Un quartier tres calme et propre. (demander une chambre sur l'arriere car Broadway est assez bruillante).
Tres bon souvenirs

déjà 6 fois que je vais a NY et j'ai toujours loué un appartement via airbnb à Brooklyn, ce sont des idées reçues que Brooklyn est craignos, certain quartier oui comme brownsville mais a part ça je ne voudrais aller nul part autre qu'a Brooklyn, (quartier williamsburg, ou bedstuy ou proche prospect park) les prix sont abordable ce sont des quartiers genre village hyper agréable et a quelques station de metro de Manhattan.
Il faut arrêter les idées reçue et s'ouvrir un peu !

Tu as raison, c'est là qu'est la magie de NY. Surtout pour une première fois!
Le problème c'est, et tu en parles toi même, le budget. Vu le nombre de visiteurs à NY, loi de l'offre et de la demande oblige : les hébergements pas chers mais propres et confortables avec un accueil correct, c'est juste une vue de l'esprit.
C'est pour ça, et comme tu recherches du pas trop cher, que nous te conseillons de t'excentrer un peu pour que ça rentre dans un budget "acceptable".

Le centre de manhattan, c'est génial, le rêve. Nous avons dormi dans un superbe hotel sur la 42ème, à proximité de Times Square, idéalement placé, central, le top quoi ! Mais question budget, ça décoiffe (on s'en foutait c'était notre voyage de noces, on voulait se faire plaisir).
Si ton budget est compté, Brooklyn constitue un excellent compromis ! De même que certains quartiers un peu plus au sud de Manhattan (comme proposé). L'idéal étant de rester à proximité d'une station de métro, parce que finalement, tu pars le matin en métro dans le quartier qui t'intéresse et tu y passes la journée !
Mais je comprends tout à fait ton envie de rester au centre de manhattan, c'était LA condition pour notre voyage aussi, et nous n'avons vraiment pas été déçus de notre choix ! Mais nous y avons mis le prix ! ;)
Il n'y a plus vraiment d'endroits dangereux à Manhattan. Vous pouvez vous éloigner sans probleme de ce que vous appelez le centre! D'ailleurs, n'avez vous pas envie de vous meler aux new-yorkais plutot que de rester entre touristes près de Times Square?? Harlem est authentique mais pas dangereux. Si vous voulez rester au sud, regardez ce qui se fait du cote de East Village et Alphabet city en évitant de traverser Tompkins Park la nuit et d'aller plus loin que l'avenue C.
Brooklyn est très vaste, certains quartiers ont toujours mauvaises réputations mais bcp sont très surs voire meme de plus en plus chic ou bobo!

J'y ai logé il y a deux semaines, je ne peux qu'approuver ! Excellente affaire, à 600€ la chambre pour 4 pour 5 nuits, avec vue sur Manhattan et notamment l'Empire State Building depuis le lit, top !

En effet, dans la même rue que le Ramada, un peu plus prêt de la station de métro, il fait plus récent mais les prix sont peut être plus élevés il me semble.

Pour vous New York se résume à Times Square? c'est comme ci Paris tournait autour des champs Elysées! ou que vous soyez vous devrez marcher et vous déplacer en métro cela permet de visiter! le métro étant très bien organisé pour visiter NY du Nord au Sud, il n'est pas nécessaire de vouloir séjourner dans le Sud de Manhattan où les prix sont exorbitants !! Mon fils vit depuis 8 ans à NY et demeure au niveau de la 102 ème dans l'Upper West Side....ces quartiers au niveau de Broadway ne posent aucun problème et vous permettent d’accéder rapidement à tous les sites intéressants.
Vous avez tout à fait raison, je ne comprends pas cette obsession de vouloir être proche de Times square ou au sud de manhattan absolument comme ci tout se passait la, manhattan est très bien desservi que vous soyez au nord à l'ouest à l'est même sur Brooklyn ( je louais un appart sur brooklyn je mettais 15 min pour etre a manhattan) Harlem ou le new jersey. Les transports en commun ne sont pas un souci en plus ils fonctionnent non stop 24h/24h un bonheur! Si seulement à Paris ça pouvait être pareil!
Arrêtez de vous focaliser sur le lieu et le temps de trajet sauf si vous êtes sur NY pour 2 jours et que tout dois être fait au pas de course.

En fait l'idée c'est que Manhattan n'a pas vraiment de centre... mais autant de centres qu'il y a de quartiers! Le quartier de Times Square est pour les touristes le centre mais après une heure passée là-bas, il n'y a pas grand chose à faire... en plus c'est bruyant, fatiguant et surpeuplé! donc pas vraiment l'endroit rêvé quand on revient d'une bonne journée de marche à travers la ville. Williamsburg est très accessible avec la ligne L et tu dois pouvoir aller d'un point à un autre de Manhattan (sous Central Park) en mois de 30 min! et ce 24h sur 24!
Je rejoins curieuseNY sur cette notion de centre géographique. Soit tu te donnes les moyens et tu résides n'importe où sur Manathan et tu seras dans un endroit où ça vit 24-7, Times Square pouvant être un de ceux-là, mais il y en a d'autres comme c'est si bien dit. Soit tu ne mets pas les moyens (financiers) et tu t'exiles un peu dans des quartiers moins glamours, mais faciles d'accès et bien moins chers.

From what I've found, it doesn't exist everywhere anymore, but that's okay! We're happy to take detours along the way. We're open to visiting less touristy or even completely off-the-beaten-path spots.

Hi fellow travelers, do you think there’s a real benefit to spending 2-3 days in Yosemite when I’ll already be spending a week in Banff and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies? Won’t it feel a bit redundant? I’m asking because Yosemite is expensive (I’d go with an agency from SF, staying in a cabin, since I’ll be solo and without a car) and apparently packed.

After that, we’re heading to Sherbrooke to visit our daughter, who’s studying at the university there. We’ll spend 3 days with her, and then, since she has a break that week, we’re taking her along for 3 days in Quebec City.
We’ve planned to visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans.
I’d love to hear what route you’d recommend for the drive from Sherbrooke to Quebec City—we’ll have the whole day to take it easy.

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?
After our first trip to the West, we’d love to go back to see other must-see spots!

What do you think? Could we add one more night somewhere? We’re not big hikers, so we’ll mostly explore the parks using shuttles.
Also, we’re all set—passports are good. Do you think one classic Visa card and one premium Visa card will be enough for coverage?
