Need advice for accommodation in London
by Marsyork · 2026-01-22 · 3 replies
Hi there, it’s been a long time since I last went to London. I’d love to spend a week there in July with my daughter and my niece (both young adults).

Of course, I’m looking for great tips on accommodation, and I’m wondering about renting an apartment. It seems like a better deal to save on restaurants (with the option of having a few meals at home... but is that really the case? I’m not sure about the cost of a meal in a modest restaurant, the pound exchange rate, or grocery prices...). Otherwise, I’d like to stay in accommodation (hotel or apartment) near a tube station and in Zone 1.

If you have any great tips, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks,

India e-visa payment issue
by Marsyork · 2025-12-30 · 2 replies
Hi, I really struggled to fill out the e-visa form. I uploaded my passport and everything correctly, but when it came to payment, it failed three times (on different devices). I'm a bit disheartened and don’t know what to do next. Is using PayPal a better solution?

Thanks for your tips. Marsyork
KERALA - 3 weeks with a Driver - December 2025
by Disederius · 2025-12-14 · 8 replies
For those planning a trip to Kerala, here’s a quick, practical summary. For the most part: the stunning landscapes, the natural kindness of the locals, their cuisine, and their culture—you’ll get to enjoy all of that once you’re there... Flight (arrival and departure to/from Cochin) Avoid Air India and opt for flights via the Middle East: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, etc. Price: between 500 € and 600 € Accommodations Average price: 20 € per night for a couple (max: 40 €, min: 10 €, often including breakfast), via the usual booking sites. Homestays (staying in the owner’s house) are of a higher standard. Only 2 nights were spent in questionable cleanliness. The rest were good, even very good, or even *very* very good. Car with Driver All-inclusive daily price: tolls, fuel, driver’s lodging and meals... and of course, we often shared our meals with our driver too. Toyota sedan (e.g., Corolla) for 4 travelers (1 in front, 3 in the back): 50 € / day, Toyota SUV (e.g., Innova) for up to 6 travelers: 60 € / day DM me if you’d like more details.

Overall budget (excluding flights and shopping) Around 1500 € for 1 couple for the 3 weeks... in "2-couple mode"! (i.e., sharing the driver’s cost). Itinerary

Night 1: Arrival in Cochin in the morning, departure for Attirappily Beautiful waterfalls

Night 2: Thrissur Via Vallachira, not much tourist interest, a stop to ease into the trip and shorten the journey to Wayanad

Nights 3, 4, 5: Wayanad, staying in Sultan Battery Coffee and tea plantations, dam lake, URAVU (bamboo craft workshop), ...

Night 6: Ooty Botanical garden, then a really fun tourist train the next afternoon to Metupalaiyam

Night 7: Toward Coimbatore

Nights 8, 9, 10: Munnar City visit, stunning tea plantations

Nights 11, 12: Thekkady/Kumilly Amazing tea plantations, sightseeing, Jeep ride, not-so-interesting boat tour on Periyar Lake, trekking options

Night 13: Marari Beach (near Alleppey) 4-hour backwaters tour, then beach (swimming, dinner)

Nights 14, 15, 16: Munroe Island Super chill, walks around the island (small coir rope factory), sunrise by boat or canoe, sunset

Night 17: Varkala Gorgeous beaches, shopping

Night 18: Trivandrum City center visit, then train back to Cochin the next day in 3 hours.

Night 19: Cochin Fort Kochi is a lovely way to wrap up the trip

Have a great trip in this incredible region, so unique in India!
Finding a decent flight to Thailand
by Marsyork · 2025-11-17 · 25 replies
struggling to find a decent flight to Thailand?????

Hi everyone, I’ve been traveling in Asia for over 30 years, often to Thailand, but only during the school holidays in February, April, and especially in the summer, departing from Marseille or Lyon.

For some time now, I’ve noticed it’s really hard to find a flight at a reasonable price (under 900 €) and, more importantly, with a decent itinerary (we’re often offered 2 or 3 layovers with total travel times of 40 or even 50 hours), and this is the case almost a year in advance. This is something we never saw even 4 years ago—I’m wondering: are there fewer flights available now...?

Need advice for a trip to Thailand with kids
by Mathniz · 2025-10-29 · 13 replies
Hi everyone,

We’re heading to Thailand with our four kids (ages 18, 17, 12, and 10) from August 3rd to 15th, 2026. I’ve been there twice before, but that was over 20 years ago, so I’m completely out of the loop !

We arrive in Bangkok on the morning of the 3rd and leave on the evening of the 15th.

