Uluru (Ayers Rock): Do you need a tour operator to visit?
by Oml · 2026-10-05 · 1 reply
Hi, I’m a bit confused about whether you *have* to go through local tour operators for visits to Uluru (especially Sunrise and Sunset) or if it’s possible to do individual visits (with the shuttle buses). Thanks if you can shed some light on this!

trip to the Algarve
by Jofra · 2026-09-27 · 4 replies
Hi, My trip to the Algarve, which was postponed, is now taking shape. On October 13th, I’m leaving for 2 weeks. When I arrive, I’ll be staying in Lisbon for 3 nights. So, I’d love to find somewhere affordable and well-located to stay—any suggestions would be great! After that, I’ll head to Faro, where I plan to rent a car. Would it be best to rent directly from the airport? I can’t seem to find any agencies in Faro city where I could pick up the car and drop it off at the airport at the end of my stay. Is it possible to return a car at 6 AM at the airport? Can I get the Portuguese motorway pass in France? Thanks so much for your help! Jofra
One month in Quebec: any tips for a first itinerary without too much driving?
by Karmat · 2026-09-20 · 11 replies
Hello, I’ve just discovered this forum and I’m looking for your valuable advice. We’re planning to spend a month in Quebec from mid-July to mid-August 2027 with our young adult daughters. Everything looks so beautiful that we’re struggling to decide how to organize our trip beyond our stops in Montreal and Quebec City. We’ll be renting a vehicle to explore the province, but we don’t want to spend our entire vacation racking up kilometers. Do you have any suggestions for an itinerary?

Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Looking for first-hand experiences from adults on language stays in Canada
by Maly0205 · 2026-08-25 · 2 replies
Hi, I’m looking for real first-hand experiences from adults who’ve done a language stay in Canada, specifically in Vancouver or Toronto.

There are so many different schools and reviews that are both negative and positive (how can you tell if they’re genuine?!) that I’d rather hear from real people.

I’m looking for fun courses where you really make progress in speaking and comprehension. + Homestay accommodation: good or bad idea?

I’m 35—this would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me since I’ve dreamed about it since I was 17! I really don’t want to mess this up, especially given how much it costs!
40 days in Argentina and Uruguay: any recommendations?
by Bableux · 2026-08-16 · 6 replies
Hi everyone, We’re planning 40 days in Uruguay and Argentina in February and March, trying to avoid as much rain as possible. We’re thinking of starting in Buenos Aires, then heading to Bariloche, and from there flying to Córdoba, Mendoza, or Salta. Maybe by bus or renting a car to explore each region. Do you have any suggestions or tips for us? We love picturesque, historic cities and landscapes. As seasoned travelers, we’re used to planning our trips ourselves. Thanks in advance!
Retiring in Réunion: where to settle?
by Odetaolma · 2026-08-15 · 8 replies
Hi! I’m 76 and have traveled a lot in my life, and now I’m looking to settle in Réunion.

I’ve seen a retirement community in Saint-Pierre (Ravine des Cabris) and a residence called Village d’Or in Sainte-Clotilde. I have a feeling that living in Saint-Joseph might be better. I’ve submitted both applications and would love your thoughts—also if you know of any friendly small residences for rent, or if you have experience living there.

My pension is 1,460 €.

Thanks so much for your help! Looking forward to hearing from you—warm regards to everyone

I’m arriving in Tana on 9/10/26 as a solo female traveler. Which hotel in Tana is good for the first night since I’ll get in at 10 PM? What’s worth seeing around Tana? I’m planning 2 nights in Tana, then 2 nights in Andasibe? After that, Lake Itasy. Any suggestions? Thanks
Do you need an international driver's permit to rent a car in Australia?
by Croco97232 · 2026-08-02 · 7 replies
Hi everyone, I have to leave for Perth, Australia in a week, for 7 days, and I couldn’t get my international driver’s permit due to processing and delivery delays.

The information I’ve found about whether an international permit is required is contradictory. Some sources say you need one, others say you don’t.

Could anyone let me know if an international driver’s permit is necessary to rent a car in Australia (Perth), or if a French license is enough for a 7-day rental?

Thanks in advance for your advice
Where to go for 2 weeks in Canada during Indian summer?
by Thebigblue · 2026-07-26 · 14 replies
Hi everyone, I’ve got 2 weeks of vacation to take (around Sept 15–Oct 10 max). I’m thinking of Canada since I’ve never been, to see the beautiful fall colors, mix in some sports activities (hiking or others), and a bit of city exploration... Traveling solo, backpacker style (youth hostels), renting a car/van or using buses... (whichever is most cost-effective and practical). Which area would you recommend?

For arrival, I can fly into Montreal, Quebec City, or Toronto at the cheapest fares.

