MSC ORCHESTRA Cruise Review
by 4yne · 2026-08-22 · 1 reply
Hi Guylène,

Thanks for this lovely review of your cruise comeback.

The issue of towels being placed early in the morning to reserve sun loungers has now spread to hotels. A report even covered this in hotels in Spain and on beaches!

Extreme heat can indeed ruin some port stops when it’s overwhelming—we experienced this ourselves in June 2022 in the Adriatic Sea.

A gift as an apology is always a nice touch. It’s a great practice that helps you forget the incident and only remember the kind gesture.
Cruise and Northern Lights in January/February 2027

Hi Georges,

Great question.

There’s Havila Voyages, which sails the same coastal route from Bergen to Kirkenes as the Coastal Express, but with newer ships.

Hurtigruten also offers the North Cape Line, which is different from the classic Coastal Express.
Danube Drought: Cruise Modifications with Bus Trips
by 4yne · 2026-08-14 · 0 replies
This happened a few years ago to a couple I know. They were living on the boat and doing excursions by coach, sometimes with long bus rides. It had nothing to do with a cruise anymore.

This seems like a major change to your itinerary. On top of the general terms and conditions, check with your legal support to know your rights and what you can do.

Review of cruise on the Renaissance from August 1-11, 2026
by 4yne · 2026-08-12 · 9 replies
Hi Frédéric,

Like Poupou, I really want to thank you for this review. Too few people take the time to share their experience and impressions after their cruise. It’s a real shame. You got a good deal and were lucky not to have too many issues in your cabin—this poor ship is really poorly maintained. Port spots near city centers are more expensive for cruise lines, and that’s one of the first areas where they cut costs. Even with Oceania Cruise, we had this issue in Alaska.

Hi Nathalie,

If you rent a car in Reykjavik, that’s awesome—it’s the best solution. In 2023, we rented a car in Reykjavik for 24 hours over two days. We’d already seen the most famous sites (Golden Circle, etc.). On the first day, we explored the Reykjanes Peninsula and Grindavik (now covered in lava), where we had the best fish and chips of our lives. We drove around the whole peninsula—there’s so much to see.

The next morning, we left the ship at 5 AM for the Reykjadalur Valley. We hiked to the river super early, and the best part was that there was almost no one there at that hour—it’s a magical memory. Just be careful: even that early, you still have to pay for parking at the machines.

Excursions from Reykjavik: Golden Tour, Ice Cave

Hi Ally,

In Reykjavik, local tour operators know how cruise excursions work, and they’ll pick you up right from the ship. At least, that’s how it was in 2018—I can’t believe it’s been that long! Maybe double-check, or if someone can confirm?

Hi Guylène,

What corporate jargon! The wording is laughable (but totally in line with what little I’ve seen of this company), and the compensation is pretty measly considering all the hassles you’ve had to deal with. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that next time everything goes smoothly for you.

Hi Guylène,

I share your opinion—getting older makes everything more complicated and intimidating. Indeed, those repairs could have waited until the next day. I think they protected themselves by making you change cabins the night before disembarkation. Not very nice.

Fingers crossed for your next cruise. Maybe everything will go smoothly—just look at Nathalie’s experience, even though she wasn’t feeling confident at first. 😉

Hello Guylène, Thank you for this report. Even if everything wasn’t perfect, it seems the cruise went well overall and you’re satisfied with it, which is what matters most.

Both involve a lot of sailing through the fjords. It seems to me that the North Cape is more interesting in June.

Also note that at the end of August you won’t get the midnight sun—it only lasts until around the third week of July if I remember correctly.

Hi Nathalie,

For a cruise at the end of August, I’d pick the southernmost one and save the other for another time at the start of the season, when the snow and ice haven’t melted yet and all the spring flowers are in bloom.
Are you familiar with the Yacht Club on the MSC Magnifica?
by 4yne · 2026-06-09 · 0 replies
Hi Claudine,

“Very spread out”—that’s exactly how I felt about the YC on this ship. A cabin that’s not in the YC sanctuary is a shame for the atmosphere and the cozy vibe. I wouldn’t like that either.

Also worth noting: the Butcher is only open in the evening and is located all the way at the back of the ship, past the cafeteria.

A world cruise in the YC shouldn’t be too bad. 😉 I’ll check out the budget just out of curiosity. 😏

Best regards,
