Starting a trip in southern Brazil (without Iguaçu): is it worth it?
Thanks a lot, I’ll keep that in mind.
You’re welcome. And no, not necessarily! The thing is, in the south and southeast, December to February is a hot and fairly humid period, with occasional heavy storms and several days of rain. But that doesn’t mean it rains nonstop as soon as you leave the coast. In the Northeast, especially around Bahia and further north, you can also have great conditions at that time. Chapada Diamantina might be trickier for hikes because of the rain, but it’s not necessarily off the table. You should really pick regions based on seasonal weather rather than systematically opposing the coast and the interior.

Thanks so much for the reply—I’ll think about it. I’ll get back to you if I need more info. So, further inland, it’s non-stop rain, right?
Starting a trip in southern Brazil (without Iguaçu): is it worth it?
Hi everyone, I was wondering—I’m planning to go to Brazil on December 25th (until around mid-February) and land in São Paulo or Rio (since those are the only two southern destinations you can fly into from Europe). I’d maybe like to start in the south of the country—is it worth going there? If so, where should I begin: Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, or somewhere else before heading north?
Okay, I saw Iguaçu Falls in January 2024, so I’m skipping that stop during my trip. What route would you recommend to see the best destinations? I’m skipping the Amazon because of the rain—I only want to stay in dry, sunny regions.
Thanks! !

From Nicaragua to Honduras and El Salvador: Where to Cross the Borders?
Hi there, after my trip to Nicaragua in January, I’m planning to visit Honduras and El Salvador during the same journey. Can anyone tell me where to cross the border from Nicaragua to Honduras by bus? Is it doable? Safe? And most importantly, what’s a good route to take and what’s worth seeing in Honduras in a safe way?
Is it better to travel with a group (through an agency) or is solo travel no problem?
P.S.: And for El Salvador, same question—what’s a good route and what’s generally worth seeing? Is it better to start in the south (El Salvador) and then head north to Honduras before continuing to Guatemala, or...?
Thanks for the tips!

Back from 1 month in Nicaragua
Hi there, what budget-friendly (bus) itinerary would you recommend for January, and what should I see—main cities, nature, etc.? The most important things, from the Costa Rican border to Honduras. Thanks!
P.S. I’m also planning to visit El Salvador.
Closest city to the border to buy an onward ticket for Panama
Thanks.
Closest city to the border for buying an onward ticket to Panama
Hi everyone, I’m planning to go to Panama in December and I’d like to know which city is closest to the Panama-Costa Rica border—and just across the border in Costa Rica—to buy the cheapest bus ticket? Just so I have proof of onward travel when I take my flight, thanks.