What itinerary (big picture) or activities would you suggest? Or maybe you’d advise against it? ))

Thanks in advance!
Feedback on our first family trip to France itinerary
by Fifine97411 · 2026-07-20 · 29 replies
Hi everyone,

I’m planning our very first trip to mainland France in January 2027. There’ll be 2 adults and 2 kids, and we’ll mostly be traveling by train.

Here’s our itinerary:

Paris Rouen (Normandy) Lyon Aix-les-Bains (with day trips to Annecy and Geneva) Saint-Gervais-les-Bains (with Chamonix and a day in Aosta) Back to Paris

Do you think this itinerary is well-balanced? Any tips, must-see spots, or mistakes to avoid for a first-time visit?

Thanks in advance for your advice! !
Best destinations for a first solo trip?

Hi there! I’m in the middle of planning my first solo trip (as a woman). Do you have any ideal destinations with activities like hiking, diving, sightseeing, and easy ways to meet locals—all on a small budget?

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s had this experience before! :)
How to find out where to see animals while traveling?
by Anthofsy · 2026-04-24 · 8 replies
After taking a little trip around the world, I came back a few months ago with an idea in mind.

I mostly do diving, and I love observing animals in their natural habitat without disturbing them.

During the trip, I realized it was quite complicated to know where and when to see certain species.

For example:

where to dive with sharks or manta rays where you might get a chance to swim with whales

I even discovered thresher sharks during my trip… I didn’t even know this species existed before, even though they’re incredible to see.

We spent a ton of time searching for info all over the place, especially on social media, without ever getting a clear picture.

So I started putting all this together on my own, in the form of a map, to make it easier to visualize where to go depending on the seasons.

I recently put a first version online (it’s called Fauneya). There are probably mistakes, inconsistencies, or things to improve, and that’s partly why I’m posting here.

I’d really love to know how you all go about planning this kind of trip.

Questions about homestays and buses in Réunion during peak tourist season
by Lecoeurestun · 2026-04-08 · 4 replies
hi there

I’m planning to spend about twenty days in Réunion in November. I’d like to get around using the *car jaune* (2 € per ticket), but from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t cover the whole island. I’m not looking to head toward the ocean and the beautiful beaches—more toward the mountainous landscapes, even if I’ll just be admiring them from below. 😉 Maybe other buses go where I want to go. By the way, are there any relatively easy mountain hikes, and where?

But here’s the most important part: I don’t want to book anything in advance because I don’t know what my itinerary will look like—it’ll change depending on my mood. 3 days here, 5 days there, etc. On top of that, I’d like to arrange half-board stays with locals—not professionals—by approaching them and asking if they’d be willing to host me (overnight stay, breakfast, and dinner) for 30 € to 40 € per day.

What do you think? Does the price seem reasonable? And is it okay to take the initiative and ask Réunionnais directly?

The tourist office in Réunion told me that since November is peak tourist season, I should book without delay. 🤪

For four years in a row, I traveled across Canada for a month and a half each time, relying only on hitchhiking and half-board stays with Canadians who welcomed me (and refused to let me pay them).

If I’d listened to my family and friends, I never would’ve taken the leap—and that adventure remains one of the best experiences of my life.

Thanks for your input!
What are the best tips for accommodation, markets, and restaurants in Lisbon?
by Azia35 · 2026-03-31 · 7 replies
Hi everyone,

It’s been ages since I last dropped by here... maybe simply because, apart from Nepal, I haven’t really had the chance to hit the road lately. 😉

This year, I’d love to spend a few days in Lisbon, probably in late May or early June. But with my budget being what it is, I’m looking for great tips to avoid wasting time once I’m there and risk missing out on hidden gems or unusual culinary specialties and/or quirky activities! I’m hoping to find a room in a local’s home where I can stay in a quiet neighborhood near the center, so I can get around without relying too much on public transport—my walking shoes are my best travel buddies. I’d love all your recommendations, especially for parks, small neighborhood markets, casual eateries for a quick bite, your favorite viewpoints to soak in the scenery (I’m bringing my travel journal to sketch my getaway in watercolors), events around traditional art and crafts, and so on. All your advice will definitely help me travel peacefully and come back with my head full of vibrant memories! Thanks in advance, everyone! Isabelle
Combined trip to the two islands: Mauritius and Réunion
by Moongigi · 2026-03-23 · 12 replies
Hi everyone, we’re planning a trip to Réunion for 6 nights and Mauritius for 7 nights in March 2027. I’m starting to look into it now. We’re not hikers, so I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Should we book flights and small hotels separately, or go for a flight-and-stay package? We don’t want to blow our budget (around 2800 € per person). Thanks! Gigi
