Japan & South Korea Cruise Review
Hi everyone, I’m back from my 10-day cruise to Japan and South Korea and wanted to share my experience. Before leaving, I searched the forums but found very few firsthand accounts of this kind of trip.

Just so you know, a cruise isn’t some slow, easy trip—every port stop is an adventure!

We flew from Marseille with Lufthansa via Frankfurt, with a short 1.5-hour layover that was just enough, though we still had to sprint to make our connection. We’d booked seats with extra legroom, which was great—we were next to premium economy, so we had a good spot. The airline hadn’t sold all the premium seats and kept making announcements to attract takers, but no discounts!

After about 12 hours, we arrived at Tokyo Haneda feeling pretty wiped since we hadn’t slept. The time difference is 7 hours, so we landed in late morning in Japan. We took the free rail shuttle to central Tokyo. The entry process went smoothly thanks to the Japan web app. For the subway, we’d registered our Suica card, but we hadn’t anticipated how tricky transfers could be when stations don’t always have elevators—bit of a hassle, but still cheap! Navigating the subway is super easy, though. We’d bought a SIM card on Amazon beforehand, so everything was smooth.

We’d booked a room at the Grand Hazelmon Hotel, which is near the Imperial Palace. It’s a quiet business district in the evenings and well-connected by subway.

I’d opted for a half-room, so I was worried about space, but it was fine—no smaller than a London or Paris hotel room! Breakfast was included and really good.

We even had dinner there one night—dishes were around 9 € at a 4- or 5-star hotel, so we didn’t hold back.

In the afternoon, we visited the Imperial Palace. You can’t go inside, but it’s a green oasis—surprisingly peaceful despite Tokyo’s 36 million people—and very secure.

I’ll share more of my adventures later!

In memory of Titi (77310)
Hello, Some of you may not be aware, but a few days ago, Titi passed away suddenly. He was a very active member of this forum, keeping track of cruise departure schedules for members. Today, I wanted to open this post to inform you and let you share messages that will bring comfort to his partner, Agnés.

Lan Ha Bay Cruise (Vietnam)
Hello,

We’re heading to Vietnam next March and would love to do a cruise in Lan Ha Bay, which seems like a more preserved and less touristy alternative to Halong Bay. However, there are so many different companies out there, and we’d really appreciate your advice and firsthand experiences to help us make the right choice.

We’re looking for a 3-day, 2-night cruise on a small-capacity boat to avoid overly large groups.

A big thank you to anyone who takes the time to share their recommendations to help us with our search!

Have a great day! 🙂

From Ilulissat to the Icefjord during a cruise stop
Hi everyone, I was supposed to go to Greenland in 2020, but—Covid! Then, health issues. This time *has* to be the one. I’m going on a small cruise on the *World Explorer*. So, depending on my physical abilities, I’d love to visit the Icefjord from Ilulissat. Do any of you know if there’s a way to get there by vehicle, off the main paths? If not, what particular challenges might there be on foot? I think it takes about 45 minutes? Thanks for your help, have a great day!

Layover in Gothenburg
Hi there, In June we’re taking a cruise called "Pearls of the Baltic" on board Renaissance CFC Cruises—with stops in Kiel (Germany), Gdańsk (Poland), Rønne (Bornholm), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Gothenburg (Sweden).

This layover in Gothenburg doesn’t really inspire me—could you tell me what’s worth seeing? Are there locals offering excursions around the area by van right when you leave the port, like you often see on Caribbean cruises?

I saw there’s a hop-on hop-off bus, but I’m not sure if there’s a stop near the terminal.

What are your suggestions? Thanks in advance! Best regards,

Is there Wi-Fi on board the World Explorer?
Hi everyone, If any of you have taken this ship before, could you tell me if there’s Wi-Fi on board and, if so, what the cost is? I can’t seem to get the info from Rivages du Monde. Thanks, and have a great day!

Change of itinerary on Costa Favolosa: what are the reasons?
Hi, I’m looking for information about the cruise currently running from May 29 to June 10, 2025, around Iceland. The ship didn’t make the scheduled stops—it skipped 2 and stayed a full day off the port of Reykjavik. The cruise seems to have been completely disrupted. Could anyone tell me the reasons? We were planning to go soon, but this situation is making us think twice. Thanks!

CFC Cruise: Is the Sandnes/Stavanger stop still planned?
Hi everyone, From March 31 to April 10, I took the Viking Lands cruise with CFC. Out of curiosity, I checked the Renaissance’s route yesterday and noticed it didn’t make the Sandnes/Stavanger stop that we had. Maybe the itinerary was planned that way? Best regards,

Review of our first experience with CFC
Hi there, By sheer chance, a family housewarming in Brussels gave us the opportunity to depart from Zeebrugge for our first experience with CFC, allowing us to discover ports we didn’t know (which has become rare). After some questions before departure while browsing the forums, we discovered this company with great pleasure. Of course, luck may have played a particularly favorable part: dream weather, a sea as calm as a lake, and boarding and disembarking almost as if the ship were reserved just for us, since during our departure from Zeebrugge, only a small number of passengers were taking advantage of the unoccupied cabins from the previous cruise ending in Le Havre. As a result, we couldn’t get a suite, but our balcony cabin was very functional, with plenty of storage and a whirlpool bath we thoroughly enjoyed. Admittedly, the carpet was a bit worn, but it wasn’t a big deal. Having a large enough table allowed us to have breakfast in the cabin (our usual habit) in excellent conditions. The ship, a reasonable size, was pleasant, in great condition, and had many comfortable lounges. A large enclosed and heated space with a pool, jacuzzi, and deck chairs offered a calm atmosphere without intrusive activities (which is rare). I won’t mention the entertainment since we barely participated, but I think there was plenty of choice, including a "special bridge" activity. The restaurant had a lovely setting, with quick service and particularly attentive staff, reminding us of cruises from the past. The food was good quality and well-presented, though portions were quite small—something big eaters might regret. We loved the charm of an old-fashioned theater with comfortable seats and a table for drinks. The shows were fairly high quality, though opinions may vary. They catered mainly to a French-speaking audience, which is quite rare, and featured a live orchestra. The excursions seemed reasonably priced for what they offered, but we didn’t participate since we prefer organizing things ourselves. To sum up, we were pleasantly surprised by this "old little ship" with a mostly French-speaking, very attentive staff, all in a great atmosphere.