Here’s our rough itinerary—I’d love your thoughts: 1 night in Bangkok on the 3rd (with a little sightseeing during the day), then the Grand Palace, reclining Buddha, and a floating market on the 4th. On the evening of the 4th, we take an overnight train to Chiang Mai. We’ll stay in Chiang Mai from the 5th to the 8th. On the evening of the 8th, we take an overnight train back to Bangkok. On the morning of the 9th, we head to Koh Samui. We’ll stay there from the 9th to the 12th, then return to Bangkok on the 13th. We’ll spend the afternoon of the 13th, the 14th, and the 15th in Bangkok before flying back to France 🙁.

So here are my questions: - Do you think this "itinerary is doable"? - Do you think it’s necessary to travel first class, or is second class with Air Co sufficient for the Bangkok to Chiang Mai trip? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Chiang Mai? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Bangkok? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Koh Samui?

For hotels, we’d like to spend a maximum of 200 € per night for the six of us.

Thanks in advance for your help! Mathilde
Mysore to Cochin Trip
by Marsyork · 2025-10-10 · 6 replies
Hi there, it's me again with more questions about Kerala!

I'm thinking of making the trip from Mysore to Cochin by private car (with a driver, of course) in one day. I'd love to get an idea of the price and travel time (and if you know a reliable agency).

Alternatively, maybe it's more interesting to do this trip by bus? I'm worried it might take much longer than with a private car. This will be my first trip to South India, and I'm not really sure about travel times or how easy it is to get around by local buses or trains. Thanks!

Info for 2 weeks in Kerala
by Bepohuk · 2025-10-09 · 1 reply
Hi there, I’d love to spend two weeks with my partner in Kerala (arriving and departing from Kochi), and I’m currently looking for info to help build an itinerary. We’re more into hiking/nature and cultural discoveries, staying in youth hostels or simple accommodations. If you’ve got any ideas, I’d love to hear them! Thanks in advance
Visiting the Backwaters from Marari Beach
by Marsyork · 2025-10-03 · 7 replies
Hi there, I’m spending about ten days in Kerala, and of course, I’d love to see the backwaters (I’m open to all possible tips—I don’t want to sleep on a houseboat). My question is:

Is it doable to spend a good half-day in the backwaters while staying at Marari Beach?

Thanks!

Beach stay near Mumbai
by Marsyork · 2025-06-24 · 2 replies
Hi, I'm planning (in February 2026) a two-week trip to Mumbai and the surrounding area, and I'm wondering if it's possible to include a beach stay (very close to Mumbai), but not Goa or Kerala.

If you have any experiences to share on this, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks so much!

Elephant sanctuary in Thailand
by Marsyork · 2024-12-15 · 8 replies
Hi everyone, despite my many trips to Thailand, I’ve never been to an elephant retirement center. This summer, I’m traveling with friends who’d like to spend a few hours with elephants. Obviously, we’re looking for an ethical center (if such a thing exists in Thailand) where the elephants enjoy a peaceful retirement, near Chiang Mai or in Samui if possible. Thanks for your help!
Our one-month family itinerary in Thailand
by DrSnuggle · 2024-10-16 · 10 replies
Hi there,

We’re planning a little month-long trip to Thailand in July-August with our family (2 adults and 2 kids aged 12 and 15). Below is our tentative itinerary with our main activities—I’d love to hear your thoughts or feedback if there’s a major issue I’ve missed!

Bangkok: 6 nights to "acclimate" and explore the city and Ayutthaya Transfer to Kanchanaburi: 3 nights to discover the area (Bridge, Death Railway, Erawan, and Huai Mae Khamin) Transfer to Kaeng Krachan National Park: 3 nights, full-day visit to the park Transfer to San Roi Yot: 5 nights (Park, Kui Buri, beach) Back to Bangkok, then flight to Chiang Rai: 3 nights (city and surroundings) Transfer to Chiang Mai: 5 nights (city and nearby parks) Return to Bangkok: 2 nights before our flight home

Happy to provide any details!
Activities around Ayutthaya and Wat Muang?
by Marsyork · 2024-10-10 · 6 replies
Hi everyone, During my upcoming trip to Thailand in summer 2025, due to organizational reasons, I’ll be staying in Ayutthaya for 3 days. On the last day, I’m thinking of visiting Wat Muang and doing something else nearby—but what? That’s the point of this post... What can I do around Ayutthaya or near Wat Muang?

Thanks for your suggestions!

by Laforgel · 2020-07-10 · 18 replies

by Annachris · 2020-07-06 · 29 replies
Bonjour,

by Johanvdh · 2020-06-23 · 12 replies
Bonjour,

by Marifb · 2020-05-29 · 52 replies

by Autechre · 2020-04-29 · 39 replies