Questions about boarding and stops with the MSC Poesia
Hello! We’re heading out on a cruise from Copenhagen soon, and I’d love to know how to get from the central train station to the MSC Poesia’s embarkation port using public transport. How do we get from the ship to downtown Oslo? What’s there to do in Eidfjord? I’ll admit I visited Copenhagen and Oslo a long time ago, so I’m guessing the ships might’ve changed their docking spots by now 😅

Access to Naples and Palermo on foot during stopovers
Hello

We’re taking an MSC cruise in May, and after the Cinque Terre, we’ll be stopping in Naples. We’d like to know if it’s possible to walk out of the port quickly and reach a nice area of Naples on foot (we’re two older people). While we’re at it, I’ll ask the same question for Palermo, since we’ll be there the next day. Thanks for your replies.

Booking MSC USA
Hi everyone!

I’d like to book my first cruise! I noticed a great deal on MSC US with premium drinks and Wi-Fi for the same price as in France! Do you know if there’s an issue with booking since you’re supposed to be a US resident, but it’s just a check?

Which cabin should we choose on the MS Vesteralen?

Organizing Danube cruise excursions independently from Vienna to Bucharest
hi there A group of friends and I are going on a CroisiEurope cruise along the Danube in September, from Vienna to Bucharest. The excursions are optional and, in my opinion, pricey. I’m convinced we can manage on our own... * In Vienna, is it easy to visit the city and Schönbrunn Palace in one day? (Since we only have a day, is it better to explore the palace grounds or the interior?) ...97 € * In Bratislava, is visiting the castle and hiking in the Little Carpathians worth it? ...79 € * Budapest: Széchenyi Baths ...119 € and the Great Market Hall ...84 € * Kalocsa: the Puszta nature reserve and a horseback riding show ...76 € * Novi Sad: a panoramic bus tour followed by a walk to Petrovaradin Fortress ...41 € * Ruse: visiting the Rusenski Lom Valley ...43 € For all these cities, can we get around on our own? If so, should we take a bus, a taxi, or is it enough to be good walkers? (Share all your tips!) Thanks in advance for your feedback. Best regards

Costa Deliziosa cruise in Trieste - boarding duration at the maritime station
Hi there,

We’re boarding a Costa cruise on the Deliziosa next weekend at 11:30 AM. Our flight lands at 10 AM at Trieste Airport. Unfortunately, there’s no train before 11 AM, so we’ll arrive around noon, later than the time indicated on the boarding pass. Could you confirm that we can easily arrive 30 minutes later? I imagine there must be quite a wait to board.

Thanks so much!

Cruise Canceled on the Celebrity Infinity
Hi everyone, Here’s a little story about what happened to me—I was supposed to go on a cruise on the CELEBRITY INFINITY on February 16th, but nothing went as planned 😕 We left for Athens on February 14th, had a good flight, and stayed at the same hotel as last year, the PHIDIAS PIRAEUS HOTEL, which we really liked. But this year, it was disappointing—no upgrade from BOOKING, so a smaller room and, above all, noisy because of a compressor sound.... Anyway, we arrived in the late afternoon, took a walk, and found a really nice restaurant in the pedestrian streets of Piraeus. The next day, the 15th, we maybe thought about going to the island of Aegina, but we got up a little too late, so we just went for a walk. We came back to the hotel for a break, then got ready for a massage I had booked online. I absentmindedly checked my phone… an email from CELEBRITY announcing the cancellation of the cruise!!! That’s a first for us—we were a little shocked by the news 😕 TO BE CONTINUED....

Visit suggestions for Bonaire, Curaçao, and Aruba for a day?
We have a cruise planned for next April to the ABC Islands and we’d love to hear your suggestions for sights, beaches, or special shopping spots. We’ve started our research and noticed that Bonaire isn’t highly recommended for beaches because of all the coral (great for diving, though). Thanks in advance!

Fjord cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes
Hi there, we’re planning a trip to Norway next June. Since my partner gets vertigo, renting a car is out of the question. So, we’re thinking of doing the Bergen to Kirkenes route by cruise—6 nights, 7 days—with either Hurtigruten or Havila. Is this journey as amazing as it sounds? Is one provider better than the other?

Basically, any tips would be super helpful.

Thanks.

Which cruise line stops in Barcelona to send a magnet?
Hello everyone, I’m looking for a cruise line that stops in BARCEELONA and can go to the BARCELONA Aquarium to buy a magnet. I bought one for my 9-year-old grandson, but unfortunately, his dad dropped it, and the boy is sad because it was his grandfather’s. So if someone could buy another one, it’s around 4 €, and I’ll cover the shipping costs. I’ve attached a photo of the model. Thank you so much! Best regards, Patrick
